Stranded Deep

The Stranded Deep saga was born in 2015, in early access on PC, carried by a tiny Australian studio, Beam Team Games. The starting idea fits in one sentence: a plane crash over the Pacific, a survivor, and nothing but a hostile ocean as the horizon. No scripted quest, no NPC to hold your hand. Just you, your thirst, your hunger, and sharks waiting for your first mistake.

The game officially released in 2020 after five years of community-driven polishing, establishing itself as a discreet but solid reference of the survival sandbox genre in an open marine world. Its strength: a demanding crafting system, punishing but readable survival management, and that unique feeling of a hand-built raft drifting between two unknown islands. Sam Edwards, co-creator of the very first game, remains the central figure of the license.

Nearly a decade later, the franchise changes studio - now backed by North Beach Games Prague - and above all changes setting. Stranded Deep 2 trades the ocean for a desert crossed by an endless river, while keeping the DNA that made the first game successful: raw survival, a world that reacts to your actions, a mobile base that you carry with you.

A franchise modest in numbers, but influential in the genre: it helped popularize minimalist, no-frills survival, well before the genre exploded on Steam.
