WoW Midnight: Griftah's Token of Appreciation & Endeavor Traders

Curse of Ula'tek kicked off Season 2 of World of Warcraft: Midnight, and with it a part of the housing system that few players have explored: neighborhood Endeavors. Four groups of visitors take turns settling in your neighborhood, each with its own tasks, its own vendor, and its own catalog of items to buy.

Blizzard has published the full details. Here's what you need to know so you don't spend at random.

How it works: only one Endeavor to start with

The system isn't open right from the start. Blizzard puts it this way:

“The Knock-off Amani Endeavor will be available as soon as Curse of Ula'tek launches and is part of the activities available on the Coiled Isle. Once it's complete, you'll be able to choose from a whole range of Endeavors as new visitors come to discover your neighborhood.”

In other words: the Amani Endeavor is imposed first, and completing it is what unlocks the choice. No point looking for the Tortollans before you're done with Griftah.

Each Endeavor progresses through stages, and each stage cleared unlocks new items for purchase from the relevant vendor. Two Endeavors also open a direct portal from the neighborhood while they're active — the Amani one to the Coiled Isle, and the kobolds' one to the Ringing Deeps.

Two currencies, and only one is new

Blizzard doesn't hide the nature of Griftah's market: the token of esteem is exchanged “for fabulous prizes (or not)”. The only item it explicitly buys is the Bag of Totally Legitimate Amani Goods, for 1 Token of Appreciation — “an assortment of supposedly Amani items”.

Initiative 1 — Amani Trolls: Knock-off Amani

Vendor: Griftah. A troupe of traveling merchants comes to sell off its “traditional Amani merchandise”, whose own description states that “it seems clear these aren't genuine Amani items”.

The catalog opens in tiers:

• From the start — Steamy Romance Tablet (10 Community Coupons), Amani Building Peg (2 coupons), Forest Troll Fence (15 coupons), Forest Troll Fencepost.
• First Endeavor milestone — Amani Road Marker, Woven Forest Troll Rug, Amani Wicker Crate.
• Second Endeavor milestone — Amani Anvil, Amani Decorative Plinth (20 coupons).
• Third Endeavor milestone — Amani Water Well, Witch Doctor's Punch Bowl, then the four loa shrines at 30 Community Coupons: Shrine of Halazzi, Loa of the Hunt, Shrine of Akil'zon, Loa of Victory, Shrine of Nalorakk, Loa of War and Shrine of Jan'alai, Loa of Fire.

The four shrines are the priciest pieces of the bunch, and they come the latest. If you're going for the Amani-themed decor, save your vouchers for the third stage rather than burning them on fences.

Initiative 2 — Ohn'ahran Plains Centaur: the Centaurs' Best Friend

Vendor: Roshai Lightstep. The pretext is training: "the neighborhood residents love their pets, but they need help training them," and the Maruuk of the Ohn'ahran Plains agree to share their tips for their bakars.

This is the Endeavor with the deepest catalog of outdoor furniture and pet-related items: Wide Maruukai Barricade, Maruukai Barricade, Tapered Maruukai Barricade, Maruukai Wooden Table, Maruukai Feast Table, Maruukai Chef's Stove, Maruukai Storage Basket (5 Community Coupons) and its open version, Ornate Khanam's Rug and its large format, Bakar's Napping Rug, Bakar's Snack, Bakar's Dinner, Bakar's Favorite Ball.

The final step separately unlocks the Pet Food and Water Tray: this is the only completion reward for this Endeavor, and it's also the most functional item of the bunch.

Initiative 3 — Kobolds: the Candle Craft

Vendor: Timicky. Wax deposits appear in the neighborhood; the Kobolds of the Resounding Rift come to teach lighting techniques. A direct portal to the Resounding Rift remains open as long as the Endeavor is active.

The catalogue is structured around a growing range of candles:

• Furniture — Kobold Sit-Thing, Kobold Dig-Thing, Cozy Kobold Crate, Bold Kobold Kabin, Hot Kobold Treasure (25 Community Coupons), Candle Cage.
• Lighting — Small Warrens Candle, Medium Warrens Candle, Large Warrens Candle, Longwick Rope and its Droopy and Hanging variants.
• Fourth Endeavor milestone — Large Threedium Warrens Candle, Highlighting High Light, Warrens Candlecooker.
• Separate condition — the Color-Curious Candle can only be purchased if "your neighborhood must demonstrate its mastery of the art of candles." This is the only item in the lot conditioned on a collective neighborhood performance, rather than your personal progress.

Initiative 4 — Tortollans: Vacation Time

Vendor: Taifa. The tortollans “need no introduction to your neighborhood — they've been vacationing here long before you put down your roots.” Theirs is the most travel-minded catalog of the four, and it runs to fourteen pieces: Tortollan Traveler's Tincture, Half-Shell Hot Pot, Protected Tortollan Scroll Case, Tortollan Traveler's Chest, Sealeather Sack, Tortollan Tarp Tent, Empty Tortollan Display Rack, Mason's Tortollan Display Rack, Apothecary's Tortollan Display Rack, Collector's Tortollan Display Rack, Compact Cookfire, Sea Glass Lamp Post, Sea Glass Bauble and Ancient Memories of the Sea.

What to Remember Before Spending

1. Finish the cheap Amani first: this is what unlocks the choice between the other Endeavors.
2. Griftah's Tokens of Appreciation depend on the difficulty of the tasks. Easy tasks yield less: it's the only lever for speeding up this currency.
3. Save your Community Coupons for the later stages. The loa shrines costing 30 vouchers and the large candles only appear in the third and fourth stages.
4. The Color-Curious Candle is not within your reach alone: it waits for the neighborhood as a whole to have proven itself.
