Fortnite Hacked System: living room cheat codes and unlock codes — and the 12 hidden letters in the welcome message

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, Hacked System, launched yesterday, Thursday, August 20, 2026, with the v42.00 update. It brings two distinct code systems, which the French version of Epic Games names in a way that will wreak havoc in guides: what you enter outside a match is called lobby cheat codes, and what you pick up during a match is called unlock codes.

This is the opposite of what intuition suggests. In English, Epic refers to Lobby Hacks and Cheat Codes: the word "cheat" refers to the codes painted on the island's walls, not the ones circulating online. Both French labels come from the official August 20 article and the in-game news feed; use them as they are, or risk looking in the wrong place.

There's also something to do starting today, Friday, August 21: the client's welcome message is titled "Crack the Lobby Cheat Code," and its twelve lines hide a string of twelve letters. We extracted it, and it's further down.

Two systems, two locations, two currencies

Three distinct mechanics overlap this season. They don't trigger in the same place and don't cost the same thing.

Lobby cheat codes: the "Admin Panel"

The concept boils down to one sentence from the v42.00 patch notes: you find a code published outside the game, then enter it into the new "Admin Panel" in the Battle Royale lobby. The French article calls them "real-world-inspired lobby cheat codes": they reach you through a channel outside the match itself.

Note: "Admin Panel" has no official published French label. The detailed patch notes are only edited in English, and the in-game news feed doesn't name this panel. We're keeping the English term rather than a translation you wouldn't find on screen.

What entering one grants, still according to the v42.00 notes: XP, Spirit Dust, a reality warp for your lobby section, and a chance to drop rare Spirit variants. So these codes aren't purely cosmetic: they feed the currency that powers everything else this season.

Epic hasn't published a centralized list or an expiration schedule: no official page will tell you whether a code found on social media is still valid.

The twelve letters hidden in the welcome message

The in-game news feed, spotted this August 21, contains a message titled "Crack the Lobby Hack". Its body runs twelve lines that, on reading, speak only of Sprites:

Power awaits in every Sprite...
Extract them.
Reveal their extraordinary hidden powers.
Fossick through every corner to find rare variants scattered across the island.
Encourage their progress and evolve them with Sprite Dust.
Cherish them and watch them grow more powerful.
Root out the ones missing from your collection.
Determination and tenacity will be key to collecting them all.
Excel and gain their power.
Ready your glider and start the hunt.
Rewrite your legend.
Rewrite the rules!

Now take the first letter of each line, in order: P, E, R, F, E, C, T, O, R, D, E, R. That spells PERFECTORDER: 12 letters for 12 lines.

This is not a translation accident. The English text carries the same acrostic, with the same initials: "Power awaits in every Sprite", "Extract them", "Reveal their extraordinary hidden powers", all the way to "Rewrite the rules!". An acrostic that survives translation intact was commissioned, line by line.

Let's stick to what's verifiable: the message is titled "Crack the Lobby Hack", it has twelve lines, and their initials spell out PERFECTORDER in both languages. What Epic doesn't state anywhere is that this word is the code to enter, and we haven't verified the input ourselves. Try PERFECTORDER in the "Admin Panel", then PERFECT ORDER as two words if the field rejects it.

Unlock codes: on the walls, with the arrows

The other system plays out in-match. The unlock codes are, per the v42.00 patch notes, hidden all over the island, tucked into points of interest and painted on walls. Interact with one, enter the sequence, and it frees an ally Sprite.

Epic opens this paragraph with a sequence of arrows: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, the directional portion of the Konami Code, minus the final B and A. It's the wink that sets the tone for the season. That said, the publisher does not state that every code on the island is this exact sequence: don't count on a single combination working for every wall.

To spot them, the season adds a dedicated consumable, the Cheat Code Locator, which "locates the nearest unlock code". It joins the Gizmos, alongside the Extraction Accelerator, the Llama Supply Drop, and the Spicy Taco. These names remain in English for lack of a published French label, as do the three new points of interest Stone Sanctum, Green Hill Zone, and Reality's Reign: Epic's French map data still points to Season 3's as of August 21.

One caveat if you play Ranked: Sprites are now collectible there, but their in-game powers are disabled. Freeing an ally Sprite in Ranked benefits your collection, not your match.

Hacked loot, and the Sprite Dust trap

Third system, the only one that costs something. Hacked Loot involves spending spirit dust to customize what drops from chests: hacked items have a chance to appear when opening them, depending on your configuration. This can be reset at will, but each reset also costs spirit dust.

Careful: you'll empty your reserve by changing your mind three times. Set your hacked loot once, run through several matches, then adjust.

One useful detail, because it ties the three systems together: among the twelve modifiers on the hacker consoles is a Loot Hack which, according to the v42.00 patch notes, grants a hacked loot item to the next chest opened. That one is free. Reaching a console before others therefore lets you get a taste without dipping into your spirit dust.

What order to spend in, concretely

The three systems aren't worth the same at the same time. The most rational order based on what Epic has published:

1. Lobby cheat codes first. Free, entered outside of a match in a few seconds, and they generate spirit dust instead of consuming it. It's the only one of the three that fills your reserve.
2. Unlock codes next. Also free, but they require play time. Keep a Cheat Code Locator handy for matches where you land far from a known point of interest.
3. Hacked loot last. The only expense, and it eats into your funds every time you change your mind. Only configure it once you've tapped the first two sources.

Upcoming deadlines in the next few days

Four deadlines frame this start of the season, two of them this weekend. Two of them fall under the Golden Hours: Epic has not published any French wording for this event, so we're keeping its English title.

The Golden Hours don't change either the lobby cheat codes or the unlock codes. However, they do drop golden variants of the spirits, and that's what should guide your budget: save spirit dust for Saturday night rather than spending it all on hacked loot before then.
