Windrose: The 2026 Alchemy Guide — Level 4 Alchemy Table, Elixirs and Potions
In brief
Windrose's alchemy is far more powerful than it seems: elixirs offer massive numerical bonuses (up to +30% critical damage) that stack with your equipment. This guide breaks down the Alchemy Table's progression from level 1 to level 4, the essential recipes, the ingredients to search for, and those to buy from the merchant.
Alchemy is the most overlooked crafting station in Windrose, and that's a miscalculation. With identical gear, a pirate who walks into a boss arena with an Elixir of Focus and a Elixir of Steady Hand active hits noticeably harder than one who simply upgraded their cutlass. The bonuses are quantified, they stack onto your build, and they cost a handful of plants picked up along the way.
The game does a very poor job explaining two things: how to level up the Alchemy Table, and which ingredients unlock which recipes. This guide covers the whole chain, from the first Misty Orchid picked at night to the level 4 infused elixirs, including recipes, drop rates, and vendor prices.
Everything below applies to version 0.10.0.8, the latest patch released by Kraken Express on July 8, 2026: none of the last three patches touched recipes or crafting stations.
Unlocking Alchemy: the Misty Orchid above all
The Alchemy Table won't appear in the building menu until you trigger the Basic Alchemy discovery. It's obtained by picking a Misty Orchid, a plant found in the Coastal Jungle. Four details that the tooltip provides and that almost everyone skims past:
- it blooms at night and almost never shows up in broad daylight;
- it's found near ruins;
- it emits a sound: turn down the music and you'll locate it by ear before you see it;
- it does not grow in the Foothills, so there's no point climbing up there looking for it.
The same discovery unlocks the Clay Pot, a real starting toll: the Alchemy Table costs Wood x5 and Clay Pot x2, and each pot is crafted at the Workbench for Clay x6. So budget twelve clay, gathered on the beaches of the Coastal Jungle or bought for 10 piastres each from the natural resources merchant. Two placement requirements, spelled out clearly in the tooltip: the table needs a roof and only works within range of the Campfire. A canopy on four posts, set right next to the fire, is enough.
The table's four levels and the three upgrades
Every recipe shows a required station level. Your table's level is shown on the small numbered badge to the right of its name at the top of the crafting interface. A bare table is level 1. To level it up, you don't replace it: you build a dedicated upgrade next to it, within the same Campfire radius, and the table gains a level. Alchemy has three of these, and you need all three to reach level 4.
| Upgrade | Build cost | Unlocked by |
|---|---|---|
| Stove and Cauldron | Stone x5, Clay x5, Copper Pot x1 | Basic Alchemy (Misty Orchid, Coastal Jungle) |
| Reagent Table | Hardwood x5, Rum Bottle x2, Silver Ingot x2, Sulfur x2, Iron Utensils x1 | Iron Tools discovery (Foothills Iron Ore) |
| Distiller | Marsh Iron Ingot x5, Wood x5, Crocodile Hide Piece x2 | Advanced Alchemy (Bromeliads, Cursed Marshes) |
The Pot and Pan is the one that brings the table to level 2; it's also the cheapest and the only one available right from the Coastal Jungle. The Distiller will in practice be the last one placed, since it requires a discovery that can only be made in the Cursed Marshes. Direct consequence: level 4 recipes, meaning the four infused elixirs and the Greater Healing Potion, stay locked until you've set foot in the marsh.

The base chain: Clay Bottle, Alchemical Base... and Tannin
Two level 1 recipes shape the rest of the tree:
- Clay Bottle — Clay x1. The container for all decoctions.
- Alchemical Base — Clay Bottle x1 + Misty Orchid x1. It goes into eight of the table's recipes, stacks up to 40, and weighs nothing.
Remember the ratio: one orchid gives one base, one base gives one potion. Cross the jungle at night picking everything up, that's the only real bottleneck in alchemy.
A detail many miss: the table also works as a tannery. Tannin (Clay Bottle x1 + Tree Bark x2), extracted from divi-divi bark, is what turns hides into Tanned Leather. If you're stuck on leather for your backpacks and armor, the fix is here, not at the Workbench.
The three healing potions, and the bandage everyone forgets
| Heal | Level required | Recipe | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minor Healing Potion | 1 | Alchemical Base x1 | Restores 35% HP, instant |
| Healing Potion | 2 | Alchemical Base x1 + Medicinal Herbs x3, or Alchemical Base x1 + Undead Essence x2 | Restores 55% HP, instant |
| Greater Healing Potion | 4 | Healing Potion x2 + Tear of Sorrow x1 | Restores 80% HP, instant |
| Bandage (at the Workbench) | — | Coarse Cloth x1 | 900 HP over 30 s, canceled if you take a hit |
The dual recipe for the Healing Potion is the pleasant surprise here: without Medicinal Herbs, two Undead Essences do the same job. Drowned enemies and undead drop them continuously in the Coastal Jungle, and the boss Israel Hands offers up a big batch at once.
The Bandage, meanwhile, isn't an alchemy item but a Workbench one, needing just a simple Coarse Cloth. It restores 900 HP over 30 seconds, but the slightest hit taken interrupts the effect: it's a post-combat heal, never a boss heal.
The five combat elixirs
| Elixir | Level | Recipe | Effect (15 min) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elixir of Cruelty | 2 | Alchemical Base x1, Boar Bust x1, Pearl x1 | +8% damage |
| Elixir of Focus | 3 | Alchemical Base x1, Bezoar x1, Aloe Leaf x2 | +30% critical damage |
| Elixir of Steady Hand | 3 | Alchemical Base x1, Bromeliad x3, Firefly x5 | +13% melee damage |
| Elixir of Precision | 3 | Alchemical Base x1, Mountain Goat Horn x1, Wolf Fang x1 | +13% ranged damage |
| Elixir of Pain Relief | 3 | Alchemical Base x1, Bezoar x1, Aloe Leaf x3 | +15% damage resistance |
The ranking is quickly done. The Elixir of Focus and its +30% critical damage is by far the most cost-effective as soon as your gear pushes your critical rate up. Otherwise, you choose based on the weapon you're wielding: Steady Hand for a saber or a halberd, Precision for pistols and the musket, the Elixir of Cruelty as a safety net since it affects all damage types.
The Elixir of Pain Relief is the only defensive one, and the only one without an infused version. It shares its recipe with the Elixir of Focus, save for one aloe leaf: a trip to the Foothills to gather bezoar stocks both potions at once.
Infused elixirs: 30 minutes and zero weight
At level 4, four of the five elixirs come in an infused version, following a single recipe identical for all of them: the relevant elixir x1 + Bromeliad x3 + Tear of Sorrow x2. The gain isn't in power — the percentages don't move an inch — but in duration, which goes from 15 to 30 minutes. On a sea expedition or a string of ruins, that's one sip instead of three.
A second, less visible advantage: the infused version weighs 0.0 versus 0.2 for the regular version. A stack of ten infused elixirs therefore costs nothing in terms of encumbrance, which changes everything when you plan on coming back loaded down.
The toll is called Tear of Sorrow and it's paid in the Cursed Marshes: in bundles of 5 to 12 from Infected Grinders and Infected Berserkers, singly but guaranteed from Infected Warriors, Infected Witches and Infected Thralls. Clearing a single infected camp leaves you with enough to infuse about ten elixirs and craft your Greater Potions right after.
Where to find each ingredient, and which ones to buy
Most ingredients come from hunting and looting: you'll accumulate them simply by playing normally.
- Coastal Jungle — Misty Orchid, Clay, Medicinal Herbs (ancient chests in ruins, infected hunters and thralls), Undead Essence (drowned ones, drowned armorers, undead), Pearl.
- Foothills — Bezoar (guaranteed from goats, 30% from billy goats), Mountain Goat Horn (two guaranteed from the Alpha Billy Goat), Wolf Fang (two guaranteed from the Alpha Wolf, 30% from regular wolves), Aloe Leaf, Coffee Beans.
- Cursed Marshes — Bromeliad (in the Infected Ruins), Firefly, Tear of Sorrow.
Two storage traps. The Pearl is filed under the Ammunition tab, not resources: you get it out of scallop shells, and drowned enemies drop one one time in three. The Boar Bust — that really is the confusing French label for the boar tusk — drops in pairs for sure from the Wild Boar, and only one time in three from ordinary boars.

If you'd rather pay than farm: Bezoar, Wolf Fang, Mountain Goat Horn and Boar Bust at 40 piastres each from the animal goods merchant, Aloe Leaf at 25 piastres from the food merchant, Brandy, Madeira and Whisky at 10 piastres from the provisions trader of the Brotherhood of the Coast, who also sells coffee at 3 piastres.
The three grogs, the naval side of the Alchemy Table
It's consistently overlooked: the table also prepares the crew's rations, available from level 2 onward and active for 30 minutes each.
- Armory Grog — Bottle of Rum x4, Whisky x2, Cayenne Pepper x3: +15% reload speed.
- Sharpshooter's Grog — Bottle of Rum x4, Madeira x2, Coffee Beans x1: +15% damage.
- Hard Grog — Bottle of Rum x4, Brandy x2, Lime x3: +15% damage resistance.
Four bottles of rum per batch, that's the real cost. Rum is picked up from pirates and from the supply caches at Blackbeard's outposts; imported spirits only come from the Brotherhood of the Coast or from those same caches. So you prepare your grogs on the way back from a raid, not before setting out.
Homeward Bound, the underrated shortcut
One last useful recipe, also unlocked at level 2: Homeward Bound (Alchemy Base x3, Bottle of Rum x1, Feather x5, Undead Essence x1) instantly sends you back to your last resurrection point. Three alchemy bases is a steep price, but it's a guaranteed one-way ticket when a ship sinks far from any friendly shore, or when a full inventory strands you on the other side of the archipelago.
The routine to apply before a boss
The order that works when you're heading off to fight a boss or clear out a temple:
- drink your elixirs at camp, not right in front of the arena: 15 minutes (30 for an infused one) cover the approach, and you won't be digging through your inventory under fire;
- two offensive buffs at most: Concentration plus the elixir matching your main weapon, no need to stack four vials;
- one defensive buff if the boss hits hard: Pain Relief and its +15% resistance;
- on the quick bar: two Greater Healing Potions at level 4, otherwise four Healing Potions, plus a stack of bandages for after the fight.
One last note of caution: the French tooltips nowhere indicate whether damage bonuses stack with one another, and no official source settles the question. Test it on a boar before a big fight rather than trusting the tables circulating online.
There remains the question of investment, especially since the July 1st devblog devoted to Ashlands announces a fourth volcanic biome and new factions without a release window. Until then, the five elixirs and the three grogs remain Windrose's only lever of power that depends neither on your level nor on your loot luck: only on what you've taken the trouble to gather along the way.
