Fortnite OG Final Showdown Live Event: Start Time & Date

Epic slipped the date into Fortnite's message of the day, and it does not concern the current season: "Final Showdown - August 29 @ 2:00 PM ET". The message itself runs to three sentences: "The Devourer awakens. One brave hero will stand in its way! Drop into OG by 1:55 PM ET on August 29 to witness The Final Showdown live event."

There are therefore two things to remember, and the second is the one players miss every single time: it is not in the mode you play every day, and the door shuts five minutes before the start.

It is not in "Override"

The current Battle Royale season is called Override (Chapter 7, Season 4): the one with Sprites, the Hacker Console and the areas inspired by Sonic, Tetris and Pac-Man. The 29 August event, by contrast, takes place in Fortnite OG, the standalone mode that replays the maps and the arsenal of the game's early days.

In practice, at 19:50 CEST on 29 August, queuing for a Battle Royale match will get you nowhere. You have to go through the mode selector and launch OG. The two modes have their own queue, their own map and their own pass.

1:55 PM ET: exactly what Epic says

The French version of the same message of the day gives the European reference: « Ultime bataille - Le 29 août à 20h (CEST) », followed by « Rejoignez OG avant 19h55 (CEST) le 29 août pour assister à l'événement en direct Ultime bataille. » 1:55 PM ET is indeed 19:55 in Paris; 2:00 PM ET is 20:00. Both versions therefore say precisely the same thing: get in before 1:55 PM ET, and it starts at 2:00 PM ET.

In other words, Epic announces the start at 2:00 PM ET and asks you to be in five minutes beforehand. The margin is thin, and past live events have been merciless: servers strain when millions of players connect at once. Aim for 1:54 PM and you will be watching the event on Twitch.

The time where you are

• France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg: 20:00 on Saturday 29 August (entry before 19:55).
• United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal: 19:00.
• US East Coast and Quebec: 14:00.

29 August 2026 falls on a Saturday: for once, the European time slot is a comfortable one.

"The Devourer": what is confirmed, and what is not

Epic says only one thing about the plot: the Devourer "awakens" and "one brave hero will stand in its way". Nothing more. In particular, the publisher has announced no reward, no duration and no free cosmetic for taking part, and does not say whether the event closes the current Fortnite OG season.

Treat what circulates elsewhere with care, then: anything beyond this message is, for now, a leak or an inference rather than an announcement. We will update this page if Epic publishes more before Saturday.

Do not confuse it with "Power Hours"

For several weeks now Fortnite has been running weekly Power Hours, windows of a few hours that alter loot or gameplay — the "Golden Sprites" session of 22 August was one example. These are recurring appointments, staged for nobody, and they come back the following week.

A live event such as The Final Showdown is a different animal: it plays out once, at a set time, and it is not replayed in game. That is the distinction to bear in mind if you are wondering whether it is worth blocking out your Saturday evening.

Why the date is going unnoticed

The information is not hidden: it is simply badly placed. In the Battle Royale message of the day, the "Final Showdown" entry comes fifth and last, behind four panels that all talk about something else — the Override season, the Sprite collection, a style gifted with the Battle Pass, and the Fortnite Festival music pass.

Put another way: four entries out of five concern Battle Royale and Festival, and only one concerns OG. A player skimming the panel at launch stops before reaching the right line. That is also why the event has not made the noise it deserves.

The three questions Epic leaves open

Before you block out your Saturday evening, it is worth knowing what the publisher is not saying. Three unknowns, and they matter:

1. How long does it last? Epic gives a start time and a cut-off for entry, never a duration. In past live events the set piece ran from a few minutes to a quarter of an hour, preceded by a waiting-room stretch that could be longer than the event itself. Plan generously rather than tightly.
2. Is there anything to win? No participation reward has been announced. Do not count on a free cosmetic to justify showing up.
3. Is this the end of the Fortnite OG season? The word "final" invites that reading, but the publisher writes it nowhere. A narrative event is not necessarily a season finale, and conflating the two would mean inferring a calendar that has not been published.

A fourth, more mundane unknown: Epic does not say whether the event will be replayable in any form afterwards. Historically these sequences do not return in game, and only video recordings keep a trace of them.

The checklist before Saturday

1. Update the game during the week. A multi-gigabyte download at 19:45 is the surest way to miss the event.
2. Locate the OG mode in the mode selector now, so you are not hunting for it on the day.
3. Get in at 19:30, not 19:55. The official instruction is a limit, not an arrival time.
4. Plan to stay in the match: in previous live events, leaving meant not being able to come back.
5. Play solo if you are the only one who wants to attend: an incomplete squad or a teammate who disconnects should not cost you your slot.

And if the queue is full anyway: creators traditionally stream these events live on Twitch and YouTube. It is not the same as being there, but it beats discovering what happened in a comments thread.
