The Blood of Dawnwalker Healing: how to heal by day and by night
In brief
The Blood of Dawnwalker imposes a radical duality in your healing: during the day, Coen heals with potions, food, and Sorcery; at night, he loses all access to these resources and must feed on blood via Ravenous Bite and Vampirism. Mastering these two parallel systems is essential to survive.
In The Blood of Dawnwalker, knowing how to heal Coen is essential. As a Dawnwalker, what heals him during the day has nothing to do with what heals him at night. And potion and ointment recipes aren't available from the start: you have to unlock them and gather the ingredients needed to craft them. Here are all the methods at your disposal.
Healing during the day
During the day, Coen can eat, drink potions, wear healing armor, or invest in Witchcraft to boost his recovery.
Potions and ointments
Potions provide instant healing, while ointments offer regeneration over time. You craft them in the crafting menu once their recipes have been found and read - recipes obtained at random from loot or bought from certain merchants.
Remember to assign your healing items to quick slots (Consumables tab) before entering combat. On Fair, Hard, and Duelist difficulty, food and potions are only consumed in combat if they've been assigned beforehand - a setting that can be changed in the Gameplay tab of the pause menu.
Food
Food regenerates health over time. Outside of combat, an apple or a berry is enough to fill the entire health bar; in combat, recovery is much slower and not very effective.
Armor passives
Armor and accessories can carry the "+% human health restoration" stat, which improves healing items.

The 5 Witchcraft skills
- Frugal Witchcraft: defeating an enemy with a Witchcraft ability restores health based on its casting cost (40% / 80% / 120%).
- Soul Harvest : drains a target's life over time and keeps it at a distance (85 to 132 HP/s).
- Unholy Vitality : regenerates health after using active abilities (10 to 25%).
- Herbal Remedies II : additional instant healing on all consumables (5% / 10% / 15%).
- Fountain of Life : regenerates health outside of combat (via the Stronger than Achilles quest).
Healing at night
At night, Coen loses access to all potions, food, Witchcraft skills, and armor tied to human health. Instead, he can drain blood from animals and humans, and rely on Vampirism.
Ravenous Bite
Ravenous Bite is his main ability for draining life at night. Available from the end of the prologue onward, it can be used in two ways:
- In combat: active ability costing 1 activation charge (30-second cooldown).
- Out of combat: innate ability, usable at will on any target within range (animals, humans).
Its healing improves with the Nourishing Blood skill. Watch out: targeting an aggressive human or animal (wolf, boar) surrounded by allies will interrupt your bite almost immediately, and instantly triggers combat.

Blood Vials
Two main types of blood vials heal Coen at night:
- Animal Blood Vial: random loot from large animals (deer, wolves, boars). Restores 50% of a vampiric health segment.
- Human Blood Vial: loot from human enemies. Restores 100% of a segment.
Vials can be converted into Blood Infusions through crafting (recipe required): they heal just as much, but add bonuses such as extra maximum health. Certain quests related to Brencis and his boyars give Vrakhir Blood Vials (Ambrus, Bakir, Xanthe, Brencis), which grant a large amount of Corruption and unlock exclusive abilities. Finally, rare items such as blood leeches also heal, but are limited and cannot be farmed.
Armor and Vampirism Skills
Some armor pieces carry "+% vampiric health segment regeneration" or "+% restoration from blood absorption". On the skill side, five Vampirism skills enhance healing:
- Nourishing Blood: blood absorption restores more health (+10 / +20 / +40%).
- Closed Wounds: slowly regenerates the vampiric health of the current segment.
- Blood Theft: attacking restores recently lost vampiric health.
- Scarlet Shield: chance of regeneration after a Perfect Riposte.
- Renounce Death (to be confirmed): grants life steal on attack and immortality once per combat, instead of dying.
