GTA 6 length: the map is 3 times bigger than RDR2, up to 100 hours of gameplay confirmed
In brief
Rockstar confirms that the GTA 6 map (Leonida) will be three times bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2's, putting the game in a different league compared to its open-world competition. Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, announces a playtime exceeding 80 hours for a full playthrough, with the possibility of reaching 100 hours or more for players exploring every corner.
Rockstar has just put numbers on the rumors. Leonida, the map of GTA 6, will be three times bigger than that of Red Dead Redemption 2. And the announced length is dizzying.
It's Rob Nelson, co-director of Rockstar North, who dropped the info in the New York Times. Concretely, that puts the map of GTA 6 at two or three times the size of that of GTA 5. Nelson claims to have personally finished the game in February 2026 after more than 80 hours of play, including the main storyline, side missions and a few extra activities. An average player could aim for around sixty hours, or even go over a hundred without trying too hard.

Why this number changes everything
A map three times bigger than that of RDR2 completely repositions GTA 6 against the open-world competition. Rockstar isn't just selling a city anymore, but an entire explorable state, with diving, kayaking, mini-golf and a whole bunch of races to fill this space.

It's also a direct answer to those who feared diluted content after such a massive map. Rockstar is clearly betting on density rather than emptiness: the studio is already talking about micro daily actions (eating, sleeping, working out) that affect the character. It remains to be seen whether this size will translate into real gameplay richness or just padding. Given the studio, some doubt is understandable, but confidence still seems warranted.

Release still set for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series.
