In brief

Moonlight Peaks patch 1.2.7 finally fixes the Elections by Moonlight quest that was blocking narrative progression, but your save isn't repaired automatically: you'll need to redo the dialogues of the NPCs whose names aren't crossed out in the objective. The fix also comes with a correction for an infinite loading bug tied to Gramophone placement after a house upgrade.

If your Moonlight Peaks playthrough has been stuck on the Elections by Moonlight quest for a few days, the fix is out: patch 1.2.7, released by Little Chicken on August 24. But it doesn't repair your save on its own — there's a manual step to do, and the studio describes it in a single sentence that many players will skim past too quickly.

Here's what 1.2.7 fixes, how to unblock the quest, and the second bug it addresses: a misplaced gramophone that was freezing the loading screen on the transition to the following night.

There is no French version of Moonlight Peaks, and its patch notes are published in English. The quoted passages in this article are our translation: they are not official labels from a French client.

The Elections by Moonlight blocker: what you need to redo

The studio writes: "Fixed an issue where the Elections by Moonlight quest could not be progressed. Players will need to redo quest dialogue with NPCs that are not crossed off in their quest objective."

There are two pieces of information in that sentence, and the second one is what matters.

  1. The bug is fixed on the code side: it won't happen again on a new playthrough.
  2. Your save is not repaired automatically. Progress tracking stays exactly where it stopped, and it's up to you to move it forward.

The steps to follow

  1. Update the game to 1.2.7. On Steam, the update installs automatically on launch.
  2. Open your quest log and check the Elections by Moonlight objective.
  3. Look for the names that are not crossed off. This is the key point: the game isn't asking you to start everything over, only to go back to the NPCs whose line isn't struck through.
  4. Talk to each of those NPCs again and redo the quest dialogue in full. Don't cut it off partway through.
  5. Once all the names are crossed off, the quest should proceed normally.

Don't start a new playthrough and don't restore an earlier save: that's exactly what this patch makes unnecessary.

Which step are we actually talking about?

Elections by Moonlight is a story quest, not a side quest. It opens after Brook's departure, when the town has to choose a new mayor. Its objectives, as listed on the game's official wiki, run as follows:

  • ask residents who should run for mayor;
  • report back to Orlock;
  • head to the Town Hall for the big announcement;
  • return to the Town Hall to vote;
  • put up posters for the chosen candidate.

It's the first objective — the one where you go around talking to residents — that the patch note is referring to: it's the only one that checks off NPCs one by one. If the quest refused to progress, this is where it was getting stuck, and so it's this round of conversations that needs to be redone for the names that remain unchecked.

Since this is a main story quest, the blocker didn't just cost a reward: it halted all narrative progress behind it — Seeing Seers, A Missing Moon, and everything after wouldn't open up.

The second fix: the gramophone that froze the loading screen

The studio describes the issue as follows: "Fixed an issue where upgrading the house would cause an infinite loading screen when starting a new night if a Gramophone was placed in certain locations."

The combination is precise, and all four conditions have to be met to trigger the bug:

  • a Gramophone placed in the house;
  • at a specific location — the studio doesn't say which ones;
  • a house upgrade carried out afterward;
  • then moving on to the next night, which would never finish loading.

This is the worst kind of bug for a management game: it doesn't show up the moment you make the mistake, but a cycle later, once you've already forgotten you upgraded the house. It's now fixed, but if you have a save stuck on a night-loading screen, 1.2.7 is what you need.

Where 1.2.7 fits in a string of very closely spaced patches

Three updates released in five days: that's a lot, and it's worth knowing what each one does.

VersionDateContent
1.2.3August 20The big update, with a price rebalance that went wrong
1.2.6August 21A reversal on the economy: the studio restores red wine, white wine, and beer to their pre-1.2.3 recipes and prices, and raises honey's price to bring income back to the same level. Batch cooking triples its capacity and now only requires the mini-game once
1.2.7August 24Fixes only: the Elections by Moonlight quest and the Gramophone

One numbering detail that piques curiosity: there is no version 1.2.0. The Steam history jumps straight from 1.1.45, on July 21, to 1.2.3 on August 20 — it's 1.2.3 itself that the studio presents as the major update.

A note on names

Moonlight Peaks is not localized in French: its official store page only offers English, German, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese in both its variants. Elections by Moonlight, Gramophone, Town Hall, Orlock, Brook: all these labels appear in English in your game, and there's no official translation to swap them for. We're therefore keeping them as they are — that's how you'll see them on screen, and that's how you should look for them in your journal.

Key takeaways

  1. 1.2.7 unlocks Elections by Moonlight, but doesn't fix your progress: you'll need to redo the dialogues with the NPCs that aren't crossed off in the objective.
  2. Don't use an old save: the workaround is enough on its own.
  3. The second fix targets the infinite loading screen caused by a misplaced Gramophone after a house upgrade.
  4. If you were still playing on 1.2.3, you'll also pick up the economic reversal from 1.2.6 and the expanded batch cooking along the way.

Frequently asked questions

I'm stuck on Elections by Moonlight — do I really have to start over?
No. Open your journal, find the names that aren't crossed out, and redo only their dialogues. That's the only extra step the fix requires.
Why isn't my save fixed automatically?
The bug is fixed in the code, but your progress stays frozen where it stopped. Little Chicken didn't want to risk the complications of an automatic repair: picking things back up manually is enough, and it's safer.
What exactly is the Gramophone bug?
After a house upgrade, if you had a Gramophone in a specific spot, transitioning to the next night would freeze the loading screen indefinitely. 1.2.7 fixes this.
What's the difference between 1.2.3, 1.2.6, and 1.2.7?
1.2.3 was the big update (with a problematic economy rebalance). 1.2.6 rolled back the economy changes. 1.2.7 is purely critical bug fixes.
Is Elections by Moonlight an important quest?
Yes, it's the story quest that opens up the narrative endgame: Seeing Seers, A Missing Moon, and the rest only unlock afterward. The blocker was bringing your progression to a complete halt.

Key takeaways

  • Is the Elections by Moonlight quest unlocked? Not so fast: you'll need to trigger the remaining NPCs' dialogues yourself.
  • Only the names not crossed out in the objective need to be redone — no need to start everything over.
  • The Gramophone bug that froze the loading screen at night has finally been fixed.
  • Don't restore an old save: the manual workaround is all you need.
  • If you were coming from 1.2.3, you'll also benefit from the economy fix and the batch cooking improvement.
