Fortnite: “Frenzied Harvest” ends tonight — what stays on your account, what disappears, and why “Reality Reset” isn’t the season’s name

The welcome message in Fortnite now reads: "Reality Reboots August 20 — Change the rules. Flip the game. Chapter 7 Season 4 begins August 20!" That's Epic Games' official wording, served in French in the client.

The current season, "Collecte effrénée", is thus living out its final hours. Here's what disappears with it, what stays on your account, and a clarification on a name that half the French-speaking sites are going to butcher this week.

"Réinitialisation de la réalité" is not the season's name

First thing to clarify, because the mistake is already starting to spread. The English version of the same message says: "Reality Reboots August 20". That's a sentence with a conjugated verb — "reality reboots" — not a title.

"Réinitialisation de la réalité" is therefore a tagline, not the name of Chapter 7 Season 4. Epic has published nothing beyond "Chapter 7 - Season 4" as the official French designation at this stage. If you see "the Réinitialisation de la réalité season" going around, that's an extrapolation.

In the same vein, note the correspondence between the names of the ending season: what the English-speaking press calls Runners is called "Collecte effrénée" in the French client. Both circulate, but only one is official here.

The official vocabulary of the ending season

Since all this terminology is going to disappear from the welcome screen tomorrow, it's worth pinning down properly. Here are the French phrasings published by Epic in its in-game messages, alongside those you'll come across in English-language guides:

What defined "Collecte effrénée", and what has no guarantee of surviving

The season rested on three pillars, all described by Epic in its in-game messages.

Spirits. You equip one before each match to obtain a unique spirit power — Epic cites "threat tracking" and "shield regeneration". They level up during a match through eliminations, opening chests and reviving teammates, and you pick up new ones at extraction sites to grow your collection.

Seven Sliders. They unlock "high-speed slides with slow motion and increased aiming precision while sliding". This is the season's signature mobility mechanic.

The season's weapons. The Chaos Exploder Rifle, "whose rounds explode on impact", and the Extending Focus Shotgun, triple-barreled, built for close-range eliminations.

It's important to be precise about what can actually be said: Epic has not published any list of items that will be removed from loot on August 20. Historically, mechanics and weapons tied to a specific season leave the rotation at the switch, but until the Chapter 7 Season 4 patch notes are online, no one can say which ones will stay. Any "vaulted weapons list" published today is a prediction.

What stays on your account no matter what

Three principles, which have nothing specific to do with this season but that people forget the day one ends:

• What you've unlocked stays in your locker for good. An outfit obtained this season won't disappear at the switch.
• What you haven't unlocked before the switch can no longer be unlocked afterward. A season's Battle Pass closes with it: remaining progress doesn't carry over to the next one.
• V-Bucks stay on the account. They aren't tied to any season.

The consequence is simple: if your Battle Pass isn't finished, these are the last hours to level up.

Baba Yaga: tonight's special case

One reward deserves a separate mention, because it requires an action and not just levels. Epic announced it this way: "The unstoppable assassin has joined the fight. […] Battle Pass holders can unlock the John Wick outfit and save his dog in Battle Royale to get a pet."

Two distinct elements, then: the outfit, which comes through the Battle Pass, and the pet, which requires finding and saving the dog in a match. The second isn't a box to check in a menu — it has to be done in-game, and the window closes with the season.

What Epic hasn't said, and what you should stop looking for

Three pieces of information everyone is waiting for and that have not been published at the time of writing:

• The maintenance time. Epic has announced August 20, without a specific time. Switch maintenance windows are communicated via the game's status account, usually a few hours in advance.
• Season 4's content. No list of weapons, points of interest, or collaborations is official. What's circulating comes from leaks, and we've already sorted out what's confirmed from what's assumed in a previous article.
• The fate of a possible end-of-season event. Epic's message talks about a reset of reality, not a dated playable event.

The to-do list before you go to bed

Three priorities, in this order:

1. Claim everything that can be claimed. Open the Battle Pass and check that no unlocked reward is waiting for a click. It's the silliest and most common loss.

2. Save John Wick's dog if you have the Battle Pass and don't have the pet yet. It's an in-match action, and it can't be made up for in a menu.

3. Play your last few levels if you're close to a tier. A tier at 90% is worth exactly as much as a tier at 0% tomorrow morning.

The rest — the collected spirits, the gliders, the chaotic explosive rifle — already belongs to the past. Reality restarts tomorrow.
