GTA 6: 80 hours of gameplay, zero microtransactions, zero AI
In brief
Rob Nelson, co-director at Rockstar North, confirms that his playthrough of GTA 6 lasted around 80 hours completing the story and the optional narrative objectives. Rockstar promises zero microtransactions and zero generative AI, while the Leonida map turns out to be twice as big as GTA 5's.
Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, told the New York Times that his playthrough of GTA 6, conducted in February, lasted around 80 hours: main story plus optional objectives with narrative consequences. This isn't an official playtime figure, it's one developer's run.
Speaking to YouTuber TGG, who was hosted in Edinburgh, Nelson offered another measurement: the map of Leonida is twice the size of GTA 5's and three times that of Red Dead Redemption 2. That figure comes from him, not from the New York Times.

No monetization, no generative AI
Andy Cortez and Greg Miller of Kinda Funny say they asked Nelson both questions directly: nothing to buy with real money in the game, no generative AI. Rockstar hasn't published anything on the matter itself; it's these journalists who report his answers. The New York Times, for its part, counts more than 600,000 animations.
In an exclusive interview with IGN, Nelson details the Criminal Profile, a successor to the honor system from Red Dead Redemption 2. It doesn't punish crime itself, but gratuitous and repeated escalation. You stay powerful, he says, without being the only one capable of violence.
The wanted level follows the same logic: it requires a witness or an alarm, and icons show what the police have identified, from your face to your vehicle. The Extended Look pushes the meter up to six stars, whereas GTA 5 capped out at five.
Less than three months from November 19, Rockstar is selling a single-player experience that hands power back to the player rather than selling it to them.
