In brief

TennoCon 2026 revealed Warframe's most ambitious roadmap yet: two major updates (Iceblade of Narin in fall, Warframe: Tau in late 2026), two new Warframes, an ice-themed one and a detective one, the long-awaited Banshee rework, and above all the grand journey to the Tau system that Digital Extremes has been promising since the game's launch. Between new Prime weapons, a card mini-game, and narrative bosses, it's a heavy lineup through the end of the year.

On July 11, 2026, TennoCon once again set up shop in London, Ontario, and Digital Extremes delivered the densest Warframe conference in its history. The Canadian studio unveiled the entire roadmap for the rest of the year: two major updates — Iceblade of Narin this fall, then Warframe: Tau later in 2026 — two new Warframes, a brand-new solar system, the long-awaited Banshee rework, Citrine Prime, a card mini-game called Portau, a Fortnite crossover, and a full Nightwave overhaul. Since Jade Shadows: Constellations (June 2026), this is the biggest batch of announcements laid on the table. This guide goes point by point through what's coming, what to farm before it arrives, and what to take away from the TennoLive reveals.

What TennoCon 2026 announced — the full recap

TennoCon 2026 had two main highlights. The morning Devstream detailed the fall update, and the afternoon TennoLive lifted the veil on the year-end narrative expansion. The headline breaks down into three big buckets:

  • Iceblade of Narin — fall 2026 update. The 66th Warframe, Narin, ice-themed; Citrine Prime Access; Banshee's first Deluxe Collection since 2016, paired with a rework of her kit; a Qorvex Deluxe Collection; an announced but as-yet-unnamed rework; and two new Prime weapons.
  • Warframe: Tau — late 2026 narrative expansion. A new solar system orbiting a binary star, a new Star Chart, the detective Warframe Brysko, a Nightwave system overhaul called Shockwave, a card mini-game called Portau, a brand-new boss — The Hunra — and a new enemy faction, the Fornax Drowners.
  • Crossover and goodies — an Excalibur skin for Fortnite, a western-themed Mesa Heirloom Collection, and a new Devstream scheduled for September 4, 2026 to detail Iceblade of Narin ahead of its release.

Digital Extremes also confirmed that Tau will remain free-to-play like the rest of the game, with no paid DLC required to access it.

Iceblade of Narin: the fall update

The late-2026 update is thus called Iceblade of Narin. It's the one that will hold the fort between September and Tau's arrival later in the year. It serves as a narrative bridge to the expansion and packs in a very large amount of content.

Narin, the 66th Warframe

Narin is a purely ice-themed Warframe. Since Frost over ten years ago, no Warframe had occupied this niche — the classic elementals have always resurfaced elsewhere (Gauss for speed, Gyre for lightning, Xaku for void, Volt for electricity). Narin changes that: it's the first strictly ice-themed Warframe since Frost Prime, with a kit built around control, immobilization, and icy zones, according to the TennoLive presentation.

Digital Extremes hasn't yet revealed the four detailed powers — that will be the subject of the September 4 Devstream — but the teaser puts the emphasis on an ice blade (the "Iceblade" that gives the update its name), most likely an Exalted Weapon like Excalibur's Exalted Blade or Titania Prime's Diwata. So stock up on Umbral Intensify, Primed Continuity, and Melee Prowess in your endo reserves: we're looking at a hybrid strength / duration / melee build, likely with a CC synergy similar to Frost's.

Citrine Prime: the next Prime Access

Citrine, released on Fortuna in 2023, is becoming the next Warframe Prime. The Prime Access will launch alongside Iceblade of Narin and will include Citrine Prime, two Prime Weapons (including Steflos Prime, glimpsed at the end of TennoLive) and the usual cosmetic accessories. This is a highly anticipated Prime — Citrine remains one of the best options for group survivability in the Deep Archimedea thanks to her crystals that regenerate armor and health without relying on active energy.

Banshee's rework

Banshee had been waiting for her first Deluxe Collection since 2016. It's arriving with Iceblade of Narin, and more importantly: it comes with a full kit rework. Digital Extremes hinted that Sonar (2) and Silence (3) will be reworked to be more readable in horde situations, with punchier sound effects and better interaction with silent weapons. It's the most anticipated rework since Ember's in 2019 — Rebecca Ford herself pointed out that "every sound will make sense" (a phrase echoed by the production team).

Qorvex Deluxe

The second Deluxe Collection revealed: Qorvex, with a gothic-gargoyle theme. No gameplay changes announced for now, it's a purely cosmetic pack (skin, armor, syandana).

Warframe: Tau, the journey beyond the Origin System

This is the announcement that made the Budweiser Gardens crowd erupt. Warframe: Tau is the next major narrative expansion and, for the first time since the game's release in 2013, the Tenno will leave the Origin System to head to the Tau system — the one the Sentients originally came from during the Old War. Steve Sinclair put it this way on stage: "this is the journey we've been promising you for twelve years, and we're finally going to do it."

A brand-new Star Chart around a binary star

Tau is a binary star system — two suns orbiting one another — which gives Digital Extremes the artistic excuse for double sunsets, multiple cast shadows, and a reorganized Star Chart. The Tenno will travel aboard a customizable Orokin ship introduced during the Iceblade of Narin quest. It's a new feature reminiscent of Orbiter customization, but on a much larger scale — think Railjack, but more intimate.

Fornax, the Sentient ring-city

The first location unveiled is called Fornax. It's a Sentient ring-city described as "lawless" — no rules apply — lashed by a black rain that drives people mad, saturated with a drug called Bloom. The visual tone is unapologetically noir: neon lights, damp alleyways, crime everywhere. Digital Extremes owns the Blade Runner and Sin City inspiration outright. It's Warframe's first "noir" urban hub, a far cry from the sun-drenched vibe of Cetus or the industrial feel of Fortuna. A second location will be revealed with the full release of Tau, later in 2026.

The Hunra, Fornax's kingpin

The arc's main boss is called The Hunra, a Sentient crime lord voiced by Jonathan Bullock, who controls the Bloom trade across the entire ring-city. The Hunra isn't a standard mission boss: Digital Extremes has compared his structure to that of the Duviri Kingpins — a narrative progression across several acts rather than a single fight. Expect to have to dismantle his empire piece by piece, with mod and arcane drops along the way.

A new faction: the Fornax Drowners

The Fornax Drowners are an evolution of the classic Sentients, adapted to life in Fornax's aquatic-industrial environment. Half-organic, half-mechanical bodies, variable elemental resistances, pack behavior — this is the first major addition to the Sentient bestiary since The Duviri Paradox (2022).

Brysko, the detective Chimeraframe

The second Warframe revealed, exclusive to the Tau arc: Brysko. He's the very first "Chimeraframe" — a Warframe/Sentient fusion — and he's specifically built for infiltrating Fornax's criminal underworld in collaboration with Albrecht Entrati.

His kit is chatty and thematic:

  • Rain & Shine — a pair of brass knuckles (Exalted melee weapon, sparring category).
  • The Corecracker — an Exalted magnum revolver, very high caliber, single-round ammo and slow reload — think a Vasto on steroids, with a probably massive critical multiplier.
  • Explosive Cards — a utility projectile power, using the same suits as the Portau minigame: Blooms, Cores, Moons, Suns. Each suit should trigger a different effect (damage, CC, buff, debuff).
  • Inner Monologue — Brysko is "silent to the outside world", but his monologue is voiced by Matthew Mercer (Critical Role, Overwatch, Cyberpunk 2077). He'll comment live on missions in the style of a noir novel narrator.

This is the most character-driven kit since Voruna, and above all the first time a Warframe has been built so overtly around a star voice actor.

Portau, Shockwave, and the rest: the new satellite content

Portau, the first card minigame

Portau is the very first card game built into Warframe. Four suits — Blooms, Cores, Moons, Suns — a deck-building system, and NPCs to challenge in Fornax. The pitch is reminiscent of Gwent from The Witcher 3 or Caravan from Fallout: New Vegas — a narrative minigame, not a competitive mode, but with real rewards (mods, cosmetics, arcanes). The deck-building aspect will be tied to Blooms harvested during missions — so Portau becomes a second layer of reward on top of all Fornax activities.

Shockwave, the new Nightwave

The Nightwave battle pass, in place since 2019, is being overhauled and renamed Shockwave. The host is a new Protoframe named Amir, who replaces Nora Night. Digital Extremes promises a shorter season cadence, shorter reward tiers, and above all the disappearance of the punishing weekly grind — a recurring criticism from the community since the last Nightwave seasons.

Fortnite crossover and Mesa Heirloom

An Excalibur skin is coming to Fortnite; this marks the first time Warframe has entered the Epic Games ecosystem on the cosmetics side. On the internal cosmetics side, the Mesa Heirloom Collection offers a full western reinterpretation of Mesa Prime, with hat, duster coat, and saddlebags. Given the positioning of Heirloom items (ultra-limited paid edition), expect a price range of 60 to 80 euros as with previous ones.

What's changing on the balance side

Digital Extremes has not detailed the nerfs and buffs of the update — historically, these are revealed in the patch notes on release day — but a few directions were mentioned during the Devstream:

  • Banshee rework: Sonar should stop overriding certain headshots — currently, Sonar modifiers sometimes exceed critical hits and break high fire-rate crossbow builds. Digital Extremes has promised a "stabilization".
  • Unnamed rework: the Devstream mentioned a "highly-anticipated Rework" without saying which one. Community bets are on Nyx, Trinity, or Vauban — all three regularly cited as the three biggest laggards of the post-Duviri era.
  • Nightwave / Shockwave: a reduction in the weekly grind is expected, with friendlier progression for casual players. The studio also mentioned the possibility of carrying over unspent Cred during the transition — but without firm confirmation.

What to Farm Before Release

One month to build up stockpiles before Iceblade of Narin: endo, aya, and Steel Essence as top priorities. Credit: Digital Extremes — Warframe (Steam).

To arrive ready for Iceblade of Narin as soon as it releases this fall:

  • Endo and Kuva: Narin will be a heavy-build Warframe (ice = need for strength and duration), stock up at least 30,000 endo and 500k Kuva for potential Rivens on the new Exalted blade.
  • Aya and Regal Aya: Citrine Prime Access will empty the vaults; stock up on Aya so you can pick up the relics right at launch without buying the Prime Access pack.
  • Steel Essence: the new arcanes from Fornax's Kingpins should be cashable in Steel Essence, so keep 500+ in reserve to grab everything from the very first rotation.
  • Nightwave: finish the current season before the switch to Shockwave — Digital Extremes hasn't formally confirmed whether unspent Cred will carry over during the transition.

Conclusion

TennoCon 2026 did what it needed to do: give Warframe a clear direction for the next twelve months. Iceblade of Narin will serve as the launch ramp with Narin, Citrine Prime, and above all the long-awaited Banshee rework. Then Warframe: Tau will finally take the Tenno beyond the Origin System, into a dark-urban setting that radically breaks from the game's usual aesthetic — and will introduce the first Chimeraframe, Brysko, voiced by Matthew Mercer. The next Devstream, scheduled for September 4, 2026, is expected to confirm the exact release date of Iceblade of Narin and detail Narin's full kit. We'll be there. In the meantime, our guide to the Ryoku and Vena Constellations and our tutorial for obtaining Sirius and Orion remain perfectly relevant — Jade Shadows: Constellations remains the game's live content until Iceblade of Narin arrives.
