WoW Midnight: the Northrend Cup closes on September 8 — the 12 courses and the single tier that unlocks the title, the tabard and the achievement
In brief
The Northrend Cup closes on September 8 after only two weeks. Only one tier really matters: getting gold on all twelve dynamic flying courses unlocks the Northrend Pilot title, an achievement, and a tabard all at once. The event remains accessible to everyone, with no gear or mount prerequisites, making it the best reward-to-time-invested ratio of the period.
The Northrend Cup returned on Tuesday, August 25, and Blizzard has set its closing date for September 8. Two weeks, not a day more, to go grab a title, a tabard, and an achievement that will then go back on the shelf.
The event is short but easy to read: twelve dynamic flight courses over Northrend, a dedicated currency, and only one tier that matters. On the other hand, Blizzard remains vague on three points that nonetheless determine your schedule.
Where to start, and with which mount
There's a single entry point: Lord Andestrasz, at the Transformation Stage in Valdrakken, on the Dragon Isles. He gives the initial quest. The announcement states that the event "begins in Valdrakken, Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and Northrend": the capitals are indeed involved, but the initial quest is picked up from Andestrasz.
As for mounts, there's no barrier to entry. Races are flown with any of the original Dragonflight dynamic flying mounts. If you don't have one — as would be the case for an account that returned for Midnight without having touched Dragonflight — Blizzard lends you an Azerothian Riders' drake for the duration of the race. Nothing to farm beforehand: that's what makes the event doable in ten days.
The twelve courses, and their three variants
Each race exists in normal, advanced, and reverse versions. Here are the 12 courses published by Blizzard. The labels on the left are the official French labels, the ones you'll read in-game.
| Course (French label) | Zone | Original label |
|---|---|---|
| Murmure de la rivière Noire | the Grizzly Hills | Blackriver Burble |
| Sortie de la citadelle | Icecrown | Citadel Sortie |
| Franchissement de Frimarra | Coldarra | Coldarra Climb |
| Chahut du Chant de cristal | Crystalsong Forest | Crystalsong Crisis |
| Course de Coiffedague | Howling Fjord | Daggercap Dart |
| Déambulation à la Désolation des Dragons | Dragonblight | Dragonblight Dragon Flight |
| Balade géothermale | Borean Tundra | Geothermal Jaunt |
| Envolée de Gundrak | Zul'Drak | Gundrak Fast Track |
| Marathon du Faiseur | Storm Peaks | The Maker's Marathon |
| Courbe du cap du Forban | Howling Fjord | Scalawag Slither |
| Départ de Sholazar | Sholazar Basin | Sholazar Spree |
| Zéphyr de Zul'Drak | Zul'Drak | Zul'drak Zephyr |
Useful for planning your route: Howling Fjord and Zul'Drak each host two courses. The twelve races therefore cover only ten distinct zones.
Gold: a single tier, three rewards at once
This is the heart of the event, and it fits in one sentence from Blizzard: "Complete all Northrend Cup races earning gold." There's no rewarded intermediate tier: bronze and silver don't unlock anything listed. Gold across all the races, however, grants all three rewards at once:
- the achievement "Northrend Cup Perfectionist – Gold";
- the title "Northrend Pilot";
- the Frosty Tabard of the Azerothian Riders.
All three drop together, or none at all. This changes how you should play your ten days: there's no point in clearing twelve courses in silver. Lock in four of them in Gold, then the next four.
Sigils, and where to spend them
Completing Cup activities earns Sigils of Azeroth's Riders. Two vendors accept them:
- Maztha, at the Riders of Azeroth headquarters in Valdrakken;
- Dathendrash, at the Riders of Azeroth headquarters in Stormwind and Orgrimmar.
The currency is strictly cosmetic. And it needs to be said clearly: Blizzard has not published any prices. It's impossible to state how many races must be completed for a given piece; if a figure is circulating, it doesn't come from the publisher.
What's new this year
The 2026 novelty at the vendor is the bloodied skyriding gear: circlet, pauldrons, tabard, cloak, and cape. Blizzard only shows three of them: the cloak and the cape are not pictured, so you'll be buying them blind.

What's returning from stock
The rest of the catalog brings back previous editions, and that's where most of the volume to buy lies:
- the Endless Draconic Scale Vial toy, which "randomly selects your mounts' customizations each time you ride them";
- the Frostbeard Drake Pilot transmog set, nine pieces: helm, scarf, pauldrons, jersey, gloves, belt, leggings, and boots of the Frostbeard Drake Pilot, plus a drake pilot's scarf;
- four dragon customizations: Renewed Proto-Drake "double horned crest," Windborne Velocidrake "curved horns," Highland Drake "head with folded-back horns," and Cliffside Wylderdrake "large tail spikes";
- the Checkered Pennant.
Once everything else has been purchased, the Valdrakken Accord Sigil becomes a repeatable purchase. So any sigils earned in excess are not wasted.

The three things Blizzard isn't saying
The closing time. The announcement states "from August 25 to September 8," without a time. September 8 falls on a Tuesday, and nothing says whether the Cup runs all day or closes as soon as the first restart happens: don't leave anything for that day, aim for Sunday, September 6 instead.
The count of races to complete. Blizzard writes "several races" and lists twelve, without giving a total or specifying whether Gold must be earned on all three variants of each course or just one. Multiplying twelve by three to announce thirty-six races would be a deduction, not a published fact.
The costs. No sigil price appears anywhere, for any of the rewards.
The verdict
Despite these grey areas, the math stays simple. The Cup requires no gear, no group, and no rare mount, and it puts on the table a title, a tabard, and an achievement built for a single goal: it's the best playtime-to-visible-reward ratio of the period.
The only real mistake would be to start on the weekend of September 5th. Do Andestrasz's quest now and scout out the twelve starting points: here, the time you lose is mostly spent learning the routes.

Key takeaways
- Twelve courses in three variants each, but only gold across the whole set grants the visible rewards.
- No rare gear or mount required to participate, Blizzard even lends you a drake if you don't own one.
- Two weeks is short, aim for Sunday, September 6 rather than Tuesday the 8th to avoid disappointment at closing time.
- Extra badges earned beyond the rewards aren't wasted once purchases are made, thanks to a repeatable purchase.
- Three major gray areas: the exact closing time, the badge prices, and the exact count of races to complete.
