Once Human: the 10 best weapons of the season — 2026 tier list
In brief
The Survive, Capture, Preserve season has completely reshuffled the Once Human meta. Between the calibration overhaul in January 2026 and the arrival of the Starchrom system, versatile weapons with Anomaly synergies are exploding while ultra-precise specialists are collapsing. Our tier list of the 10 best weapons tells you which one to bring first, how to unlock them, and why the SOCR and the AWS.338 literally crush everything.
The current season of Once Human, dubbed Survive, Capture, Preserve, has upended the weapon hierarchy. The calibration overhaul in January 2026, the arrival of the direct Starchrom blueprint system, and the massive rebalancing of several legendaries have pushed a handful of rifles to the top of the meta, while relegating former stars to the shelf. Here's our updated tier list of the 10 best weapons available this month, with how to unlock each one, its PvE strengths, its PvP standing, and the utility Anomalies that really make it shine. Note: this covers the human arsenal — pistols, rifles, crossbows — not the capturable companions, which we've covered in a separate guide.
A season that reshuffles the deck
Since the January 21, 2026 overhaul, calibration is no longer an active gauge to maintain: blueprints are now activated directly in the dedicated screen via Starchrom, the flagship Battle Pass currency. As a result, players who used to juggle several builds can finally lock in their arsenal and focus on mods and ammo. The direct consequence for the tier list? Weapons that synergize with the maximum number of Anomalies and status effects (burn, weakness mark, power surge) have skyrocketed, while highly specialized weapons that required ultra-precise calibration to stay competitive have mechanically fallen behind.
The Survive, Capture, Preserve season also pushes toward more mobile gameplay, with dense mutant waves and world event bosses that punish single-target builds lacking AoE burst. It's this filter — versatility, sustained damage, the ability to clear trash just as well as burn down a boss — that served as the throughline for this ranking.

How we built this ranking
Each weapon was evaluated on five criteria: real-world damage per second (not on a dummy), PvE firing windows against seasonal bosses, PvP viability on Prime War servers, the actual Starchrom cost to unlock the legendary blueprint, and finally synergy with the most common utility Anomalies (Blaze Shard, Frost Breath, Little Extinguisher). The S+ tier groups the two weapons that virtually every top-level player prioritizes. The S tier gathers the essentials of a versatile kit. The A tier includes solid choices that require a heavier investment. The B tier closes things out with a nod to players who like to go off the beaten path.
Tier S+: the two weapons that crush everything
1. SOCR — The Last Valor (assault rifle)
This is the benchmark assault rifle in 2026. The SOCR fires 5.56mm rounds at 515 rounds per minute for roughly 45 damage per bullet, 30-round magazine. What pushes this rifle into S+ tier is its unique Shrapnel effect: each hit has a 4% chance to generate additional shrapnel that deals area damage around the target. Against a horde of mutants, the multiplier is monstrous; against a boss, the effect stacks with crits and acts as free damage over time.
How to get it: blueprint available via the Wish Machine and the blueprint shop (regular rotation). Expect around 8,000 Starchrom for a direct unlock. Legendary rarity. Key synergy: the Little Extinguisher Anomaly combined with a burn mod turns every Shrapnel proc into a mini bonfire. PvE: S+, unbeatable for silo and monolith farming. PvP: S, manageable fire rate and enough burst to drop a target in one magazine.
2. AWS.338 — Bullseye (sniper)
The best precision rifle across all categories this season. It fires .338 Lapua rounds for about 316 damage per bullet with 58m of effective range. Its signature perk, The Bull's Eye, grants a 70% chance to mark a target's weak point and stack a vulnerability multiplier on it. Suffice to say that against a world event boss or a poorly positioned opposing player, the health bar melts in two or three trigger pulls.
How to get it: legendary blueprint via the blueprint shop (Starchrom) or as a rare drop from high-difficulty security silos. Key synergy: the Sly Fanshy Anomaly, which detects and marks enemies at range. PvE: S+, unmatched in single-target scenarios. PvP: S, the king of one-shots on rooftops and long sightlines.

Tier S: the heart of the versatile meta
3. KVD — Boom! Boom! (heavy machine gun)
The KVD is probably the most discussed weapon of this patch. Fire rate of 500 rounds per minute, 100-round magazine, base damage of 44 per shot, and above all: every impact has a chance to trigger a small incendiary explosion that applies burn to nearby enemies. During a world event where fifteen mutants arrive in a wave, you turn the battlefield into a carpet of flames within seconds.
How to get it: legendary blueprint at the Starchrom shop, with a cosmetic Quicksand skin introduced in patch 2.3.4. Key synergy: the Little Extinguisher Anomaly massively boosts burn damage. PvE: S+, particularly fearsome for EX1 and Sigma silos. PvP: A, reload and weight limit fast duels.
4. Critical Pulse (crossbow)
Critical Pulse is a legendary Operator-type crossbow. It fires for about 310 damage per bolt and continuously triggers a power surge, with a 70% chance to generate deflected particles around the wielder. In practice, it's a nuke weapon for both tight groups and isolated targets in PvP.
How to get it: blueprint for 8,000 Starchrom via the shop. Legendary rarity. Key synergy: a full Power Surge build with fast-reload mods. PvE: S, the signature weapon for hard silos and end-of-scenario raids. PvP: S+, despite successive nerfs, it can still one-shot an entire group on a Cargo Scramble objective with a calibrated level-5 blueprint.
5. KAM — Abyss Glance (assault rifle)
Where the SOCR bets on versatility, the KAM bets on control. Firing 5.56mm rounds at 600 rounds per minute, 40-round magazine, its bullets trigger a Frost Vortex that slows and stacks a freeze status. In PvP, that basically pins the target in place long enough to line up the kill.
How to get it: legendary blueprint, often in rotation in themed blueprint shops. Key synergy: the Frost Breath Anomaly and an additive frost damage mod. PvE: A, decent but outclassed by the SOCR against low-tier mobs. PvP: S+, the go-to weapon for control builds in Prime War.
6. MPS7 — Outer Space (submachine gun)
The MPS7 is the benchmark for close-range burst. High fire rate, generous magazine, and above all a 25% power surge proc rate with no mod required — unique in its class. After every reload, a damage bonus stacks, encouraging a very aggressive fire/reload/fire cycle.
How to get it: blueprint at the Starchrom shop, standard price for legendary SMGs. Key synergy: fast-reload mods and the Blaze Shard Anomaly to stack burn and surge. PvE: S, unbeatable in silo corridors. PvP: A, very strong in close quarters, weak beyond 20m.

Tier A: the solid runners-up
7. ACS12 — Pyroclasm (automatic shotgun)
The ACS12 Pyroclasm is the shotgun of the season. Automatic, drum magazine, it applies burn on every impact and leaves pools of fire on the ground for several seconds. Against a boss that has to stay put — think Secure an Item mission bosses — it stacks continuous damage without you even needing to aim.
How to get it: legendary blueprint at the blueprint shop. Key synergy: the Little Extinguisher Anomaly is mandatory, along with burn and recoil-resistance mods. PvE: A, excellent in tunnels and enclosed arenas. PvP: B, effective range is too short to matter on open maps.
8. DE.50 — Wildfire (pistol)
A legendary pistol with a 60% chance to mark a weak point per shot, with per-bullet damage close to an entry-level DMR. As a sidearm, it makes a mockery of 90% of current builds as soon as you know how to aim for the head.
How to get it: standard Starchrom blueprint, with a seasonal Quicksand skin. Key synergy: vulnerability mods and the Sly Fanshy Anomaly. PvE: A, a dream sidearm to fill the gaps between sniper reloads. PvP: A, very punishing against lightly armored targets.
9. MG4 — Predator (light machine gun)
The MG4 fires at 700 rounds per minute, 75-round magazine, with a Fast Gunner effect that speeds up its fire rate the longer you hold the trigger. It's the ultimate suppression weapon, able to keep a whole squad pinned down in PvP or mow down a room full of mutants in PvE.
How to get it: legendary blueprint at the shop. Key synergy: stability mods and the Blaze Shard Anomaly. PvE: A, a great alternative to the KVD if you prefer sustained single-target damage. PvP: A, fearsome for objective defense.
10. HAMR — Brahminy (assault rifle / DMR)
The HAMR Brahminy rounds out our top 10 with its ricochet effect: an 80% chance for a weak-point hit to bounce toward a nearby enemy. Against the dense waves of this season's world events — particularly the new event chain following the March 11, 2026 overhaul — it's a dream for efficient farming.
How to get it: rare drop from security silos or Starchrom blueprint at the shop. Key synergy: weak-point damage mods, the Sly Fanshy Anomaly. PvE: A, a specialist for tight waves. PvP: B, the ricochet is rare against a mobile opponent.
Honorable mentions and traps to avoid
Three weapons narrowly miss the top 10. The R500 — Memento is a pistol that plays like a sniper: colossal damage but a fire rate of only 145 rounds per minute and punishing ammo management. The MPS5 — Kumawink bets on bullet ricochet, very fun but less consistent than the HAMR. Finally, the SOCR — Outsider remains a safe bet for new players who don't yet have the Last Valor blueprint.
To avoid this season: older rifles built around raw fire rate with no elemental effect (the old versions of the M416 or the base AK-47), which can no longer keep up against the current mob density, and poorly managed launchers that waste scarce ammo.
Synergies with utility Anomalies
The real secret to an S+ weapon in 2026 lies in its pairing with the Anomaly that accompanies it. As a reminder, the term Anomalies refers both to capturable companions and to the hostile zones where they're found — context makes the distinction. Four pairings push a weapon up almost a full tier instantly:
- SOCR / KVD + Little Extinguisher: area burn multiplies, ideal for silos.
- AWS.338 / DE.50 + Sly Fanshy: ranged marking and weak-point bonus, unbeatable against bosses.
- KAM + Frost Breath: full lockdown in PvP, the enemy simply can't act.
- Critical Pulse + power surge: AoE nuke plus single-target burst, the most cost-effective combo of the season.

PvE or PvP: which arsenal for which battlefield?
A pure PvE player should prioritize SOCR — The Last Valor, AWS.338 — Bullseye, and KVD — Boom! Boom!. This trio covers trash clearing, bossing, and AoE, with healthy redundancy if one of the three is reloading. Budget runs between 24,000 and 25,000 Starchrom for the full package, or two to three Battle Pass passes depending on how regularly you play.
A player focused on Prime War and PvP raids should favor Critical Pulse, KAM — Abyss Glance, and AWS.338 — Bullseye. The control provided by the KAM's freeze, combined with the sniper's range and the Critical Pulse's AoE burst, makes for an extremely punishing kit the moment an opponent misplays their positioning. On Cargo Scramble or Secure an Item objectives, this trio dominates.
For versatile players who alternate between daily PvE and PvP forays, the SOCR / MPS7 / AWS.338 trio covers 90% of situations. It's also the most ammo-efficient kit, which matters when you're farming for several hours straight.
How to prioritize your Starchrom this season
Since the March 11, 2026 overhaul, blueprints are activated live via Starchrom, which makes prioritization crucial — no more leaving things to chance like before. Here's the recommended order if you're starting from a fresh wallet: first SOCR — The Last Valor (the most cost-effective weapon relative to playtime), then AWS.338 — Bullseye (essential as soon as you start tackling world events), and finally, depending on your playstyle, KVD — Boom! Boom! for heavy PvE or KAM — Abyss Glance for competitive PvP.
Always keep a reserve of 6,000 to 8,000 Starchrom for the weekly rotation: limited-time blueprints come back regularly, and some skins like the Quicksand series (KVD, DE.50, EBR-14) only stay in the shop for a few days.
Key takeaways
The Survive, Capture, Preserve season rewards elemental arsenals (burn, freeze, surge) and penalizes purely mechanical weapons. If you only remember one thing: start with the SOCR — The Last Valor, it'll pay back your 8,000 Starchrom from your very first silo run. After that, pick your path — sniper or LMG — depending on whether you're hunting bosses or clearing waves. And above all, pair every weapon with a compatible Anomaly: that detail, more than calibration, is what separates an A-tier player from an S-tier player today.
