In brief

On August 19, Valve rolled out a major overhaul to Boulder's B site on Counter-Strike 2, accumulated since July 29. B heaven is gone, so are the sandbags, the B short roof becomes a boost, the interior doors of the B site have been rearranged to block sightlines into mid, and two critical wallbangs have been patched.

Valve updated Counter-Strike 2 on August 19, 2026. The official announcement runs three lines and names only two maps, Boulder and Poseidon, behind the same boilerplate formula: "Updated the map based on its latest version published on the Workshop." For Boulder, that sentence covers a rework of the B site.

The actual content is in the Steam Workshop changelog, where the map's authors publish their notes. Valve hadn't resynced Boulder since July 29: eight author revisions released between August 7 and 19 therefore landed in-game all at once. The path to B heaven was removed, as were the sandbags on the B site — and the roof of B short now serves as a boost. The interior doors of the B site were rearranged to block sightlines toward mid, and two wallbangs were patched out.

A note on terminology: the Workshop notes are written in English by the map's authors, not by Valve, and there is no official French wording for Boulder's callouts. We are therefore keeping the callouts in English — B heaven, B short, B main, mid, A upper —, as the French-speaking community does for every map in the game.

The August 19 announcement, and the three weeks it catches up on

Valve's French-language text files Boulder and Poseidon under [MAPS], with a link to the Workshop changelog in both cases. Then comes a single [GAMEPLAY] line, applying everywhere: "Fixed the following issue: model speed was too fast when moving against walls." The wording targets the speed of models, meaning what the opponent sees: we won't extrapolate beyond that. A timing detail: the announcement went out at 11:36 PM UTC, i.e. 1:36 AM in Paris on August 20.

Five removals around the B site, and a boost in exchange

The heaviest wave is the one from August 10, 11 and 12, republished three times by author morozov, give or take one fix. It removes more than it adds:

  • The B heaven path has been removed. This is the main structural change: a high-ground access to B site disappears.
  • The barrel on B site has been removed, along with the sandbags.
  • The church path has been closed at the B short / mid junction.
  • The statue and wooden fence in mid have been removed, and the inverted house has been extended to clear the corners.
  • The wall cover near the church, in mid, has been lengthened.

The trade-off lies in the same line of notes as the sandbags: “Removed sandbags on B site, the B short roof is now a boost”. Low cover disappears, a high position opens up. This shifts the defensive cost: where the stack offered free, permanent cover, holding the roof now costs two players and a few seconds, pins down a teammate, and exposes both to a well-placed flash. Something to try at the start of a round, never in reaction to contact.

For the rest, the reading goes both ways. One less path to B means one less angle to check on defense, but also one less execute on attack: strats combining a ground axis and a high axis are no longer playable on that side. The closing of the church path and the lengthened cover in mid, meanwhile, reduce the exposure of the player holding mid.

A note of honesty: the author's notes name the zones without providing a map or distances, and Boulder has no official radar in the game's files. We are describing what has been removed, not the geometry of what remains.

B site doors rearranged, B short house pulled in

The August 19 revision — 00:45 on the Workshop clock — is the one Valve actually shipped, and it's the most refined of the three waves. Three of its notes directly affect B site:

  • The interior doors of B site have been rearranged so that the angles toward mid are “more obscured”: you see less far into mid, and you're less exposed there.
  • The volume of B site cover has been reduced. Less material to hide behind: passive post-plant play becomes riskier.
  • The B short house has been pulled in slightly to create a safe spot facing the mid doors.

All three go in the same direction: cutting the long sightlines between mid and B site. A defense that used to get its information visually from B will now need to get it by sound, with a player dedicated to mid. On the attack side, the safe spot by the B short house offers a regroup point that the mid doors no longer cover.

Two wallbangs patched, and utility lineups to revisit

On August 14 and 15, the author published the same fix twice: “Fixed wallbang through the door in mid and curtain at B main”. Two surfaces no longer let bullets through: the mid door and the B main curtain. If your round opener included a shot through either of these, it no longer pays off — it just gives away your position and empties your magazine.

Second, larger round of changes: grenade clips were placed on the fences and walls starting August 7, then extended on the 12th. These invisible volumes prevent grenades from passing where they shouldn't. Any smoke or molotov lineup learned before that date needs to be redone on a private server.

Site A, three more discreet tweaks

Site A hasn't been overhauled, but it loses two freedoms and gains a blocker:

  • The stacked crates at the arches have been aligned to prevent a self-boost: you can no longer climb this stack alone.
  • The scaffolding on A upper road has been lowered.
  • A blocker has been added under the table in the A site upper room, closing off the angle on the feet that used to be visible under the scaffolding.

The last two go hand in hand: they remove a free information position, held from a distance and without risk. On A, the defense now has to show itself a bit more.

Our August 16 Boulder guide is partly outdated

Let's be upfront about it, since that's what makes this article useful. Our August 16 guide, covering the 18 official Boulder callouts extracted from the game's string file, has contained a misleading entry since August 19: it lists "Statue" among the map's callouts. But the mid statue was removed in the August 10-12 wave, and that's the version currently running on servers. The label still exists in the files; the object, however, is no longer there. Calling out "Statue" in a match no longer has a visual reference.

That guide also estimated it was "very likely, though unconfirmed" that servers were still running the July 29 build. That was accurate on August 16; the question has been settled since the 19th: everything that was waiting on the Workshop has been deployed.

Three things to relearn before playing Boulder again

One: load the map on a private server and walk through site B again. B heaven no longer exists, neither do the sandbags, the interior doors have moved — the kind of change that costs a round when you discover it mid-game.

Two: test the B short roof boost with a teammate and decide whether it's worth the cost, rather than improvising it in a match.

Three: redo your lineups. Between the grenade clips from August 7 and 12, the closing of the church path and the extended cover at mid, some of what worked two weeks ago no longer works.

Context reminder: Boulder is not part of the Active Duty map pool and never appears in Premier. You'll come across it in Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch, where it was added on July 8, 2026 alongside Fachwerk and Shelter. And keep your callouts in English: no official French version of these names exists.

In your opinion, does this B site overhaul make the map more balanced?

Frequently asked questions

Why hasn't Boulder been updated since July 29?
Valve hadn't resynced the map with its latest versions published on the Steam Workshop. Eight author revisions released between August 7 and August 19 therefore all arrived in-game at once on August 19.
What replaces B heaven?
Nothing replaces B heaven: it's simply an elevated access point that's gone. The B site loses a pathway, which used to simplify defense but also made attack executes more complicated.
Is the B short roof boost worth it?
Worth testing on a private server with a teammate. Unlike the sandbags, which offered free and permanent cover, holding the roof ties up two players, costs time, and leaves you exposed to a well-placed flash. It should be reserved for the start of a round, never as a reaction to contact.
Do I need to redo all my smokes and molotovs on Boulder?
Only the ones that went through the fences and walls where grenade clips were added on August 7 and 12. Test them on a private server: some may be blocked by these new invisible volumes.
What changed on the A site?
Three minor tweaks: the arch crates have been aligned to prevent a self-boost, the A upper scaffolding has been lowered, and a blocker now closes off the angle under the table in the upper room. Defenders will need to expose themselves more.

Key takeaways

  • B heaven removed: an elevated access point to the B site no longer exists
  • B short roof becomes a boost: two players now need to invest time to occupy a position that was once a free defensive spot
  • B site doors rearranged: angles into mid are more obscured, forcing defenders to rely more on sound
  • Two wallbangs patched: the mid door and the B main curtain can no longer be shot through
  • Grenade clips added: smoke and molotov lineups learned before August need to be rechecked on a private server
