GTA 6: Rockstar details fishing, hunting and weight gain
In brief
Rockstar finally details the fishing, hunting, and physical management mechanics of GTA 6. Fishing will rival Red Dead 2 in depth but without keeping your catches, while hunting will generate money through a character connected to Jason. The most revolutionary aspect: Jason and Lucia will have reactive bodies, with visible weight gain, muscle loss, and fatigue depending on their habits.
Rockstar is finally breaking its silence on GTA 6's side activities. Rob Nelson, boss of Rockstar North, gave YouTuber TGG details on how fishing, hunting, sleep and physical management will work for Jason and Lucia. And it sounds like a strong comeback for the "life sim" side we knew from San Andreas.
On the fishing front, Rockstar promises a depth comparable to Red Dead Redemption 2. One notable difference: it won't be possible to keep your catches. Nelson explains that this system "didn't fit" with GTA 6, likely to avoid adding an unnecessary layer of inventory or monetary farming. Hunting, on the other hand, goes the opposite way: it will be introduced via a new character linked to Jason, and will indeed allow players to earn money by selling what they gather.

But the most interesting part lies elsewhere. Rockstar confirms that Jason and Lucia will have bodies that truly react to their habits: weight gain from overeating, muscle loss if you stop exercising, visible dark circles from lack of sleep. Gyms will require a subscription, and the inactive character can even work out at the same time as the one you're controlling - Nelson even talks about an "emergent date". Swimming, meanwhile, will replace the classic stamina bar with a lung capacity gauge.

This level of granularity is a reminder that Rockstar isn't just trying to check boxes with side activities. Here, every system seems designed to feed the overall immersion, not to artificially pad out the playtime.
