Fortnite System Hacked: the Season 4 map has switched to English — Sanctuaire séculaire, Réalité réformée, and 7 "Hacker Console" landmarks

The French map data for Fortnite has flipped over. For the Chapter 7 Season 4 island, "Système hacké", the public mirror of the game's localization strings now returns 39 locations — 13 named points of interest and 26 landmarks — and every single one carries a French label. As recently as August 21, 2026, that same source was still serving up the Season 3 names.

The three brand-new points of interest that the v42.00 patch notes only listed in English now have their French client labels. Stone Sanctum is written Sanctuaire séculaire. Reality's Reign is written Réalité réformée. Green Hill Zone stays in English, and that's not an oversight: Epic's official French-language announcement itself reads "Foncez dans Green Hill Zone avec les chaussures de Sonic."

Second finding, and this one actually matters in-game: seven landmarks on the island are called "Hacker Console", each with its own coordinates. They're listed further down, alongside the point of interest they're closest to.

What we wrote yesterday, and why it no longer holds

Let's be upfront about it. In our August 21 guide covering the season's codes, we wrote that the three new points of interest kept their English names for lack of a published French label, and that the French map data was still serving up Season 3's names. That was true at the time we checked. It hasn't been true since the following day. We're correcting the record here, complete table included.

A methodological note, since it underpins everything that follows. The data comes from the public API fortnite-api.com/v1/map, which mirrors the game's localization strings language by language: this is not an Epic Games webpage. The process involves querying the same API twice, once in English and once in French, and matching entries by internal identifier — never by their order in the list, which varies from one call to the next. We then cross-checked the thirteen points of interest directly with Epic Games: queried in French, its content service returns the same labels, save for one capitalization difference — it writes "Bosquet de la Gloire" where the map data writes "Bosquet de la gloire." Green Hill Zone is further confirmed by the official French-language announcement.

The 13 Season 4 points of interest: English to French

This is the table every French player reading an English-language guide has been missing. None of these names were translated by us: these are the labels the French client actually displays.

Read the right-hand column against the left-hand one and one thing jumps out: almost none of these names is a translation. Golden Grove doesn't become "golden grove" but Bosquet brillant. Sunken Shores doesn't become "sunken shores" but Mare mondaine. Chopped Shop becomes Circuit solitaire, Shaken Sanctuary becomes Sanctuaire prospère, The Battlewoods becomes Bosquet de la gloire. Epic's localization team is building French alliterations rather than transposing meaning. The practical consequence: you can't guess the French name from the English one, and the reverse is just as true. Which is exactly why it's worth keeping this table handy when following an English-language guide, VOD, or discussion thread.

Three out of thirteen locations changed names with Season 4

The internal identifiers tell the story of the swap. The three newcomers occupy three locations that already existed in Season 3: we had recorded their names from the same API on August 9, 2026.

The other ten points of interest keep their names from one season to the next. What v42.00 delivered on August 20, 2026 isn't a brand-new island, then, but three substitutions. The patch notes describe them in a single line: the secrets of the ancient Stone Sanctum, the loops of Green Hill Zone where you need to keep your speed up, and the pipes and electrical cables of Reality's Reign.

The 7 "Hacker Console" landmarks, coordinates included

Here's the most useful part, and it also fills a gap. Epic's French-language announcement simply states that "hacker consoles appear in every match," without ever saying where. The map data, on the other hand, names seven distinct landmarks "Hacker Console." These seven locations have fixed coordinates: the season's geography therefore has seven identified spots that carry this name.

Three honest caveats. The coordinates are those returned by the API, in the engine's own units: we're not converting them to meters, since Epic hasn't published any scale factor. The right-hand column is our own calculation, the smallest coordinate distance to the thirteen named points of interest; it's meant to give context, not to measure precisely. And above all: Epic has not published any spawn list. That seven landmarks carry this name is a fact; that a console is active there in every match is written nowhere.

The 26 landmarks: the retro throwback shows in the names

Landmarks are those minor locations with no name displayed on the map until you've visited them. Season 4 lines up 26 of them, and a good half openly reference video game history.

Two islands are named after a Pac-Man ghost, a third after the character itself; two other landmarks reference the arcade, another the pixel. Fort-Canard, Quai Sconmange, Le Dodo-pas-Jojo, and the Centre de recherche Juscozo, meanwhile, carry over from previous seasons and keep their French labels.

Two spelling details worth flagging, since they're bound to trigger unwarranted "corrections" in guides. Acrades de la grange really is spelled that way in the French data, letter swap and all — we're reproducing the label, not correcting it. And Wonkeeland loses its internal capital letter in the French version, where the English writes WonkeeLand.

One last count, for anyone tracking untranslated names: out of the map's 39 entries, only four labels are strictly identical in both languages. Green Hill Zone, Arcade — the word is the same on both sides — and the two Carwash entries. Everything else has been reworked.

The fog of war now lifts landmark by landmark

One change in the v42.00 patch notes gives this landmark list a new significance. The map's fog now clears in small pieces: it's no longer entire points of interest that get revealed all at once, but each landmark individually, as you visit it. Your map now reflects exactly what you've actually explored.

In plain terms, your 26 landmarks won't fill themselves in on their own. Each one requires a visit on the spot, and the seven "Hacker Console" landmarks are part of that. A player who always runs the same route will take much longer to fill in their map than under the old behavior, where reaching a point of interest revealed the whole thing at once.

What to do with this over the weekend

Three things, in order. Keep the table of the 13 points of interest open while reading an English-language guide: that's where most minutes get lost, hunting for a "Golden Grove" that shows up on screen as Bosquet brillant. If you want to complete your map, start now: the fog lifts landmark by landmark and falling behind is hard to make up for. And jot down the seven coordinates above rather than trusting whatever location lists start circulating, none of which are based on anything Epic has actually published.

This record reflects the state of the map as of Saturday, August 22, 2026. A Fortnite island shifts over the course of a season: landmarks can be added, and nothing stops Epic Games from tweaking a label afterward. We'll update this record if the data changes.
