Apex Legends: Respawn announces the Tuesday, August 25 patch four days in advance — Axle loses 50 ultimate HP and Jump Pad
In brief
Respawn is announcing a heavy Apex Legends patch four days in advance, set to drop on Tuesday, August 25th. Axle, the new Legend, takes the hardest hits: her Impulse drone loses 50 HP, her stun drops from 1.5 to 0.25 seconds, and her ultimate cooldown climbs from 90 to 120 seconds. The Jump Breach upgrade is being removed outright.
Respawn Entertainment published on Friday, August 21, 2026 the balance changes for an Apex Legends patch that isn't live yet: the studio is targeting Tuesday, August 25 in the morning, four days after the announcement. Three Legends are affected: Axle, who takes the bulk of it, Bloodhound, and Seer.
The approach is openly stated: Respawn opens its post — in English — by announcing they're doing "something a little different," namely publishing changes before they go live. Nothing has changed as of this Saturday, August 22: Axle keeps, until Tuesday, her drone Impulse's 200 HP, her 90-second ultimate cooldown, and her Jump Pad upgrade. Everything that follows is in the future tense.
A note on terminology: this announcement only exists in English, including on the Steam feed viewed in French, and EA has not carried it over to its French-language site. The French labels used here — Nitro Vent, Impulse, Jump Pad, Super Slide, Stormpoint Cloak — are those from EA's official French patch notes for seasons 29 and 30. The new upgrade named by Respawn, Drone Deployer, has no published French name: we're leaving it in English.

What Respawn is announcing, and on what timeline
The announcement was posted on August 21 on the game's official news feed. It contains no content additions: just a single section of adjustments, with no design notes. Respawn states it's targeting the morning of Tuesday, August 25, framing it as a goal rather than a commitment. No time is given: a delay remains possible.
The date isn't neutral within season 30's schedule: Ranked Split 3 also opens on Tuesday, August 25, running through Sunday, August 30. The matches that build your Split 3 score will therefore be played entirely under the new values, while Ranked Split 2 closes tomorrow, Sunday, August 23, under the current values.
Axle: the before/after table
Line by line, what Respawn has published for Axle. On the left, the state of the game as of this Saturday, August 22; on the right, what will apply after the patch.
| Ability and parameter | Today, August 22 | Starting August 25 |
|---|---|---|
| Nitro Vent — launch speed | 750 | 700 |
| Impulse — drone health | 200 HP | 150 HP |
| Impulse — base cooldown | 90s | 120s |
| Impulse — stun duration | 1.5s | 0.25s |
| Impulse — launch arc | value not published | widened (no figure given) |
| Impulse — maximum launch height | value not published | reduced (no figure given) |
| Level 3 upgrade | Jump Pad | Drone Deployer: ultimate reduced back to 90s |
Two reading notes. Respawn lists the Nitro Vent speeds as bare numbers, without a unit: only the difference matters, namely 50 points less. And for both the launch arc and the launch height, the announcement only offers the words "widened" and "reduced," with no figures.
What each line will actually change in a match
The 50 HP removed from the drone is a gift to the enemy team. The official English description of Impulse notes that the target can "escape the drone or destroy it before it detonates." Dropping from 200 to 150 health shortens the amount of fire needed to shoot it down: counterplay becomes viable more often.
The stun dropping from 1.5 to 0.25 seconds is the heaviest line in the announcement. Right now, a successful Impulse launches the target into the air, reveals them, deals explosive damage, and leaves them unable to act for a second and a half — more than enough to finish off an already-damaged opponent. A quarter of a second is a reaction window, not an execution window. The launch, the reveal, and the damage remain: it's the guaranteed follow-up kill that disappears.
The cooldown going from 90 to 120 seconds cuts ultimate frequency by a quarter. Over a long match, that adds up to missing Impulses.
The Nitro Vent at 700 is the lightest adjustment. The portal remains "team-neutral" according to the official notes: it launches allies and enemies the same way, with only Axle keeping the increased slide control from her passive, Skedaddle. A lower speed therefore also makes it less useful to whoever is chasing you.
Jump Pad is gone: the level 3 choice is up for grabs again
Since the start of season 30, Axle's upgrade tree has looked like this: Slide Shot vs. Take It To The End at level 2, Jump Pad vs. Super Slide at level 3. Jump Pad enhances the Nitro Vent itself by granting a double jump for as long as its effect remains active.
On Tuesday, that option leaves the game. In its place, Drone Deployer brings the ultimate cooldown back to 90 seconds. The math is clear: Respawn is raising the base cooldown to 120 seconds, then handing back the 90 seconds to whoever commits their level 3 to it. The trade-off becomes ultimate frequency versus mobility, with Super Slide offering a second tactical charge.
Two of our articles become partially outdated on Tuesday, it's worth saying plainly. Our upgrades guide from August 10 describes the level 3 pair "Jump Pad vs. Super Slide": that pair will no longer exist. Everything it says about level 2 remains accurate, including the fact that Take It To The End extends the maximum slide boost from 3 to 5 seconds, as well as the reminder that Axle's ultimate also affects its user and their allies. Our tier list from August 11 placed Axle in A rank: it described the state of the game as of that date.

Bloodhound: Cloak stops breaking from ring damage
Four lines concern Bloodhound, and none touch their ranges. The most concrete: ring damage will no longer break Cloak. Right now, Cloak breaks the moment you take damage, fire your weapon, or use most of your abilities — ring damage falls into the first category. Starting Tuesday, a rotation caught late under Stormpoint Cloak will hold instead of exposing you on the first ring tick.
Second line: Cloak visibility will be reduced while inside a dome. Respawn writes "while in dome" without specifying which one or by how much. Third: tactical scan gains a second, without stating on which value — the tactical currently performs a full 3-second body scan, followed by 4 instant scans spaced 1.5 seconds apart. Fourth: scans will produce more frequent snapshots, which will fade over time.
An earlier fix affecting the same Legend is already live: on August 19, Respawn removed an exploit that let Bloodhound reach their ultimate very quickly through their level 3 upgrades.
Seer: the rotation slow is gone for good
The line fits in one sentence: the rotation slow will be removed when Seer's tactical hits. This isn't a repeat of a change already made, it's a second step. Season 30's English patch notes only announced a "reduction to the intensity of the rotation slow applied," explaining they wanted to avoid hit players feeling "as if a stun" was locking them down. Three weeks later, Respawn is removing it entirely.
For targets, Seer's tactical will stop interfering with aim. On Seer's side, nothing else changes: not the reveal, not the timers, not the structure of their upgrades.
What to do before Tuesday
- This weekend, play under the current values. Impulse at 200 HP, the 90-second cooldown, and the second-and-a-half stun hold until Tuesday morning.
- If you care about the Nitro Vent's double jump, now's the time. Jump Pad disappears with the patch: movement habits built around it will need to be relearned.
- Wrap up your Ranked Split 2 today or tomorrow. The window closes Sunday, August 23, before the patch: your five best matches will be played under the current game state.
- Prepare your level 3 pick for Tuesday. If your playstyle revolves around Impulse, Drone Deployer restores the 90-second cooldown. If you play Axle for movement, Super Slide and its second tactical charge become the default option.
What remains is the bigger question: where does this rebalance take the meta? The source material doesn't allow for much speculation, and it's better to say so than to fill the gap. Respawn doesn't characterize this patch, doesn't accompany it with any design notes, gives no pick rates, and announces no ability removal. What can be said without extrapolating is that the studio wrote in early August, in the season 30 patch notes, that if Axle remained "a threat to deal with in too many situations," it would take "an even more drastic approach." The August 21 announcement doesn't draw that connection explicitly, but it tightens another notch on the same Legend, in the same direction: less uptime, more counterplay.
One last point: until the patch is actually deployed, these figures remain intentions, and values announced in advance can still change. We will update this article once the final patch notes go live.
