Ghost of Yotei: the complete New Game + guide — ghost flowers, Masujiro the merchant and rewards
In brief
Ghost of Yōtei's New Game+, rolled out for free in November 2025, becomes the game's definitive endgame following the announcement that updates are ending. This exclusive mode introduces ghost flowers as currency, the merchant Masujiro with his cosmetics, a fifth upgrade tier for the entire arsenal, and two new trophies. Here's how to make the most of it with the best farming strategies and a detailed breakdown of the mysterious vendor's inventory.
Rolled out for free on November 24, 2025 with the 1.100 update, Ghost of Yōtei's New Game + lets you relaunch the hunt for the Six of Yōtei while keeping most of your progression. Above all, it introduces a whole exclusive ecosystem: a brand-new currency, ghost flowers, a mysterious merchant named Masujiro, more than 30 cosmetic items, 10 additional charms, and a new upgrade tier for your weapons and armor.
By summer 2026, this mode had taken on particular importance. Sucker Punch confirmed in May that Ghost of Yōtei Legends' April Raid was the last content update planned for the game: on the single-player side, New Game + is therefore the definitive endgame of Atsu's adventure. This is where the final unlockable rewards are found — and the only two trophies added since launch, outside of co-op mode.
Here's how to start New Game +, what carries over and what resets, the most effective methods for stockpiling ghost flowers, Masujiro's inventory with prices, and the 1.100 settings that make this second journey far more comfortable than the first.
How to start New Game +
There's just one condition: having completed the main campaign and seen the credits. The mode then unlocks from the title screen, where a dedicated option lets you relaunch Atsu's revenge from the prologue with your full arsenal.
At launch, the game offers specific difficulty options: every existing difficulty level gains a slightly higher "+" variant, designed to compensate for the fact that you start with all your weapons, tattoos, and upgraded gear. A new stats display also shows the chosen difficulty and playtime, which is handy for setting personal challenges.
What carries over, what starts from scratch
The progression carryover is very generous. The following carry over from one playthrough to the next:
- the five tattoo branches (skill trees) and all learned techniques;
- Atsu's six weapons and their upgrade levels;
- all armor sets and their tiers;
- charms, resources, dyes, and cosmetic gear.
Conversely, everything tied to the story starts from scratch: regions unlock again as the story progresses, relationships with NPCs are reset, the wolf pack reforms, and merchants reopen shop — their inventory, however, adapts to your progress from the first playthrough, which makes it easier to access the last upgrade materials. According to community data compiled by Game8, the quest tied to the Serpent is not replayable from the start of the second playthrough, however.
Ghost flowers: how to earn them quickly
Ghost flowers are New Game +'s exclusive currency: they can only be obtained in this mode and are only used with Masujiro. Be careful not to confuse them with the base game's regular flowers, used with merchants for dyes — a completely separate system.
All the main activities reward them:
- Main and side quests: two to three flowers per mission on average as you progress;
- Kojiro's bounties: each target on the bounty board yields its reward in flowers;
- Reflection altars: each unlocked altar grants a reward — a profitable move if you already know their locations;
- Duels: clashes against weapon masters also provide some;
- Points of interest: hot springs, bamboo strikes, and wolf dens round out the collection during exploration.
The most cost-effective approach at the start of New Game+: chain through the reflection altars and points of interest of each newly unlocked region before picking the story back up. You already know the map, collection is quick, and it funds your first purchases from Masujiro.
The three cursed charms, a risky but lucrative bet
Masujiro himself sells three "cursed" charms that add a chance to harvest ghost flowers from defeated enemies, in exchange for a permanent handicap while equipped. Their names only exist in English in community databases:
- Charm of Misfortune: you no longer recover resources or ammunition from fallen enemies;
- Charm of Cursed Spirit: all actions that draw from your Spirit gauge — healing and special attacks — cost twice as much;
- Charm of Frailty: any successful enemy attack is fatal, and your second chance (Onryo's Will) is disabled.
In practice, the Charm of Misfortune is the least punishing: after a full first playthrough, your resource reserves are more than sufficient, and the loss of everyday loot barely registers. The Charm of Frailty, on the other hand, turns the game into a full-on die-and-retry experience — best reserved for parry experts.
Masujiro: where to find him and what he sells
The new merchant sets up in the Yōtei Plains, the starting region, northwest of Atsu's House, on the path leading to the Shadow of Yōtei inn. He's impossible to miss once New Game+ starts: the character, entirely mute, only expresses himself through his flute. His English epithet, "the Melodious," has no officially recorded translation on the French side.
His entire inventory can only be paid for with ghost flowers. Here are the price ranges recorded by community databases:
| Category | Examples | Price in ghost flowers |
|---|---|---|
| Upgradeable armor sets | Oyuki's Armor, Ina's Armor | 15 each |
| Weapon kits | Tarnished Flame and Serpent's Venom (dual katanas), Kujira's Edge (ōdachi), Shinobi's Twilight and Saito's Naginata (yari), Night Fang (kusarigama) | 3 to 5 |
| Dyes | Patient Blade, Midnight and Sakura shamisen dyes | 3 to 7 |
| Hats | Dark Nanban Hat, Scorched Straw Hat, Headband of the Phoenix | 3 to 5 |
| Masks | Cicada's Nightmare, Koi Warrior, Mask of Silence, Onryo's Curse | 3 to 5 |
The two armor sets are the real novelty: beyond the cosmetic aspect, they upgrade like classic armors and are, on their own, worth serious farming. The weapon kits and masks, meanwhile, remain purely cosmetic — the names listed above are those from the original version, as the French client's labels have not been publicly documented.
A fifth upgrade tier for the entire arsenal
Update 1.100 also adds an additional upgrade tier for all existing armor and weapons. In plain terms: even gear maxed out during your first playthrough can still be upgraded further in New Game+, provided you gather the necessary resources from the usual merchants — hence the value of their updated inventory. Combined with the ten new charms (the three cursed ones, plus seven regular charms sold by Masujiro), this tier gives late-game builds real room to grow again.
Two new trophies, easy to secure
New Game+ adds two trophies, known by their original-version names — no French-language guide has documented their FR labels to date:
- Mo Ichido (silver): complete Atsu's hunt in New Game+, meaning finishing the main campaign again;
- Rare and Exceptional (bronze): buy an armor, charm, or cosmetic item from Masujiro.
Good news for platinum hunters: these two trophies aren't required for the base game's platinum trophy, which is obtainable on your first playthrough. The bronze one takes just a few minutes — three ghost flowers are enough for the cheapest cosmetic — while the silver simply rewards finishing your second run.
The 1.100 settings that change your second playthrough
The same update brought a set of options that really come into their own once you already know the story:
- Balanced mode: a graphics preset targeting 40 frames per second on 120 Hz displays, along with VRR support — the best middle ground between the quality mode and the performance mode;
- auto-loot: defeated enemies are looted without pressing a button, a considerable time-saver on a collection-focused run;
- toggleable fall damage, letting you explore Ezo's terrain without penalty;
- skippable Sumi-e mini-games, if you don't want to redo paintings you've already completed;
- on the photo mode side: adjustable shutter speed, a composition grid, and new filters, in addition to Kurosawa mode.
