In brief

The Big Walk map isn't obtained for free at launch. You must first open the drawbridge, then solve a puzzle involving five gourds to unlock the key that locks the underground room. Once inside, two versions await you: a giant, detail-packed wall map, and another foldable and portable one, much more practical for your travels.

The map isn't handed to you right away in Big Walk. It's tucked away in a locked room, and to reach it you first need to unlock the drawbridge. Nothing brutal in terms of difficulty, but the process takes several steps and is easy to miss if you don't search the right spots.

Step 1: open the drawbridge

Before you even think about the map, you need to open the drawbridge, that big red bridge sitting along the ocean. Without it, there's no way to reach the area you're after. Once it's open, walk around the cliff: a shortcut unlocks, letting you easily get back to the starting point.

Step 2: spot the blue door

Looking around from this shortcut, you'll come across a big blue door tucked into the hills. As you'd expect, it's locked. You need a key, and that key doesn't grow on trees.

Step 3: the puzzle of the five gourds

From the entrance, head up to the left. You'll come across a red tower with a puzzle to solve, on the same principle as the one for the drawbridge.

Climb up to the roof of the tower: you're missing five gourds that need to be found nearby.

  • Explore the area around the red tower to locate the five gourds.
  • Bring them back one by one to the top of the tower.
  • Once all five are placed, the key unlocks.

Step 4: cut the key and open the door

The key you obtain isn't usable as is just yet. Bring it to the first key cutter, located at the entrance of the map room (the blue door). A marker then appears to show what to do next. Once the key has been cut, head back to the locked blue door and place it there to open it.

What awaits you in the room

Inside, two maps await you, and they don't serve the same purpose. The first one is massive, takes up almost the entire room, and stays fixed in place: there's no way to take it with you. In exchange, it's packed with details, including all the puzzles that are still unsolved.

The second one is small, foldable, and above all portable. This is the one you'll use the most in practice: less detailed than the wall version, but far more convenient to check while on the move. For everyday exploration, this is clearly the version to favor.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I take the big map hanging on the wall?
It's a wall map that covers almost the entire room. It's fixed in place, impossible to carry away. But it remains there as a permanent reference with all the unsolved puzzles marked on it.
Which map should I use on a daily basis?
The small foldable map. Less detailed than its wall-mounted cousin, but portable and can be checked while on the move. It's clearly the one you'll use the most.
Where exactly are the five gourds?
They're lying around the immediate vicinity of the red tower. Explore the area thoroughly, they're not hidden at the far end of the world, just numerous enough that you'll need to search a bit.
Does the key come out directly usable after the puzzle?
No. You need to bring it to the key cutter located at the entrance of the room. Once cut, it becomes compatible with the blue door's lock.

Key takeaways

  • The red drawbridge must be opened first to access the map area.
  • Find five gourds around the red tower, place them at the top to unlock the raw key.
  • The key must be cut at the cutter before it can open the blue door.
  • Two maps await you: one is a giant wall map, the other is portable and less detailed but far more useful for exploration.
