WoW Midnight Mythic+ Season 2: affixes by keystone level and reward item level (patch 12.1)
In brief
Midnight's Mythic+ Season 2 kicks off on August 19 with eight dungeons and a progressive affix system climbing up to +12. Rewards cap at 318 at +10 in the Great Vault, while titles, mounts, and portals are chased well beyond that.
Patch 12.1 “Ula'tek's Curse” arrives on Wednesday, August 12 in Europe, but Mythic+ Season 2 doesn't start that day: it opens a week later, on August 19. In between, the new rotation is already playable on Heroic and Mythic 0, without keys and without rating.
The core of this Season 2 isn't in the list of eight dungeons but in how difficulty and rewards stack up. Affixes are added in very clear tiers, and item level gains stop early: a +10 cleared within time yields exactly the same loot as a +12, namely 311 in the end-of-dungeon chest and 318 in the Great Vault. Everything above that is about rating, titles, and mounts.
Two openings, not one: August 12 then August 19
Blizzard's official article clearly separates the two unlock waves.
- Week of August 12: new dungeon the Altar of Hooks, Midnight dungeons on Heroic and Mythic 0, new rotation of eight dungeons, Delves Season 2 on Normal and Hard, Season 2 Delves (without Bountiful Delves), arena training grounds, and the start of Great Vault progression.
- Week of August 19: Mythic+ Season 2, Season 2 gear in the Great Vault, the Venomous Abyss raid, PvP Season 2, Bountiful Delves and keys, Nightmare mode, and “Curse of the Isle” on the Delves side.
Mythic 0 hands out item level 292 gear, that is, the very first step of the Season 2 Champion track. It's the foundation to build up before touching a key. One caveat: the French page contradicts itself on the reset cadence, “every week” in the August 12 section, “every day” in the August 19 one. Until this is settled in-game, don't build your schedule around it.
Five Midnight dungeons, three returning ones
- the Altar of Hooks (new, located in Zul'Aman)
- Murder Row
- Nalorakk's Lair
- Bloodmyst... Blinding Hollow
- the Void Scar Arena
- the Underrot... Rise of the Kings (Battle for Azeroth)
- the Temple of Sethraliss (Battle for Azeroth)
- the Ruby Life Pools (Dragonflight)
A quick terminology note: Blizzard's French page, like several French-speaking outlets, writes “Temple of Sephraliss.” That's a typo, the Battle for Azeroth dungeon is indeed called the Temple of Sethraliss in the English client.
The three dungeons brought back from older expansions are the real wildcard at launch: groups discovering them will mostly lose time on routes and interrupts. The week of August 12 is made for exactly that, with no timer running.
Affixes, tier by tier
Season 2 ramps up in steps: each tier removes a helping hand or adds a constraint.
| Key Level | What Changes |
|---|---|
| +2 | Lindormi's Guidance appears: some of the non-boss monsters are highlighted with reduced health and damage, killing them is enough to fill the Enemy Forces, and deaths don't eat into the timer. |
| +5 | The Xal'atath's Bargain affix rotation begins. |
| +6 | Lindormi's Guidance disappears: you're on your own for routing, and death penalties return. |
| +7 | Rotation between Fortified and Tyrannical begins. |
| +10 | Fortified and Tyrannical are active at the same time. |
| +12 and above | Xal'atath's Guile replaces the Bargain: each death removes 15 seconds from the timer. |
Two terminology clarifications. Xal'atath's Bargain and Xal'atath's Guile are indeed the official English labels, carried over from The War Within. On the other hand, Lindormi's Guidance has no other published name to date: the reference gaming press keeps it as is, and we do the same. If you come across a different rendering somewhere, that's an unofficial translation, not a label from the client.
One last caveat: the recap articles don't agree on the exact tier where the Bargain rotation starts, with some placing it as early as +4. The table above reflects the test realms — check your key's tooltip on the morning of the 19th.
Which key level for which item level
This is the part that decides your typical week. The end-of-dungeon chest only gives a single item; the Great Vault offers up to three more, depending on the keys completed during the week.
| Key | End-of-dungeon chest | Great Vault | Mist crest |
|---|---|---|---|
| +2 and +3 | 295 (Champion 2/6) | 305 (Hero 1/6) | Champion |
| +4 | 298 (Champion 3/6) | 308 (Hero 2/6) | Heroic |
| +5 | 302 (Champion 4/6) | 308 (Hero 2/6) | Heroic |
| +6 | 305 (Hero 1/6) | 311 (Hero 3/6) | Heroic |
| +7 | 305 (Hero 1/6) | 315 (Hero 4/6) | Heroic |
| +8 and +9 | 308 (Hero 2/6) | 315 (Hero 4/6) | Heroic |
| +10 and above | 311 (Hero 3/6) | 318 (Mythic 1/6) | Mythic |
Three useful takeaways from this table. First, +7 is the best effort-to-loot ratio in the first half of the season: it's the first tier that locks in 315 in the Vault, and it's still played without the Fortified plus Tyrannical stacking. Next, +10 is the season's real benchmark: 318 in the Vault, Mythic mist crests, and teleportation portals. Finally, anything above +10 no longer grants an additional item level point — it's a race for score, not for gear.
Something to keep in mind when weighing your playtime: Season 2's cap sits at 344, only reachable on the last two bosses of the Mythic raid. Mythic+ alone, no matter how high you push it, stops at 318 on the Vault side.
What Blizzard changed in the mode itself
Beyond the rotation, Season 2 also tweaks the readability of the mode, and these changes matter just as much as the affixes.
- Increased creature health pools: enough to force target prioritization, rather than letting all the pressure fall on the tank and healer in the first few seconds of a pull.
- Enhanced tooltips: every monster now shows its contribution to the Enemy Forces counter. No more rough guesses when you're missing three percent.
- Revised visual effects for cone and line spells, whose impact zones are now easier to read.
- Weak points fixed dungeon by dungeon: shortened role-play sequences, and boss mechanics adjusted where difficulty was poorly balanced.
Mounts, titles, and portals: what's really at stake at the top

- 1,500 rating: the title "the Venomous."
- 2,000 rating: the Canker's Breath mount.
- 3,000 rating: the Ruin's Breath mount.
- Midnight Mythic Saga: Season 2: the title "the Venomous Fighter." The required rating isn't listed on the French page; outlets are floating 3,400, to be confirmed.
- Venomous Championship: finish the season in the top one percent of your region.
- Venomous Heroism: top one-thousandth of the region, title "the Venomous Hero."
- Portals: one per dungeon, unlocked by clearing all eight on Mythic level 10 within the time limit.
Beware of a confusion that's already spreading: several roundups attribute the title "the Venomous Fighter" to the 1,500 tier. On the official French page, 1,500 grants "the Venomous," and "the Venomous Fighter" is tied to the Saga achievement. If you're chasing a specific title, trust the achievements tab in-game rather than recopied tables.
The week of August 12, a user's guide
- Clear all eight dungeons on Mythic 0 for 292 gear: that's the floor that will keep you from being the weak link in the first keys of the 19th.
- Learn the Altar of Hooks on Normal and then Heroic. The dungeon opens with a long trash phase, with five totems to destroy before the first boss, and poison is everywhere: the puddles on the ground drain health fast. The three bosses are Rav'i, the Undulating Ophidian, and Zul'jan.
- Run back through the Rest of Kings, the Temple of Sethraliss, and the Ruby Life Pools while no timer is running.
- Plan ahead for the currency change: Season 2 switches to Mist Coins (Veteran, Champion, Heroic, Mythic). These are what will fuel your upgrades starting on the 19th.
- The Great Vault starts tracking your progress from the 12th, but won't hand out Season 2 gear until the 19th. Blizzard hasn't said more than that: don't read anything further into it.
The early meta, with all the caveats that entails
Tests conducted on public test realms in mid-July give a first snapshot, relayed on the French-speaking side based on Petko's tier list. Among tanks, Protection Paladin stands out clearly, boosted by a revamp of its talents that gives it resilience, damage, and a very complete toolkit all at once; Protection Warrior follows, while Guardian Druid falls back, its survivability remaining excellent but its damage having dropped noticeably.
On the damage side, no specialization dominates, but a pack is taking shape with Arms Warrior, Arcane Mage, Elemental Shaman, Balance Druid, Shadow Priest, Frost Death Knight, and Enhancement Shaman. Arcane Mage is the good surprise after a difficult Season 1. All three Rogue specializations, on the other hand, are struggling, with Subtlety leading the pack. For healing, Mistweaver Monk keeps the edge but sees Discipline Priest coming back, very offensive for a healer, with mana consumption as its weak point; Restoration Shaman and Preservation Evoker remain well placed. A test snapshot, then: a pre-season tier list commits no one.
The most profitable plan
If you should only remember one course of action: use the week of the 12th for free gear and learning the routes, open Season 2 on the 19th by aiming quickly for +7 rather than grinding comfortable +2s, then stabilize at +10 for portals and the vault at 318. The rest is just ranking. And keep an eye on balance tweaks: time limits and pack health are always the first values to shift after a season opens.
