Genshin Impact: Great Expeditionist Challenge Guide & Rewards
In brief
The Grand Expedition Trial arrives on August 28 in Genshin Impact 7.0, offering a free Diona, a Crown of Insight, and four trials unlocked progressively until September 1. Be careful though: two Snezhnaya quests are mandatory to access it, and they'll block quite a few players on launch day.
HoYoverse released the presentation on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 of the Grand Adventurer's Trial, an event organized by the Adventurers' Guild in version 7.0 of Genshin Impact. It opens on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., server time, and closes on September 14, 2026 at 3:59 a.m.
The main reward is a character: "Diona · Kitty-Tail Cocktail (Cryo)", to be invited into the player's team by completing the challenges of the various trials. Primogems and a Crown of Insight are also included.
Three access requirements, including two quests
This is the point that will block the most people on opening day. HoYoverse lists three:
- Adventure Rank 20 or above.
- Complete the Archon Quest Prologue – Act III "Song of the Dragon and Freedom".
- Complete the quest "Gunfire in the Silent Lands", part of Archon Quest Chapter VII – Act I "Everwinter Without Mercy".
The third is the real barrier: it's a quest set in Snezhnaya, the region opened up by version 7.0. It's also the one that unlocks, in the base game, the Primordial Ice Constructs — and one of the four trials relies entirely on them. It's hard to skip.
HoYoverse adds a recommendation that is not a requirement: "it is recommended to first complete the Archon Quest Chapter VII – Act II "Wraith's Nocturne" to fully enjoy the event". This is the act that unlocks the third-person shooting mode — and, again, a trial builds on it.
The internal schedule: the event opens in three stages
An asterisk at the bottom of the announcement contains the most useful piece of information on the page:
"Event content will be unlocked progressively on August 28, 2026, August 30, 2026, and September 1, 2026."
In other words, a player who goes through the whole event on the morning of the 28th won't see everything. There are four trials announced but three unlock stages: the content is spread over the first five days. There's no need to jump to the conclusion that a trial is blocked by a hidden requirement.
The four trials
I. Precision Express Delivery
"Drive the train through wind and snow." Players pilot a train on Snezhnaya's rail network, playing with the gear ratio and the whistle. The driving instructions displayed by HoYoverse are, as they stand:
- shifting gears raises the engine temperature: this must be taken into account;
- shift up on uphill sections;
- control speed on downhill sections;
- watch out for speed-limited zones.
The engine temperature gauge is the element to keep an eye on: it's what turns aggressive driving into failure.
II. Snowball Domain Raid
"Steer the snowball and roll it to knock back enemies." The trial alternates between a battle phase and a snowball phase: players raise their Snowball Level through combat, then steer the snowball to sweep enemies away.
HoYoverse specifies that the trial is "tailored to your power level" — the difficulty adjusts accordingly, which places knowledge of the rules above the quality of one's roster.
III. Labyrinth of Frost and Foresight
“Observe the overall situation and help the jack frost plan their adventure route.” You build a path with Primordial Ice Constructs toward the destination of the waiting jack frost, confirm with "Act now", then activate the mechanisms in time while they move.
This is a planning challenge in two stages: nothing can be corrected once the jack frost are in motion, except through the mechanisms.
IV. Trigger reflex challenge
“Where the gaze lands, the shot follows.” You use firearms to hit as many targets as possible within the time allotted. The core mechanic is the Firing Flow state: reaching a certain number of points grants access to it, and it provides unlimited ammunition as well as points "considerably increased" for each eliminated target.
The strategic consequence is direct: the score isn't decided by regular play, it's decided by how quickly you trigger the Firing Flow and how long you maintain it.
The Adventurer Tournament Leaderboard
The four challenges feed into a challenge score that determines a position in the Adventurer Tournament Leaderboard. HoYoverse shows eight ranks, from 8th to 1st, with bronze, silver, and gold trophies for the podium.
Two practical rules follow from this:
- rewards are collected based on your current position — so you don't wait for the event to end to claim them;
- the ranking shows "your competitors' situation," which lets you aim for a specific rank rather than redoing a challenge blindly.
The plan for the first five days
- Before August 28 — check the two required quests. "Gunfire in the Silent Lands" is the one that must be completed; move on to "Wraith's Nocturne" if time allows.
- August 28, 10 a.m. — open the event, do what's available, and don't worry about missing content.
- August 30 and September 1 — check back: this is when the rest of the challenges open.
- Afterward — collect ranking rewards as you go, without waiting for September 14.
The names of challenges, quests, and items are copied from HoYoverse's official event page, including the spelling "jack frost," which the publisher writes this way in its own text.
