Cyberpunk 2077: Best Iconic Weapons Tier List (Patch 2.3)
In brief
The July 2026 patch 2.3 shakes up Cyberpunk 2077's weapon meta. Check out our ranking of the ten must-have iconic weapons, from Adam Smasher's Ba Xing Chong at the top to the Guillotine at the bottom of the list, with each entry's location, build synergies, and standing in light of the latest damage and balancing tweaks.
Six years after its release, Cyberpunk 2077 keeps evolving. Patch 2.3, rolled out in early July 2026, brings its share of weapon balance adjustments, a few discreet loot additions, and a partial overhaul of status damage that shakes up the meta. The perfect occasion to revisit our ranking of Iconic weapons, those unique pieces that often define a run's personality and a V's swagger. Here's our commented tier list of the ten must-have Iconics for summer 2026, with the pickup location, the build style that suits it best, and its rank in the current meta for each.

What an Iconic weapon changes in Night City
A useful reminder for newcomers: an Iconic weapon has one or more unique modifiers not found on standard loot. It can be upgraded through the five rarity tiers (common → legendary) at the crafting bench, provided you have the components and the Edgerunner Artisan perk. Since patch 2.0, every Iconic keeps pace with V's level as they progress, which makes farming them early much more worthwhile. Patch 2.3 goes even further: rebalanced Iconics now retain their relative DPS against overleveled enemies, a particularly welcome adjustment for weapons obtained very early in the game, like Dying Night or Skippy.
Our tier ranking methodology
The ranking relies on four weighted criteria: combat versatility (35%), synergy potential with at least two perk trees (25%), high-level DPS ceiling with a maximum stat check (25%), and originality of the gimmick (15%). We deliberately excluded Iconic melee weapons (Byakko Katana, Satori, Cocktail Stick…) for a future dedicated guide, and focused the selection on firearms, including new additions introduced since Phantom Liberty and patch 2.3.
#10 — Guillotine (Budget Arms SMG)
The Guillotine is a Power submachine gun belonging to Placide, stolen during Automatic Love and then I Walk the Line. Its signature trait: an insane fire rate coupled with a headshot damage bonus disguised as a simple modifier, which makes it fearsome the moment you line up a Voodoo Boy's skull at 15 meters. It earns a legitimate spot near the bottom of the tier list thanks to its near-zero recovery cost and its perfect fit with mobile hipfire-oriented Reflexes/Handguns builds. In patch 2.3, its stray bullets finally hit sliding ground targets correctly, a fix that's been long awaited.
#9 — Widow Maker
This Tech precision rifle belonging to Nash, recovered during the Ghost Town quest, channels two fearsome effects: stackable poison damage and increased armor penetration on charged shots. The Widow Maker crushes mid-range encounters and particularly shines on Intelligence/Netrunner builds that use it as a safety net between quickhacks. It drops a notch compared to 2.2, since the new Militech bulletproof vests introduced in patch 2.3 better absorb poison DoT, but it remains an excellent secondary build pillar.
#8 — Fenrir (Nekomata SMG)
Reward from the Life During Wartime quest after freeing Anthony Gilchrist, the Fenrir Tsunami turns every impact into thermal damage. Its ability to set an entire Maelstrom platoon on fire in a single burst makes it the signature weapon for pyromaniac Solo and Netrunner builds that exploit Overheat → Fire → Short Circuit combos. The 2.3 adjustment to ignition duration (~-8%) drops it a rank, but its sheer fun factor remains unmatched when you want to watch Night City burn.

#7 — Yinglong (Militech Smart SMG)
Introduced with the Phantom Liberty expansion, the Yinglong is a Smart SMG dropped by Colonel Hansen at the end of the Firestarter questline. It stands out for its "Overcharge" mechanic: holding down the trigger increases electrical damage and projectile speed as the bar fills up. Excellent for hybrid Netrunners who want to chain a System Reset and finish off the target without needing to top up on RAM. The 2.3 tuning to maximum fire rate (slightly trimmed) is offset by improved lock-on against targets tagged by an active Sandevistan — the Smart + Sandy pairing has never been this clean.
#6 — Prejudice
A Power assault rifle belonging to Kurt Hansen, also obtained at the end of Firestarter if you turn down the deal on offer. Prejudice fires remarkably accurate three-round bursts, with a growing damage bonus against marked targets. It's the ideal weapon for Reflexes/Assault builds that favor controlled tempo, without a runaway DPS spike but with surgical consistency. Its ranking stays flat in patch 2.3, which, given the general reshuffling, amounts to a relative mini-buff.
#5 — Kongou (Arasaka Power Pistol)
Oda's heavy pistol, recoverable during Play It Safe or after the final confrontation depending on your choices, remains a safe bet. Kongou combines a guaranteed ricochet off hard surfaces with a critical damage bonus, making it an ideal companion for Cool/Corpo-adjacent builds. The headshot damage overhaul in patch 2.3 benefits it particularly: well-placed, a fully-modded Kongou can obliterate a standard Cyberpsycho with a single magazine. The only downside is the return of an old audio bug on reload that was fixed and then reintroduced.
#4 — Skippy (Techtronika Smart Pistol)
The game's unwitting star. Found in an alley in Vista del Rey, Skippy talks, sings, cracks jokes, and above all chooses its own firing mode: Sweet Dreams (automatic headshots) or Puppy Nap Time (body shots that non-lethally incapacitate targets). After 50 kills, it locks its mode permanently — the famous dilemma of the dilemma. Patch 2.3 finally fixes the return of Regina Jones for the hidden quest tied to it: bring Skippy back to Regina and receive a bonus cyberware (new in 2.3). Its unhinged personality and versatility earn it a top spot in our top 5, no matter your build.
#3 — Comrade's Hammer
A masterpiece of Soviet-futuristic brutality: this Power revolver fires one explosive round per shot, with a reload cooldown worthy of a rocket launcher. Recoverable during Riders on the Storm when rescuing Saul, the Comrade's Hammer turns even the slightest well-placed shot into a festive oneshot on Wraith mercenaries. It climbs onto the podium because it adapts to three distinct schools: the Perception sniper, the Body tank, and the Reflexes assailant who uses it as a finisher. Best handled with quick reloads so you don't run dry mid-rush.

#2 — Malorian Arms 3516 (Johnny Silverhand's pistol)
Johnny's signature weapon, obtained at the end of Chippin' In. The Malorian Arms 3516 is a semi-auto Power pistol with demonic recoil, rounds loaded with critical bonuses, and the world's only ability to ricochet its shots in a ballistically improbable way. As much a symbol as a weapon, it remains at the top of iconic pistols thanks to its perfect synergy with Reflexes/Cool builds and Sandevistan slow-mo. Patch 2.3 also restores its exclusive Rockerboy skin in the inspection selector — a nice touch.
#1 — Ba Xing Chong (Smart shotgun)
In first place, Adam Smasher's weapon, recoverable in the ultra-lethal ending of Totalimmortal. The Ba Xing Chong fires homing projectiles capable of killing three enemies at once from any position. Its ability to one-shot Cyberpsychos, wipe out a squad in a single shot, and fit any Body / Assault / hybrid Netrunner build makes it the most rewarding iconic in the game. Its only drawback is its extremely late availability, which pushes many players to start an NG+ just to enjoy it from the start.
Special mentions and new additions from patch 2.3
- Nazaré Itsumade (new in 2.3) — this iconic variant of the Nazaré moto-rifle acts as a light rifle, added with the patch's small narrative content. It releases a short-range electric cone when fired while standing still, a fun but ultimately anecdotal gadget for the meta.
- Erebus — technically a cyberdeck, often mistakenly listed in weapon guides. Its mention remains essential: it allows channeling quickhacks with virtually zero RAM cost, unlocking the game's most toxic combos and perfectly complementing a physical damage iconic.
- Rara Avis — a unique reward tied to an Ex-Disk gig contract, this weapon remains reserved for collectors. Pinpoint accuracy, modest DPS: perfect for corporate roleplay but outclassed by Prejudice and Yinglong in the meta.
- Dying Night — the pistol given by Wilson right from the prologue deserves a mention for its consistency: it's the iconic you carry from level 3 to level 60. Ideal as a budget second slot.
- Overwatch — the suppressed precision rifle given by Panam. Its OSK on unconscious enemies' necks makes it the dream companion for any Cool/Reflexes stealth run.
- Divided We Stand — a Power assault rifle with a contagious poison modifier, dropped by a Barghest in Dogtown. A notch below Prejudice as of patch 2.3, but still viable.

Three builds to get the most out of your iconics
An iconic is only truly fearsome when paired with the right combination of perks and cyberware. Here are three combos proven effective as of patch 2.3.
- Hybrid Sandy Netrunner — Yinglong + Militech Falcon Sandevistan + Erebus cyberdeck. You lock on with a System Reset, activate the Sandy, and empty the clip in Smart fire while time freezes. Fearsome solo, even more so in the dense zones of Dogtown raids.
- Corp Solo brutality — Comrade's Hammer + Ba Xing Chong as a swap + Militech Apogee Berserk. You stay in melee range, tank the hits, and blow away half a squad in one pass. Simple, dirty, effective.
- Silent ninja reflexes — Overwatch + Malorian 3516 + level 5 Kerenzikov. You clear rooftops with the rifle, drop into the Kerenzikov, and finish off with the Malorian. Style over score.

Our tips for building a run around an iconic
- Choose early. An iconic picked up at level 15 will stay with you for 40 hours: it's better to aim for the one that fits your playstyle fantasy than to chase the absolute meta.
- Invest in legendary components from the midgame onward: crafting at higher rarity is what ensures your iconic doesn't become obsolete against endgame enemies.
- Sync with your cyberware. A Sandevistan for a Smart weapon, a Berserk for heavy Power weapons, an optical Reboot for stealth builds: every weapon family finds its match in a specific cyberware class.
- Don't sleep on clothing mods. The Crunch (physical damage) and Pacifier (silencer) slots remain, as of patch 2.3, the mods offering the best power-to-cost ratio for extending an iconic's lifespan.
- Replay in NG+. Patch 2.3 finally stabilizes NG+ inventory carryover: this is THE moment to start your second run with the Ba Xing Chong right out of the prologue.
Verdict
Patch 2.3 doesn't overhaul the hierarchy established since Phantom Liberty, but it polishes a few major annoyances and breathes new life into historic iconics like Dying Night and Kongou. Our top 10 combines gameplay enjoyment, stat efficiency, and narrative weight — because in Cyberpunk 2077, a good weapon always tells a story. For your next run, choose the one that suits you: Adam Smasher doesn't have to remain Night City's only armed nightmare.
