Stranded Deep 2: reveal trailer trades the island for the desert

After the deserted island of the first game, North Beach Games is completely changing the setting. The reveal trailer for Stranded Deep 2 this time plunges into a vast desert expanse crossed by an endless river, a radical gamble for a sequel meant to carry on the survival formula that made the first installment a success.

The footage shows a kayak and a raft navigating waters that are sometimes calm, sometimes downright dangerous, between canyons and dunes. Wildlife seems to play a more organic role than before, with a real food chain in which the player is clearly not at the top.

It's hard to make a direct comparison with the trailers for the first Stranded Deep, released over a decade ago on the classic tropical island. The change of setting is the real visual shock here: we go from a beach shipwreck to river survivalism in the middle of the desert, a shift embraced by Sam Edwards, co-creator of the franchise, who remains at the helm as creative director.
