Mistfall Hunter: how to unlock and optimize the game solo

Mistfall Hunter is a PvEvP extraction action-RPG playable solo or in a three-player squad. Solo play is available very early on, but you have to go through the tutorial before you can freely choose your game mode. The game stays more demanding when playing alone, especially with other hunters lying in ambush.

Unlocking solo: what you need to do at the start

You can play solo from the very launch, but not right away on just any content. The game first requires you to follow its intro tutorial, which explains the basics: combat, exploration, and extraction.

• Start a new game and go through the starting tutorial. There, you'll see how to strike, dodge, loot, and get out alive from an expedition.
• Once the tutorial is done, you'll find yourself at the Hub. Take the opportunity to talk to the NPCs, gather some context, and get your bearings.
• You are then sent on your first expedition into the Hollowgrave. This outing is still part of the tutorial and is played 100% solo, as imposed by the game.
• After successfully extracting and returning to the Hub, the game unlocks group options: you can form a three-player squad and invite friends via cross-play.

Note

From this point on, solo is no longer a special mode: it's simply a permanent option. You can keep heading out on expeditions alone without ever inviting anyone or starting group matchmaking.

Choosing solo after the tutorial

Once the Hub is unlocked and the first Hollowgrave completed, Mistfall Hunter lets us choose how to play each expedition. Solo remains available alongside three-player runs.

• From the Hub, launch an expedition as usual.
• When setting up the outing, decide to go alone, without filling out a group.
• You are not required to invite friends or activate matchmaking: solo remains available throughout the entire game.

The system is simple: the game offers three-player co-op, but never forces you to use it. If you prefer to control the pace and the loot, you have the option of staying solo from start to finish.

Playing solo in a PvEvP game

Mistfall Hunter mixes AI-controlled monsters with other players during expeditions. Even solo, you remain in a PvEvP environment, with enemy hunters who can ruin your run just as much as the creatures can.

Solo, you have to take on more risks:

• Fights against multiple enemies are tenser. You have to manage focus, switch targets often, and you'll quickly take damage if you linger too long.
• Without teammates to cover the angles, every engagement is potentially a 1vX. With no one to revive you or to hold off the mobs while you loot.
• The slightest bad timing on an extraction can mean losing the entire loot session.

The key when playing solo is to treat every encounter as a calculated risk. You have no backup: you have to decide quickly whether to push forward, go around, or head straight for the extraction.
