WoW Midnight: the weekend gear checklist to reach 273 item level before the Venomous Abyss

In brief

You have until Tuesday evening to reach 273 item level before the Venomous Abyss opens on Wednesday. Mythic 0 resets every day and remains your best source of loot (292), supplemented by Delves and the Tidal Marsh Hideout in world mode.

The “Venomous Abyss” raid opens Wednesday, August 19, and the Raid Finder requires an item level of 273 to let you through the door. That's the only number that matters between now and Tuesday night: everything you run this weekend should go toward clearing that threshold, not toward polishing a secondary stat.

The good news is that the tracks already open this Saturday, August 15, deliver noticeably better than 273. Mythic 0 drops 292 and, more importantly, it resets every day: it's the only source this weekend that you can run again Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The Delves fill in the stubborn slots, and the “Tidal Cave Lair” is living out its last weekend as a world-mode encounter before it too switches over on August 19.

We've already covered the raid's 8 bosses and the schedule of its four wings elsewhere: here, we're only talking about gear.

273 is a floor, not a goal: every track this weekend beats it

The minimum item level required by the Raid Finder is set at 273, the official figure. So you don't need any high-end content to reach it: the activities available as of today hand out between 266 and 308 depending on the chosen difficulty.

The practical consequence is simple. Your problem isn't the power of the rewards, it's their distribution. An average item level is calculated across all your gear slots: three forgotten low-level pieces are enough to keep you stuck below 273 even though the rest of your character is well above. The method that follows is therefore about targeting the slots that are lagging behind rather than repeating the same dungeon on loop.

Mythic 0 resets every day: it's your best bet until Tuesday

Mythic 0 rewards 292, 19 points above the Raid Finder threshold. Its real strength, though, lies elsewhere: unlike the usual weekly lockouts, it resets daily. Over the window you have left, that's four possible full runs.

  • Saturday the 15th, Sunday the 16th, Monday the 17th, and Tuesday, August 18: one reset per day, so four rounds of loot on the same character.
  • 292 per piece, which immediately bumps up any slot left behind since Season 1.
  • No key requirement, no keystone to consume: it's the most forgiving track for groups thrown together on the fly.

If there's only one line from this checklist you should remember, it's this one, and every day. The season's loot pool notably includes “the Altar of Hooks” and the “Vaults of Atal'utek.”

Delves fill in the slots that Mythic 0 refuses to give up

Delves are the fallback option when a slot stubbornly refuses to drop anything. They run in the “Depths of Venomfall,” the “Arena of Glory,” and on “Twistmoor Isle.” Item levels by tier:

  • Tiers 1 through 4: 266 to 276, Adventurer quality.
  • Tiers 5 and 6: 279 to 282, Veteran quality.
  • Tier 7 and beyond: 292 to 295, Champion quality.

Remember the pacing: tiers 1 to 4 won't get you past 273 on their own, since their range starts below the threshold. It's tiers 5 and 6 that start to be worthwhile, and tiers 7 and up that rival Mythic 0. Note for later: Abundant Delves, from tier 7 onward, only arrive on August 19. The « Mist Coins » accumulated along the way will remain useful once Season 2 launches.

The Tidal Cavern Lair leaves world mode on Wednesday: it's this weekend or never

This is the line on your checklist with an expiration date. The « Tidal Cavern Lair », where you face Nymrissa Wave-Bringer, is still in world mode this week and rewards 279. On August 19, it switches to the standard tier grid: 292 on normal, 305 on heroic, 318 on mythic.

279 isn't spectacular, but it clears the threshold and can be obtained without an organized group. We dedicated a complete guide to this Lair in early August: keep just one idea in mind here—do it before Tuesday night.

Mythic+ only matters if you're already above the threshold

If your character has passed 273 without much effort, Mythic+ becomes the densest pathway. The reward grid is as follows:

  • +2 and +3: 295
  • +4: 298
  • +5 to +7: 302
  • +8 and +9: 305
  • +10: 308

A note on terminology, so you don't search in vain: Blizzard has not published English labels for the new Season 2 Mythic+ affixes. We are therefore not translating them, and we advise against relying on a homemade translation that won't match anything in your interface.

The battle plan, from this Saturday to Tuesday night

Saturday, August 15

Mythic 0 as a priority, then the Tidal Cavern Lair while it's still in world mode. Take stock of your weakest slots before launching anything: this is what will determine your targets for the following three days.

Sunday, August 16

Second Mythic 0 run thanks to the daily reset, then Delves at tiers 5 and 6 at minimum, to stay above the threshold.

Monday, August 17

Third Mythic 0. If you've crossed 273, switch to Mythic+ starting at +5, whose range starts at 302.

Tuesday, August 18

Last Mythic 0 before launch, last window for the Lair in world mode, and final check of your average item level. Anything not done by Tuesday night won't be doable under the same conditions afterward.

First check the hotfixes from August 13 and 14

Two rounds of hotfixes dropped on August 13 and 14, and one of them directly concerns you if you're stuck on a prerequisite. They include a catch-up fix for « The Empty Cradle » and remind that Midnight's main campaign must be completed before starting the Curse of Ula'tek campaign. Better to sort that out on Saturday rather than at 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

What awaits you once you've crossed 273

On Wednesday, August 19, the Venomous Abyss opens on normal, heroic, and mythic, accompanied by the first wing of the Raid Finder, « The Tangleflames ». On mythic, the first six bosses drop gear from 318 to 324, and the last two—« the Ringed Altar » then Ula'tek—go up to 344.

The same day also opens Season 2 of Mythic+ dungeons, PvP Season 2, Abundant Delves at tier 7 and above, and the Hunt in Nightmare mode with the Curse of the Isle. August 19 isn't just the raid's launch date: it's the moment when all your pathways shift to a new scale.

Key dates to remember

  • Until Tuesday, August 18 in the evening: Mythic 0 reset daily (292) and Tidal Refuge Lair in world mode (279).
  • Goal to maintain: item level 273, the minimum required by the Raid Finder.
  • Wednesday, August 19: opening of the Venomous Abyss, the "The Entortillames" wing, Season 2 Mythic+ and PvP, Abundant Gorges, and the Hunt in Nightmare mode.

Your strategy between now and Tuesday evening: massive Mythic 0 farming or a balance with Delves?

Frequently asked questions

Will 273 be enough to survive in the Venomous Abyss?
That's the strict minimum required by the Raid Finder tool, so yes, you'll get through the door. After that, it's a question of which difficulty you choose: on Normal, it's plenty; on Heroic or Mythic, every point counts. Ideally, aim for a few points above that if you can.
Why does Mythic 0 reset every day instead of once a week?
It's an exception for the start of the patch. Blizzard is giving this window to let as many players as possible reach the raid's entry threshold without having to tackle demanding content. Once Season 2 settles in, the lockout will go back to the usual weekly reset.
I have slots stuck at low item level: should I leave them or farm a specific dungeon?
Skip the targeted farming: it's time-consuming and depends on loot luck. Run Mythic 0s and Delve tiers 5 through 7, which cover every slot. If something's still stubborn by Tuesday evening, it doesn't matter anymore — you're at the threshold.
Should I spend the Mist Sigils I've stockpiled from Delves before Wednesday?
No, leave them alone. They'll still be useful once Season 2 launches and the Delve scaling changes. You'll spend them more wisely after August 19.
What if I'm already above 273 by Wednesday morning?
Switch over to Mythic+ starting at +5 if you want to keep progressing before the raid opens. Otherwise, jump into Normal or Heroic to check out the Venomous Abyss without pressure, then move up in difficulty once you're familiar with it.

Key takeaways

  • Mythic 0 resets daily until Tuesday: four full runs at 292 item level is your top priority.
  • Target your lagging slots rather than repeating the same content over and over: three weak pieces of gear will drag down your entire average.
  • The Tidal Marsh Hideout leaves world mode on Wednesday: it's this weekend or never for its 279 gear without an organized group.
  • Delve tiers 5 and 6 fill in the gaps left by Mythic 0, but wait for tier 7 to compete with the 292 gear.
  • Check the August 13 and 14 hotfixes before diving in: some requirements have changed and could block you on Saturday.
