In brief

The Pelican Town Community Center can be bought for 42,500g via 30 bundles spread across 6 rooms, or for 140,000g by going through Joja — the latter path costs 97,500g more for one less reward. Between the first-year traps, the Desert locks, and the 1.6 Giant Stump, this guide breaks down every step, every reward, and every decision.

The Community Center in Pelican Town comes down to three numbers: 6 rooms, 30 bundles and 42,500g — the only gold expense of the project, namely the four bundles of the Vault (2,500, 5,000, 10,000 and 25,000g). The other twenty-six are paid in crops, fish and crafted items.

In contrast, the Joja membership sold for 5,000g by Morris unlocks the Joja Community Development Form: the same five restorations, 135,000g worth of work, or 140,000g including membership — and one less reward, since the Friendship bonus from the Bulletin Board has no equivalent with Joja.

The game is currently running on 1.6.15 since December 20, 2024, and 1.7, confirmed by ConcernedApe, has no release date: this walkthrough won't change. Added to it are the Missing Bundle and the Giant Stump from 1.6.

The cutscene only triggers via the Bus Stop, before 1 p.m. and in fair weather

The building stands north of Pierre's General Store. The scene that opens it requires entering Pelican Town from the Bus Stop, starting on Spring 5, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., on a rain-free day. Another route or a rainstorm won't trigger it.

It launches "Rat Problem", which requires interacting with the Gold Scroll in the lower left room. The next day, a letter from the Wizard opens "Meet the Wizard": head to his Wizard's Tower, west of Cindersap Forest, for the potion that allows reading the language of the Junimos. A Gold Scroll icon is then added to the player menu.

Each restored room unlocks a piece of the map, from the Quarry bridge to the Desert

Rooms unlock based on the number of completed bundles: the Crafts Room right away, the Pantry and the Fish Tank after one bundle, the Boiler Room after two, the Bulletin Board after three, the Vault after four.

RoomBundlesRoom reward
Crafts Room6Bridge to the Quarry repaired
Pantry6Greenhouse restored: year-round crops
Fish Tank6Glittering boulder removed, Copper Pan from Willy
Boiler Room3Minecarts: Mines, Bus Stop, Quarry, Pelican Town
Bulletin Board5+2 hearts (500 points) of Friendship per non-marriageable villager
Vault4Bus repaired, Calico Desert opened (42,500g)

The Friendship bonus ignores villagers displayed as "???" and Kent as long as he hasn't come home yet, on the first day of Year 2. Other traps: qualities stack when the bundle doesn't require any; the Artisan Bundle offers twelve items for six slots; a reward left on the ground is lost upon restoration, except since 1.4 where it reappears near the Junimo hut.

The Keg, the Crystalarium and the Quality Sprinkler are worth going for

Vault: 2,500 / 5,000 / 10,000 / 25,000 gChocolate Cake (3) / Quality Fertilizer (30) / Lightning Rod / Crystalarium

The Sandfish and the Red Cabbage are the two locks of the first year

The Specialty Fish Bundle requires a Sandfish, which can only be caught in the Desert: impossible to complete before clearing out the entire Vault, barring a stroke of luck at the Traveling Cart. The Dye Bundle requires a Red Cabbage, whose seeds only become available from Pierre in Year 2 — the 1.5 option that guarantees Red Cabbage Seeds at the Cart exists precisely to finish it in the first year — and a Sea Urchin, which can be picked up on The Beach after spending 300 wood on the right-hand bridge. The Cart never sells items of starred quality.

The Joja route costs 140,000 g for one less reward

RestorationForm price
Bus line with Calico Desert40,000 g
Greenhouse35,000 g
Quarry Bridge25,000 g
Glittering Boulder20,000 g
Minecart15,000 g
Total135,000 g (140,000 with membership)

On one side, 42,500 g and a lot of playtime; on the other, 97,500 g more for 5 restorations instead of 6. The community center becomes a Joja warehouse, and the form only allows one fundable restoration per day. Joining midway loses nothing — rooms already restored count as completed — but no discount exists for a half-filled room.

In exchange, completing the form grants a Beverage Vending Machine, puts the Auto-Petter up for sale at JojaMart, and earns a letter from Willy, who invites you to his back room.

Once all 30 bundles are completed, a storm opens the abandoned JojaMart and its missing Bundle

Completion unlocks the achievement "Local Legend". On the following sunny day, outside of a festival, the reopening ceremony gathers the village together and Mayor Lewis presents the Stardew Hero's Trophy. Facing Morris, there are two lines: "Let's be reasonable." or "Let's settle this the old-fashioned way.": JojaMart closes down either way.

The first night before a rainy or stormy day, lightning opens its doors. Inside, the Lost Package: five slots for six items on offer — silver-quality Wine (Keg), Dinosaur Mayonnaise, Prismatic Shard, gold-quality Ancient Fruit (5), gold-quality Void Salmon (Witch's Swamp) and Caviar. Reward: the Movie Theater.

The Giant Stump can't appear before the Greenhouse is standing

Added in 1.6, the Giant Stump stands north of Cindersap Forest, west of Marnie's Ranch. It spawns from a nighttime storm — 10% chance per night according to the English wiki — which only occurs once the Greenhouse has been built, so after the Cellar reward or its purchase from Joja. Repairing it costs 100 Hardwood, via the "The Giant Stump" quest.

A raccoon moves in the next day, then a request drops every 7 days, outside the quest log, as its family arrives. The requested items relate to the current season, except between days 22 and 28, when it asks for the next season's items, and often come from the Dehydrator, the Fish Smoker or the Preserves Jar. The first request gives 25 Carrot, Summer Squash, Broccoli or Powdermelon Seeds depending on the season and date, the second gives the Raccoon Journal, the third gives the Raccoon Hat — and at 9 requests the "Good Neighbors" achievement drops.

His wife's shop, open from the first request onward, doesn't take gold: it trades. A Maple Seed is worth Carrot Seeds and 999 Fiber gets the Journal; the Mahogany Seed (20 Coal) only arrives after the 4th request.

The only calendar that matters is the farm's own

No external deadline weighs on this project: 1.6.15 is dated December 20, 2024, and 1.7 has no date. What remains are Spring 5, year 2 for the Red Cabbage and the Greenhouse, the gateway to the Giant Stump.

Which path would you choose to restore Pelican Town?

Frequently asked questions

Do you really need to fund the Vault's 42,500g in the first year?
No, but it's worth it. Sandfish can only be caught in the Desert, and without the 42,500g, you can't access the Vault before Year 2. If you want to complete the whole Community Center in Year 1, it's essential — otherwise, you can spread it out.
What's the major difference between the Community Center and the Joja route?
The Community Center offers 6 rewards (Greenhouse, Minecarts, Bridge, etc.) for 42,500g, while Joja gives 5 for 140,000g. The Community Center also produces a massive Friendship bonus (+2 hearts for every non-marriageable villager), absent with Joja — it's pure social gain versus pure financial gain.
Is the Giant Stump actually important?
It appears after 1.6 and only triggers once the Greenhouse is built. It offers a unique bartering shop and some fun repeatable quests, but it's not a prerequisite for finishing the game — it's bonus content for completionists.
Can you really finish the Community Center in Year 1?
Yes, but on one condition: having Red Cabbage, which Pierre doesn't sell until Year 2. Fortunately, the Traveling Cart sells it starting in Year 1 (rarely, but it's possible). Otherwise, expect to wait at least until Fall of Year 2.
If I change my mind and switch to Joja along the way, do I lose my progress?
No. Rooms already restored in the Community Center count as completed for Joja, but no discount applies to a partially filled room — you pay for it in full again via the form.

Key takeaways

  • The Vault eats up 42,500g, but without it, forget about Sandfish and the Desert before Year 2.
  • The Greenhouse is obtained via the Cellar and unlocks access to the Giant Stump, which requires 100 Hardwood and kicks off a chain of quests.
  • Joja costs almost three times as much but spares you the intensive bundle farming — it's up to you to choose your poison.
  • Red Cabbage and Sea Urchin are the two first-year walls: impossible to get around without the Traveling Cart.
  • Completing all 30 bundles unlocks the abandoned JojaMart and its Missing Bundle, which rewards the Movie Theater.
