Chief's Chronicles Guide: Clash of Clans Statues Explained

Supercell has launched a new feature unlike anything Clash of Clans has offered before: the Chief's Chronicles, an annual retrospective of your village, available from August 8 at 8 a.m. UTC to August 31.

This is neither a combat event nor a classic reward track. It's a guided tour of your own stats, ending with a personalized statue — and it will disappear at the end of the month. Here's how not to miss it.

Where to find it

This is the first sticking point, because it doesn't appear in the usual events menu. You need to look for the Chief's Chronicles shield, placed near the trader in your village.

Once there, you enter a museum-like experience, built from your own data from the past year.

The three ways to reveal your stats

This is what makes the whole thing more interactive than a simple year-end summary. Three mechanics coexist, and you choose which one to use:

• Guess — you answer multiple-choice questions about your own history. This is the most fun mechanic, and the most humbling: few players correctly guess their most-used troop.
• Smash — you break obstacles to reveal the stat hidden behind them. The most true-to-the-game's-spirit way of checking a number.
• Reveal — you discover the information directly, no detours. This is the option to go for if you just want to browse through everything quickly.

The stats are organized into categories: your armies, your clan and your battles. There's no obligation to do everything at once, and nothing is lost if you leave partway through — but the whole thing closes for good on the 31st.

The six archetypes, and the statue

This is the tangible reward of the whole process. At the end of the journey, the game assigns you a chief archetype, and you receive the corresponding personalized statue for your village.

Six archetypes are possible:

• Solo
• War
• Clan
• Loyal
• Returning
• New

The archetype isn't chosen: it stems from how you've played over the year. A player who has chained together clan wars won't get the same statue as a player who came back after a long break — hence the Returning and New categories, which reward profiles the game usually overlooks.

Once the archetype is assigned, you can share it by pressing the central flag, with the display settings of your choice.

A useful correction on the dates

Several English-language reports announce a launch on August 6. Supercell's official French-language blog, however, states in black and white that the Chief's Chronicles are available "from August 8 at 8 a.m. UTC to August 31". This is the version that stands as accurate.

Similarly, the idea of a breakdown into four chapters is circulating widely. It doesn't appear in the official communication, which describes freely browsable categories, not a linear progression through chapters. The nuance matters: you don't have to unlock anything in order.

The rest of the month, at a glance

The Chronicles are just one piece of a particularly packed August. To help you get organized:

• The amazing medals event runs from August 12 at 8:00 UTC to August 31 at 8:00 UTC. Its shop, however, stays open until September 2 at 8:00 UTC — a nuance worth knowing, as it gives you two extra days to spend your medals after the event ends.
• The elephant rider, a temporary troop from the Supercell Make campaign, accompanies the event.
• The revenge deck of the Dragon Duke gets an equipment boost from August 26 to 31.
• Rewards include epic equipment, the card flipper super decoration, ores, potions, books, runes, and home village decorations.

In other words: two deadlines on August 31, but only one that leaves a grace period. The Chief's Chronicles, on the other hand, close abruptly.

What order to tackle things in

A simple plan for the rest of the month:

1. Do the Chief's Chronicles first. They require no resources or attacks, take just a few minutes, and are the only thing this month that can't be made up for in any other way.
2. Save your upgrades for the medals event, which rewards books and runes — meaning saved build time.
3. Don't empty your medals shop before the 31st. Since it stays open until September 2, there's no rush, and the last two days let you adjust based on what you actually still need.

A note on terminology

Machine translations wreak havoc on this game, and it's worth recalling a few labels from the French client. The trader is called the négociant, not the « commerçant ». The secondary base is the builder base's base des ouvriers, never the « base du constructeur ». The subscription is the Pass or, not the « Pass d'or ». And the new season defenses are called défenses assemblées, not « défenses fabriquées ».

Finally, if you come across troop names like « Lança-bolos » or « Exterminatrice de Héros », you're looking at a machine translation from Portuguese or English. The official names are the catapulte explosive, the éradicateur de héros, and the bougie incandescente.
