Zenless Zone Zero: Clarette's kit decrypted — Slash with 3 stacks, 48% DEF and CRIT Rate beyond 100%
In brief
HoYoverse has unveiled Clarette, an S-rank Forge agent with a kit built on DEF rather than ATK — a rare reversal. Between Triple Stack Slash, Laceration on trigger, and Laceration as critical bonus, her system demands rethinking gear. Watch out: there are grey areas, and Bloodline Heritage requires a Confusion, Forge, or Electric teammate to unlock full power.
HoYoverse posted the fact sheet "Agent Mechanics Details 丨 Clarette" on Sunday, September 6, 2026, three days before the switch to version 3.2 "Their Hidden Stories". The post is nearly silent: four sentences and one line of dialogue. The kit fits into three vertical infographics and, above all, into four captioned animations that pass for simple gameplay clips even though they alone carry the skill names. We read all seven visuals panel by panel, in French and then in English.
The identity, as the publisher writes it: Clarette, S-rank, Electric attribute, Rupture specialty, Flint Workshop of Roscaelifer faction. And the definition of the specialty: "Rupture Agents possess considerable offensive power and deal significant DMG through the Gash and Maim effects."
Gash, Maim, Laceration: three words, three things
This sentence names only two of them; the animations add a third.
- Gash is the stack applied to the target: "When the Gash gauge is full, the enemy enters the Gash state, which can stack up to 3 times."
- Maim is the spending of that stack: Clarette "consumes a Gash stack, triggers Maim, and deals AoE DMG."
- Laceration is neither a stack nor an expenditure, but a substitution in the damage calculation.
The distinction is not cosmetic: the first is a three-tier counter placed on the enemy, the third a term in a formula. English also uses three roots: Gash, Maim, Laceration.
The paragraph that changes everything: she scales with DEF
The central block of the fact sheet, quoted in full: "DMG dealt by Clarette's skills is Sharpened DMG, and the DMG multipliers of her skills are based on her DEF. Upon landing a CRIT Hit, Laceration DMG replaces CRIT DMG in the calculation. When CRIT Rate exceeds 100% and a CRIT Hit is triggered, an additional Laceration effect may be triggered."
| What HoYoverse writes | What we take from it |
|---|---|
| Multipliers based on DEF | The stat to stack is DEF, not ATK: an offensive agent built around a defensive value, which is an unusual reversal. |
| Laceration DMG replaces CRIT DMG upon a CRIT Hit | The formula swaps terms on a crit. The publisher does not say anywhere what becomes of the CRIT DMG stat; we will not decide that in its place. |
| Beyond 100% CRIT Rate, "an additional Laceration effect may be triggered" | The surplus is not lost, which is the exception here. But nothing is guaranteed: the English text speaks of a check ("an additional Laceration check will be performed"), not a guaranteed effect. |

Sharpening and Scarlet Glyph: the loop described by the publisher
The resource is called Sharpening and recharges upon entering the field, with no numerical value given. Once the gauge is sufficient, the agent unleashes her EX Special Attack: Blood Pact - Secret Forging Techniques and "enters the Scarlet Glyph state for a certain duration". That's where the kit really opens up.
| Official EN label | What the sheet says |
|---|---|
| Basic Attack: Blood Pact - Stellar Forge | While in Scarlet Glyph. "Clarette will use her Bloody Axe to deliver up to three frontal slashes"; on the third hit, a perfect dodge can be triggered. |
| EX Special Attack in Scarlet Glyph | On a marked target, "this consumes Slash and inflicts Mutilation on the targeted enemy, along with additional AoE Electric DMG". |
| Basic Attack: Blood Pact - Executioner's Axe | After a Special Attack that triggered Mutilation. Chains into the 3rd hit of Stellar Forge to "continue stacking Slash on the enemy". |
| Ultimate: Blood Pact - Forged by Trials | "While active, the duration of Scarlet Glyph no longer decreases and the Scarlet Glyph state does not end." |
The loop is circular: entering Scarlet Glyph, stacking Slash, consuming it into Mutilation, restarting via Executioner's Axe, with the Ultimate freezing the countdown. Without a single number given.
One point goes beyond Clarette's specific case: the Defensive Assist: Iron Will, unique to the specialty, triggers when the agent on the field is about to be hit by "a control skill" and engages in "a contest of strength" which, if won, neutralizes it. Roadmap note: Stun specialty agents will receive one "in later versions".
Blood Legacy: the condition that constrains the squad
The additional ability is conditional: "When there is another Anomaly, Stun or same-attribute character as Clarette in your squad", Corruption restores "a certain amount of Decibels" to her, and any Mutilation trigger causes Stun agents to enter the Lingering Blade state, where "Lacerate DMG is increased for a certain duration".
HoYoverse offers two team compositions; only one agent appears in both.
| Agent | Attribute | Specialty | Condition met (our interpretation) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alexandrina Sebastiane, aka Rina | Electric | Support | Same attribute as Clarette |
| Norma Hollowell | Fire | Anomaly | Anomaly specialty |
| Koleda Belobog | Fire | Anomaly | Anomaly specialty |
Method: the infographic lines up the portraits without explaining why. The attributes come from elsewhere — the French post "Version 3.0 Limited-Time Channels (Phase 2)" from Monday, July 6, 2026 writes "Norma (Fire - Anomaly)", and the French HoYoLAB database sheets give "Electric / Support" for Rina, "Fire / Anomaly" for Koleda. The connection with the condition is our own interpretation.
The Bangboo on duty doesn't close the door: other squads work too, and it leaves it up to the Proxies to find them.

What to prepare, what the fact sheet leaves out
Two materials are named for upgrading the core skills: the Forgery Core and the Superior Dimension Data: Imitation Core. That's all you can start stockpiling right now.
On how to obtain her, the notice is clear-cut: signal search, with this warning — "Clarette is a limited S-Rank Agent and will not be available in the standard Channel 'Featured List'". The word "limited" translates the English "limited": she won't be joining the permanent channel.
Only one piece of equipment appears in the document, under the heading "recommended W-Engine": Scarlet Thirst, whose "Bloodthirst" effect increases "the wielder's CRIT Rate and Electric DMG", then "Electric Piercing DMG dealt" after an EX Special Attack or a Mutilation. It "only works on Defense Agents" and displays, at Phase 1 Level 60, a base DEF of 431 and a secondary stat of DEF 48%. The publisher is thus building her signature equipment around DEF.
The absences matter just as much: no Drive Disc, no figures for the Slash gauge, the Sharpen, the decibels released or the duration of Lingering Blade — HoYoverse writes "a certain amount" and "for a certain time" —, and no Mindscape: the section labeled "Mindscape" only carries an illustration.
In practice
Three things to keep in mind. DEF carries Clarette's damage, which makes the reflexes inherited from Attack Agents inoperative. The CRIT Rate above 100% retains value, something rare enough to matter in build choices. And Blood Inheritance requires a Stun, Defense or Electric teammate, otherwise part of the kit remains inactive.
Two caveats to close. All seven visuals carry the note "* Content under development, please refer to the official release for reference." And the only fixed date given by the publisher remains the end of the current version: the announcement of 3.1, from Wednesday, July 29, 2026, states that "Version 3.1 will end on 09/09/2026 at 06:00 (UTC+8)". In Paris, that falls at midnight, in the night of Tuesday, September 8 to Wednesday, September 9, 2026 — this is our conversion, as the publisher only publishes its own time zone.

An offensive agent scaling on DEF instead of ATK — good idea or a casual trap?
Frequently asked questions
Why does Clarette scale on DEF instead of ATK like other offensive agents?
What's a CRIT rate above 100%? What's it good for?
Can I run Clarette solo or do I absolutely need a Confusion, Forge, or Electric teammate?
What gear should I pick for Clarette?
The sheet says a lot of things, but there are no numbers — is that normal?
Key takeaways
- Clarette's damage multipliers hinge on DEF, not ATK: forget the instincts of standard Attack agents.
- A CRIT rate beyond 100% triggers an extra Laceration effect — the surplus is never wasted.
- Bloodline Heritage demands an ally of Confusion, Forge, or Electric type; without one, part of her kit stays inactive.
- Crimson Thirst, her signature engine-amp, stacks DEF as secondary (48%) and boosts electric edge damage.
- HoYoverse kept the numbers under wraps: Slash gauge, Honing, decibels, and Lingering Blade duration remain unclear.
