Clash of Clans: the John Cena Challenge — a contract, 24-hour access, and 2 stars for Cody's Call

There exists in Clash of Clans an item without which the most hotly contested event of September 2026 remains locked: the challenger contract. Only this item unlocks the John Cena Challenge, a unique base available from Tuesday, September 1st to Wednesday, September 30th, 2026, throughout the "WWE: The Hunt for Cena!" season. The publisher states it plainly — "Without a contract, you can't go for the title."

The official post on Supercell's French blog, published Tuesday, September 1st, 2026 at 8:00 UTC, i.e. 10:00 a.m. in Paris (this is our conversion, the publisher does not publish a local time), devotes four sentences to the challenge and one paragraph to how to access it. That is all that has been written on the subject. We reopened this page and its English twin: on one specific point, they don't say the same thing, and it's the French version that loses a piece of information.

The official paragraph, in full

Under the heading "September 1st to 30th: John Cena Challenge," the French blog writes this, and nothing else:

"To become a legend, you must beat a legend! Collect challenger contracts from special event chests throughout the season and try your luck against the base of the untraceable superstar! Each contract grants you access for 24 hours, with a chance to get the Cody's Callout decoration. You only need to manage 2 stars to nab the deco, but those who destroy the base the fastest will join the global leaderboard, with special prizes for the champions!"

Four sentences, two unrelated objectives, one entry currency, one duration — and an ambiguity that Supercell has not clarified in either of its two languages.

Two stars for the decoration, the clock for the leaderboard

The first objective is a threshold, and it's a low one: "You only need to manage 2 stars to nab the deco." No line in the post requires three stars for Cody's Callout, and none announces a bonus if you get them. For the decoration, 2 stars therefore count as a perfect attack.

The second objective is a clock, and it's no longer measured in stars: "Those who destroy the base the fastest will join the global leaderboard, with special prizes for the champions." The publisher does not disclose the number of spots, the time to aim for, or the list of prizes.

What remains is the ambiguity, and it concerns the heart of the matter. The same sentence first promises "a chance to get the Cody's Callout decoration," then states that 2 stars are enough to "nab" it. A chance, or a guarantee? To settle this, we went to read the English edition of the post: it says exactly the same thing, "a chance to grab the Cody's Callout decoration," then "You only need to manage 2 stars to nab the deco." The wavering is in the original text, not in its translation, and the publisher does not settle it.

Challenger contracts only drop from WWE chests

The post acknowledges only one source: "Collect challenger contracts from special event chests." The line devoted to these chests is more precise, and names two events specifically:

"Special WWE chests will appear throughout the month, especially during the Money in the Bank Race and the WWE Gear Blast, but also elsewhere."

Mapped onto a calendar, this results in three very uneven schedules.

The trap lies in the first two rows, and it's worth remembering for the rest of the season: this clan event had two separate windows, not one. The one where you play closed on Saturday, September 5, 2026; the one where you cash in lasted one day longer, "solely to claim your rewards." Filling your clan's shared path without claiming your chests meant losing your contracts.

What remains is a single major dated deadline: the WWE Gear Blast, from Wednesday, September 9 to Tuesday, September 22, 2026. The publisher's "but also elsewhere" hints at other occasions, but none is dated: impossible to plan around them.

What the announcement doesn't say anywhere

The list is long, and it explains why no honest guide can promise you Cody's Call on a fixed date.

• The number of contracts available. No appearance rate in the chests, no cap per player, no guarantee of seeing even one over the month.
• The number of attacks per contract. "Each contract buys you 24 hours of access" describes a duration, not a quota of attempts; the French says the same. Nothing confirms you can retry, nor the opposite.
• The starting point of the 24 hours. When the chest is opened, or when the contract is activated? The stakes are concrete: if the countdown starts on its own, opening your chests the day before two days away is equivalent to throwing the contract away.
• The town hall threshold. Two other events this month specify "for everyone from Town Hall 8." The challenge itself shows no access condition — which doesn't prove it has none.
• The base itself. No level, no layout, no screenshot, and not the slightest switch time: as with the entire season calendar, the publisher only gives days. The army compositions circulating on English-language sites don't come from any of its pages, and we don't repeat them.

An epic gear item evaporates in the French version

The contents of the WWE Chests aren't described the same way in both languages. The French version lists "ores, magic snacks, event medals, WWE decorations, epic gear, old Gold Pass skins, and the challenger contracts needed to find Cena's base" — with this grammatical error, exactly as it appears on the official page.

The English version, in the same spot of the same list, writes "the Action Figure Epic Equipment": a single unique epic gear item, referred to by its name. The generic French plural erased this name. We do not translate it: neither the French season pass listing, nor the update notes from Monday, August 31, 2026, which we opened, publish a French label for this item.

Second discrepancy, on the end-of-track reward for the Money in the Bank Race: the French version announces the “Champion Belt decoration”, the English one “the Money in the Bank Title decoration”. Two names, not two phrasings.

What you need to remember

The John Cena Challenge is a two-speed objective. For the Cody's Call decoration, the stated bar is low — 2 stars — and the real obstacle isn't the base: it's having a Challenger Contract in hand at the right time. For the world ranking, the bar remains unknown, since no reference time has been published.

For the rest of the month, only one dated window announces WWE Chests in numbers: the WWE Equipment Blast, from Wednesday, September 9 to Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Chain your Home Village battles during these fourteen days, only open your chests when you're sure you can play within the following 24 hours, and aim for 2 stars rather than perfection: that's the threshold the publisher has written. The season closes on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, and the challenge disappears with it.
