ENDLESS
The ENDLESS saga is the 4X strategy universe developed by the French studio Amplitude Studios, founded in 2011. It all began with Endless Space (2012), a space 4X that laid the foundations of a shared universe dubbed the "Endless Universe," haunted by the vanished Endless civilization and their mysterious artifact, Dust.
The studio followed up with Endless Legend (2014), which transposed the formula onto a fantasy setting with asymmetric factions and a heavily emphasized city system, praised by the press and the 4X community for its originality compared to more established series like Civilization. Then came Endless Space 2 (2017) and the survival-city builder spin-off Dungeon of the Endless, further expanding the range of genres covered by the brand.
What has set ENDLESS apart from the beginning is this discreet narrative continuity across games of different genres: each title enriches the same lore without ever being confined by it, an approach rare in Western AA games. Bought out by Sega in 2016 and then by Amplifier Game Invest, Amplitude has managed to preserve its creative identity.
Today, the franchise is back in the spotlight with ENDLESS Legend II, published by Hooded Horse after Amplitude's founders bought back the studio in 2024. The game, in PC Early Access since August 2025, is preparing to launch in 1.0 version on consoles, proof that the Endless universe continues to evolve and reach a wider audience beyond the historic circle of 4X players.
