Warframe: Amir's Shockwave guide — the new Nightwave Mix and Tales & Frontiers requirements
In brief
Amir's Shockwave has arrived since August 12th with a new Nightwave Mix themed around Warframe: 1999, but the real hidden content is Fables & Frontiers: Running Late, a permanent narrative mini-adventure that no one can find due to a lack of clear guidance. Three prerequisites block access, and you need Reputation in reserve to collect the rewards from Amir.
The Temporal Storms Nightwave have closed their doors, and the next one arrived right on its heels: Amir's Shockwave has been live since August 12 on all platforms. The distinctive feature of this Mix is that Nora Night is no longer holding the mic — instead it's Amir, the Hex hacker, who hijacks the pirate radio for a season entirely themed around Warframe: 1999.
And above all, Digital Extremes has slipped in alongside this Mix a narrative mini-adventure that has nothing to do with the pass's progression. Many players are going to miss it because its access conditions aren't mentioned anywhere in the Nightwave interface. Here's how to tackle both.
What the Nightwave Mix rewards
The principle stays the same: a rotating set of Daily, Weekly, Elite Weekly, and Permanent Weekly Acts that push up the reward tiers. The cosmetic novelties announced by Digital Extremes for this Mix are the Globakk Syandana, the Kaneshell Atomicycle Skin, and the Teisatz Oculus, in keeping with Höllvanie's aesthetic.
Three reminders are worth more than a long farming guide:
- Permanent Weekly Acts don't disappear at the end of the week. If you play sparingly, these are the ones to prioritize: they accumulate instead of expiring.
- Daily Acts get replaced each day. No point grinding away at an act that requires content you haven't unlocked: it'll be replaced.
- The Nightwave menu can be accessed from three places — the Navigation console at your Clan's Dojo, the Orbiter's radio scanner (left side of the bridge), and the Pause menu. The radio scanner remains the fastest.
Fables & Frontiers: Running Late, the part nobody's going to find
This is the real piece of content in this update, and it's also the one that's most poorly signposted. Fables & Frontiers: Running Late is a six-day narrative KIM mini-adventure, a condensed adaptation of the Fables & Frontiers board game that exists within the Warframe: 1999 universe. Amir serves as your game master here.
Digital Extremes is explicit on one point worth remembering: this content is not tied to the Nightwave Mix. It's a permanent addition to the KIM system, accessible at any time once the prerequisites are met. In other words, nothing forces you to finish it before the season ends — but nothing stops you from jumping in right away either.
The three conditions to meet before you can start
Here's the point that's tripping up the most people. To unlock Fables & Frontiers: Running Late, you need to satisfy three prerequisites, and none of them can be bypassed:
- Complete the "The Hex" quest. This is the gateway to the 1999 content; without it, Höllvanie doesn't open up.
- Reach rank 5 with the Hex Syndicate. This is the longest condition if you've only skimmed through 1999: it requires accumulating Hex Reputation over several days, with the daily gain capped by your Mastery Rank.
- Have a KIM affinity of "Close" level (rank 5) with Amir specifically. A high affinity with another member of the Hex doesn't count. If you've focused your KIM conversations on someone else, this is the point to catch up on first, since it progresses at the pace of conversations rather than farming.
Practical consequence: if you're starting from scratch on 1999, expect several real-world days before you can launch the quest. Start with the KIM affinity with Amir, which is the slowest to raise incrementally, and let syndicate reputation fill up in parallel while you do your Acts.
Where to collect the rewards
The rewards from Fables & Frontiers don't automatically drop into your inventory. They're obtained from Amir, by ringing the bell in a new area of Höllvania's Central Mall, in exchange for Hex Reputation. So plan to have reputation in reserve by the time you finish the quest, otherwise you'll walk away empty-handed and have to wait for the next daily cap.
The announced catalog includes the Atomicycle Key Sugatra, Fables & Frontiers Glyphs for every member of the Hex, as well as several returning items from Nora's Mix Vol. 8. This last point deserves emphasis: if you missed out on cosmetics from that Mix back then, this is a second chance, and it goes through this channel, not through the current Mix.
What order to tackle it in
A simple plan for the next two weeks, depending on your situation:
- You've already finished 1999 and Hex rank 5. Just check your KIM affinity with Amir. If it's at "Close", start the quest whenever you like: it's permanent. Spend your playtime on the Mix's elite weekly Acts, which are the most efficient for tier progression.
- You've finished the quest but not rank 5. Absolute priority to Hex Reputation: it's used both to unlock access and to pay for the rewards afterward. You'll spend it twice, so better to build it up early.
- You haven't touched 1999. Do the "The Hex" quest first and don't worry about the calendar: the quest doesn't close. However, the Nightwave Mix, on the other hand, is seasonal — that's the one to prioritize if you're interested in the cosmetics.
The trap to avoid
The natural instinct, when a new Mix comes out, is to go all in on Acts so you don't miss anything. Here, that would be a misreading of the situation: the two pieces of content don't run on the same clock. The Mix is perishable, Fables & Frontiers isn't. If your playtime is limited before the end of the month, put it into the weekly Acts — even if that means discovering the narrative quest at leisure in September, with the necessary reputation already banked.
One unknown remains at this stage: Digital Extremes hasn't announced an end date for this Mix. Previous ones have run for several weeks, but until the counter is shown in-game, it's best not to bet on a comfortable window.

Key takeaways
- Amir's Shockwave replaces the Temporal Storms Nightwave with Amir as host and exclusive cosmetics like the Globakk Syandana
- Fables & Frontiers: Running Late is a permanent narrative adventure completely separate from the Mix, hidden behind three access conditions that the game doesn't flag anywhere
- You need Hex rank 5 AND Close-level KIM affinity with Amir specifically to unlock the adventure, which requires several real-world days of progression
- The adventure's rewards don't drop automatically: you have to ring the bell at Amir's in exchange for Hex Reputation, which means keeping Reputation in reserve
- The Mix is seasonal and perishable, the adventure never closes — if you're short on time, sacrifice the adventure for the Acts, you can finish Fables & Frontiers later
