Clair Obscur Expedition 33: Eternal Tower guide — the 33 trials, the 9 Pictos and the loot
In brief
The Eternal Tower offers 33 battles across eleven tiers, with massive loot in Lumicolor, Chroma Catalysts, and nine exclusive Pictos. The real challenge isn't raw difficulty, but the elemental absorptions that punish mono-element teams, particularly at tier 6 for Fire builds.
The Endless Tower is the only place in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that truly feels like a challenge dungeon: eleven tiers, three trials per tier, thirty-three battles lined up one after another. It's also the most poorly documented content in the game on French-speaking sites, because most of the tables circulating have been automatically translated from English, resulting in three different sets of names for the same nine Pictos.
The loot, on the other hand, doesn't vary: 37 Lumina Colors, 32 Grand Chroma Catalysts, 1 Perfect Chroma Catalyst, 9 exclusive Pictos, six hairstyles, an outfit for Verso, a music record, and the "Endless" trophy upon exit. Relative to the time invested, it's the best source of endgame weapon upgrade materials.
The trap isn't raw difficulty — trophy hunters consider the Tower noticeably more manageable than Simon or Clea. It lies elsewhere: several tiers are built around enemies that absorb an element, meaning they heal when you hit them with it. Showing up with a mono-element team turns a ten-minute trial into a brick wall.
Where to find the Endless Tower and when to go
The Tower stands on the western edge of the world map, northwest of the Gestral Village, at the location of the large golden circle visible on the map. It's only accessible once Esquie can fly, an ability obtained after defeating the Paintress, inside the Monolith: in practical terms, this is Act III content.
Two things to check before taking off:
- Make sure you have the Overpaint Power Picto and its Lumina activated on the whole team. Without it, you stay capped at 9,999 damage per hit and tiers 9 through 11 become endless.
- An Expedition Flag awaits you in the hall: the Tower is connected to fast travel, so you can tackle it over several sessions.
Once there, don't launch the first trial right away: an outfit is tucked under the staircase on the right, in the shadow of the scenery.
A note on terminology: several French-speaking sites refer to it as the "Tower without end." The French client actually says Tour Éternelle (Endless Tower), and the associated trophy is called "Endless" — "reach the top of the Endless Tower." That's the wording to remember.
How the ascent works
Everything starts from the canvas set up in the center of the hall: you interact with it to launch the next trial, you're thrown into an arena against a group of three Nevrons — a boss on trials that are multiples of three — then you return to the hall.
This is the point many players discover too late: nothing forces you to chain fights back to back. Between trials, you heal, recharge your Tints, change weapons, Pictos, and Luminas. These aren't thirty-three endurance battles with limited resources, but thirty-three independent battles that you each approach with the ideal setup. The saveable Lumina loadouts added by update 1.5.0 exist for exactly this purpose: prepare two, one geared toward elemental damage and one neutral, and switch depending on the tier.
Each standard trial grants 1 Lumina Color and 1 Grand Chroma Catalyst. The third trial of each tier adds an exclusive Picto, a hairstyle, or both.

The eleven tiers and their rewards
Picto names are given in their French wording, followed by the original name in parentheses: this is the only reliable way to keep track, as several French-language guides publish homemade translations that don't match any wording found in the game.
| Tier | What you face | End-of-tier reward |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gault, Lustrion, Potier, Dualliste, Troubadour | Greater Defenceless Picto |
| 2 | Démineur, Volester, Bénisseur, Ballet, Chapelier, then the Lampmaster | Energising Rush Picto |
| 3 | Hexga, Cruler, Boucheclier, Goblu, Chromatic Mitrien | Clea hairstyle (Lune) |
| 4 | Chromatic Orphan, Jar, Rocher, Bourgeon, Chromatic Stilt-walker, Reaper | Time Tint Picto + White Twin Braids hairstyle (Maelle) |
| 5 | Chromatic Watcher, Brûleur, Chromatic Aberration, Chromatic Troubadour | Charging Critical Picto + White Rebel hairstyle (Lune) |
| 6 | Stalact, Danseuse, Portier, Chromatic Braseleur, Glaise, Gargant | Critical Weakness Picto + White Loose Bun hairstyle (Sciel) |
| 7 | Bishop of Flames, Chromatic Brûleur, Aberration, Ultimate Sakapatate | Fueling Break Picto + Clea hairstyle (Sciel) |
| 8 | François, Chromatic Lancelier, Chromatic Boucheclier, Chromatic Glaise | Empowering Tint Picto |
| 9 | Chromatic Ballet, Braseleur, Stalact, Bishops of Flames, Thunder and Ice, Chromatic Danseuse | Rush on Powerful Picto + Expedition White hairstyle (Verso) |
| 10 | Chromatic Portier, the three Chevalières (steel, ceramic, gold), Chromatic Chalier | Greater Powerless Picto |
| 11 | Chromatic Reaper, Création, Chromatic Clair Obscur, Lampmaster, then Painted Love | Clair outfit (Verso), Clea music record, 5 Lumicolor, 1 Perfect Chroma Catalyst |
Tier 3 is the only one that yields no Picto, and Tier 11 replaces its Picto with the outfit and music record. Hence the total of nine Pictos, not eleven.
The real trap: elemental absorptions
A reminder of how the affinity system works: a Weakness increases damage by 50%, a Resistance halves it, a Nullification reduces it to zero, and an Absorption heals the enemy. The Tower's designers have clearly built certain tiers around this last mechanic.
Tier 6 is the Tower's wall
Three consecutive trials, three different absorptions:
- Trial 16: Stalact and Danseuse absorb Fire.
- Trial 17: the Chromatic Braseleur absorbs Fire, the Glaise absorbs Earth.
- Trial 18: the Gargant absorbs Ice.
A team built around a single element ends up healing its opponents for three fights in a row. This is by far the point where players give up.
Fire is the worst-placed element in the Tower
Danseuse, Braseleur, and Stalact all absorb Fire, and they come back for trials 16, 17, 19, 21, 25, 26, and 27. In other words: a Maelle build centered on Bruleurum and Burn Luminas, devastating everywhere else in the game, is explicitly punished on tiers 6, 7, and 9. Prepare a backup weapon for these three tiers, or switch Maelle to a physical setup.
Other traps to know about
- Gault (trials 1 and 7) and Glaise (trials 17 and 24) absorb Earth.
- The Chromatic Mitrien (trial 9) resists Physical damage: it's the only spot early in the Tower where an all-physical team stalls.
- The Lamp Master (trials 6 and 32) has no weakness and resists Light. It can't be bypassed through affinities: it comes down to Mark and raw damage.
- Conversely, the Chromatic Burner in trial 20 is weak to every element. It's the fastest fight of the climb if you arrive with a charged elemental skill.
A useful clarification about Mark, often misunderstood: it adds 50% damage to a single instance of damage. In trials with three opponents, it's almost always wasted; save it for trials 6, 32, and 33, where one big hit makes all the difference.
The Eternal Tower is also the best endgame farming spot
Two reasons to go even if you're not interested in Pictos.
Monoco. His skill wheel fills up by fighting a variety of Nevrons, and the Tower lines up a long list of species across thirty-three fights, including many chromatic versions found nowhere else in the game. Between the Interior of the Monolith and the thirty-three trials, you pick up the overwhelming majority of his bestiary. Bring him along, even benched.
Your weapons. The 32 Grand Chroma Catalysts and the Perfect Catalyst from the summit are exactly the resource that gates weapon upgrades to level 33 at the Curator. The 37 Lumicolor, meanwhile, convert directly into Lumina Points. A completed Tower means one fully maxed end-game weapon and an LP reserve for two characters.
Finally, the music recording earned at the summit is one of the thirty-three in the game: if you're going for full collection, the Tower is not optional.

Amour Dépeint, the thirty-third trial
The summit pits the team against Amour Dépeint, a duo fight where both halves share a single health bar: there's no point focusing your efforts on one, the bar drops the same way regardless. It's a fight about parries, not stats — and by general consensus, it still ranks below Simon and Clea in terms of pure difficulty.
Winning grants Verso the Clair outfit, the musical recording, five Lumicolor, and the Perfect Catalyst. Then go back and talk to the erased woman stationed near the canvas in the hall: the conversation unlocks Maelle's Ponytail hairstyle and validates the "Eternal" trophy.
The four canvases added by update 1.5.0
Since the free "Thank You" update, rolled out on December 11, 2025 alongside the Game Awards, the Tower's hall has changed its decor: the red paintings hanging on the walls have been replaced by the portraits of four reworked bosses. They are accessible from canvases placed behind the main canvas and have nothing to do with the progression of the thirty-three trials.
On the menu: the Lampmaster in chromatic version, a duo of Duelists, as well as Clea and Simon in considerably harder versions. One condition locks them: you must have defeated the original version of each boss, elsewhere in the game, for its canvas to activate.
What order to tackle them in
The best time to attack the Tower is right after obtaining Overpainted Power, and before the Renoir Sketches and the super-bosses. It serves as a launch pad: it levels you up, it fills Monoco's wheel, and it funds the weapon upgrades you'll need afterward.
The only discipline to impose on yourself is to never launch a trial with the setup from the previous one. Check whether a Brasier, a Dancer, a Stalact, a Clay, a Gault, or a Gargant is present, and adjust before entering. Thirty seconds of preparation per fight is enough to turn the Tower from a wall of several hours into a long but calm formality.

Key takeaways
- You can heal and reconfigure your team between each trial: these aren't 33 endurance battles, but 33 independent encounters.
- Tier 6 is the wall: three consecutive trials with three different absorptions that turn a mono-element build into a nightmare.
- Activate the Overpainted Power Pictos on the whole team from the start, otherwise you'll cap out at 9,999 damage and the later tiers become endless.
- Fire is the worst-placed element: Dancer, Brasier, and Stalact all absorb it, and they appear seven times across the 33 trials.
- Save two Lumina configurations (one elemental, one neutral) to quickly switch depending on the enemies you face.
