The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Sell Silver

You've got Silver in your pockets and nobody wants to buy it from you? Normal. In The Blood of Dawnwalker, this trade is illegal in Vale Sangora, and the merchant who deals in it doesn't do business with just anyone. You first need to earn his trust, or find a way to force his hand.

The merchant in question, the Silver Merchant, is located in Svartrau City. But just going there isn't enough: if you approach him without being invited, he'll flatly refuse to do business with Coen. There are two ways to unlock this trade.

Method 1: Raise Infamy to level 4

The first option is to raise your Infamy level to level 4. At this point, Brencis publicly declares Coen an outlaw and calls him by name. As a result, the Silver Merchant recognizes him and finally agrees to trade with him.

To raise Infamy quickly, you need to strike directly at Brencis's forces:

• Attack Brencis's soldiers
• Raze or loot his camps
• Take his outposts

The Court menu serves as a map to locate Brencis, his three vassals, and the territories each one controls. Chain together the quests that lead you to these camps, and Infamy climbs quickly. It's the most direct method, but it comes at a cost: your reputation takes a hit, with all the in-game consequences that entails.

Method 2: The Letter with a tip

If you'd rather stay discreet and keep your Infamy low, there's an alternative: the Letter with a tip, obtained through the quest In the Den. This quest is accessible right from the Prologue, or later if you missed it.

Once the quest is complete, search the hole it points to in order to retrieve the letter. This leads directly to the Silver Merchant of Svartrau City. With this document in hand, Coen can confront the merchant, who then no longer really has a choice: he must agree to trade, without you needing to touch your reputation.

Honestly, if you're not planning to play the full outlaw route, this is clearly the better of the two options.

Keeping Silver isn't just about selling it

A small detail that matters: Silver isn't only meant to be sold. In certain quests, having it on you opens up alternative solutions. This is the case in a quest where offering Silver to the butcher lets you completely skip the infiltration phase in Andrei's hideout - he leads you straight there instead.

Hence the value of always keeping one or two Silver items on you, rather than liquidating everything as soon as possible. It saves you from having to chase down this resource the moment a quest needs it, and gives you a handy workaround option when classic stealth isn't your thing.
