In brief

The August 27, 2026 patches transform Vashnik the Malevolent by reducing his healing nullification from 100% to 80% in Raid Finder — a change that explains why previous attempts hit an impassable wall. Blizzard also fixes two blocking bosses (Zul'jan and Ula'tek) and restores Blur's integrity for demon hunters in PvE.

Blizzard released a fresh round of patches for World of Warcraft: Midnight on Thursday, August 27, 2026. It contains one line that amounts to a confession: on Raid Finder difficulty, Vashnik the Malignant was simply cancelling out 100% of the healing received by the raid. It's now 80%.

The first boss of the Venomous Abyss alone receives five adjustments, all concentrated on the two most accessible difficulties. Here's what's changing, and why the past few weeks' attempts weren't just badly played.

Vashnik the Malignant: five lines, a different fight

ChangeDifficulty
Siphoning Infection damage reduced by 33%Raid Finder
Siphon Blood damage reduced by 33%Raid Finder
Healing reduction brought down to 80% (from 100%)Raid Finder
Siphoning Infection healing increased by 500%Raid Finder
Siphoning Infection healing increased by 10%Normal

The third line is the one that explains the other four. A 100% healing reduction is a wall: whatever the healer does, the health bar doesn't move. The fight therefore came down purely to raw survival and to the window during which the effect fell off. At 80%, a heal drops to a fifth of its value — that's not much, but it's no longer zero, and it entirely changes how you time your healing cooldowns.

The +500% jump to Siphoning Infection healing in Raid Finder points in the same direction: what the spell returned to the raid was, until now, negligible. Normal mode receives the same fix, but dialed down to +10% — a sign that Blizzard considers it was working reasonably well there.

What this means in practice: if your group was getting stuck on Vashnik in Raid Finder, it wasn't a composition issue. Try again.

Two bosses are killable again

Two fixes put an end to situations where a fight could become impossible to finish.

Zul'jan at 1 hit point

Bringing Zul'jan down to 1 hit point at the end of the intermission would then prevent him from being killable in phase 3. A group that pushed hard at the end of the intermission was therefore dooming itself — the best execution produced the worst outcome. This is fixed.

The Paladin's Holy Hammer wasn't hitting Ula'tek's Venomous Heart

On the Protection Paladin side, Holy Hammer couldn't hit Ula'tek's venomous heart. On a boss whose key phase consists precisely of hitting that heart, this amounted to depriving the spec of its main damage source at the worst possible moment. Also fixed.

The class fix affecting the most people: Blur outside PvP

The first entry in the Classes section is a repair, not a balance change:

"Fixed an issue that allowed recent PvP adjustments to Blur to also affect PvE situations. The damage reduction from Blur outside of PvP has been restored to its intended values."

In other words, a Vengeance or Devastation demon hunter was taking less damage mitigation than they should have everywhere — dungeons, raids, open world — because of a setting that was only supposed to affect arenas and battlegrounds. If your defenses have felt weak since the last PvP adjustment, that wasn't just an impression.

Other class fixes

  • Evoker, Flameshaper: the tooltip for Lifecinders incorrectly stated that it required Renewing Blaze. A text error, not a behavior issue.
  • Evoker, Preservation: Emerald Communion kept looping its visual effect after the ability had ended.
  • Rogue, Deathstalker: the Deathstalker's mark would disappear when the target became untargetable. It now grants Darkest Night when removed from an untargetable target — a net gain on fights with invulnerability phases.
  • Warlock, Destruction: Mayhem would sometimes stop being tracked when refreshed while already active.

The rest, in brief

  • Delves: Mislaid Curiosities weren't appearing in the Eggsplosive Growth variant of Nightrune.
  • Sephraliss's Temple: the Mythic+ affix creature Voidbound Emissary could cause Galvazzt to disappear, taking the loot with it.
  • The Twin Hooks: the ground indicators for Caustic Globule and Barbed Bulwark could vanish before impact — making a dangerous area look safe when it wasn't.
  • Items: the Contract: Zul'jarra's Forces wasn't applying to your whole party. And the poison tornado from Sszorak's Ferocity - The Tempest is now only visible to the trinket's wearer, and at a reduced size — one less visual nuisance for the rest of the raid.
  • Mounts: several writhe mounts have been enlarged to stay consistent with each other.
  • PvP: progress toward the next vicious saddle wasn't being tracked. If it felt like you weren't making progress, you weren't.

A note on the localised hotfix pages

Blizzard publishes its hotfixes as a single article that it updates throughout the week, and only the English version keeps up. As we write this, the English page is titled « Hotfixes: August 27, 2026 » and contains every entry above, while the French (« Correctifs : 21 août 2026 »), German (« Hotfixes: 21. August 2026 ») and Spanish (« Correcciones en vivo del 21 de agosto de 2026 ») versions of the same article all stop at the previous week's fixes.

Players on a localised client will therefore not find these entries in their own language yet, and some of the spells named above — Siphoning Infection, Siphon Blood, Blur, Lifecinders, Mayhem — have no published localised label at all. They will appear as soon as Blizzard updates the translated pages.

Key takeaways

  • Vashnik the Malignant is noticeably more manageable in Raid Finder: two spells reduced by -33%, healing reduction lowered from 100% to 80%, Siphoning Infection healing multiplied by six.
  • Zul'jan and Ula'tek's Venomous Heart can no longer soft-lock an encounter.
  • Blur returns to its PvE values for Demon Hunters.
  • Blizzard’s localised hotfix pages — French, German and Spanish — are a week behind the English one.

Frequently asked questions

Why was Vashnik truly unbeatable in Raid Finder?
At 100% healing reduction, no heal landed, no matter how much you had. The fight came down purely to raw survival and the windows when the effect dropped. Bringing that number down to 80% — where a heal retains a fifth of its power — completely changes the strategy and makes healing cooldowns relevant again.
Was Blur really broken for demon hunters in dungeons?
Yes. A PvP adjustment designed solely for arena was also applying in PvE, reducing demon hunters' defense everywhere. It was a bug, not intentional balancing — it's now fixed.
What was preventing players from finishing Zul'jan if they pushed too hard at the end of the intermission?
Bringing him to exactly 1 hit point made him unkillable in phase 3. A group that executed perfectly would end up blocking itself — the best execution produced the worst outcome. This has been fixed.
Could Protection Paladins really not hit Ula'tek's heart?
Hammer of Wrath, their main damage source, wasn't hitting the venomous heart. On a boss whose entire key phase revolves around breaking that heart, this was a real problem. It's fixed now.
Why is the French patch notes page a week behind?
Blizzard publishes patch notes live on the English page and updates the French one throughout the week. At the time of this article, the French version stopped at the August 21 patches while the English version was up to date as of the 27th.

Key takeaways

  • At 80% healing reduction instead of 100%, Vashnik becomes killable — every heal now counts, even if only a fifth of its value
  • Siphoning Infection's healing jumps by +500% in Raid Finder, turning a previously overlooked mechanic into a strategic lever
  • Two fights that could become impossible to finish are finally fixed: Zul'jan at 1 HP and the paladin's Hammer of Wrath on Ula'tek
  • Blur will no longer require groups to fight in a closed box: its PvP tuning no longer affects PvE, and demon hunters get their defense back
  • If your group was stuck on this raid in Raid Finder, it wasn't a matter of composition or execution — the boss was broken
