Aion 2: the August 12 Korean patch rewrites healing — 40-meter range, but 20 to 50% less power
In brief
On August 12th in Korea, NCSOFT is rolling out a major Aion 2 update that completely rewrites healing mechanics: range extended to 40 meters against a 20 to 50 percent reduction in power, with reinforced anti-heal debuffs across seven classes. A second wave of adjustments is announced for August 26th, which makes any analysis based on these numbers obsolete before the Western launch on September 30th.
NCSOFT rolled out this Wednesday, August 12, 2026 the Korean update for Aion 2, the first real content delivery in a month. On the menu: a new Expedition, a Transcendence dungeon, two tiers of accessories — and a healing overhaul that's bound to get people talking, seven weeks before the Western early access launch.
A reminder of the context for those awaiting the global version: the Korean server acts as a testing ground. Whatever is tested today in Seoul stands a good chance of landing in the Western build on September 30 (early access) and October 5 (global launch). The Korean patches aren't some exotic bit of news: they're the patch notes for our own launch.
The healing overhaul: further, but weaker
This is the point that dominates the patch. Heals from the Cleric and the Chanter go from a range of about 25 meters to 40 meters, and in exchange lose 20 to 50% of their power depending on the spell.
The trade-off doesn't stop there: the healing passives of both classes lose their flat amplification and will now scale with attack power instead. And in the same move, the healing-reduction debuffs are strengthened on seven classes.
Put together, the message is clear, and it's first and foremost a PvP message. A healer who covers 40 meters no longer needs to stick to their group: they can position themselves further back, out of melee range, and still stay useful. In exchange, they heal less, they depend on their offensive stats to heal well, and they become much easier for the enemy team to shut down. NCSOFT is trading positional safety for vulnerability to counterplay.
For the Abyss and mass battles, this is a heavy rebalance. Compositions that stacked healing to hold a point will now have to deal with sharper anti-heal debuffs — exactly the direction NCSOFT had already taken at the end of July by cutting PvP damage by 30%.
The "class care" pass doesn't stop there
NCSOFT announces that this patch kicks off an attention pass on four classes: the Cleric (치유성) and the Chanter (호법성), then, but also the two Korean classes 권성 and 검성 — whose Western names haven't been finalized yet. Our previous articles have seen "Fistmaster", "Brawler" and "Templar" circulate as names for these profiles, without confirmation from NC America.
Above all, the publisher warns that a second wave is coming: starting August 26, a concept-reinforcement pass per class is set to follow, with the stated goal of boosting the Cleric's healing capacity and closing the Chanter's healing shortfall. In other words, today's cut isn't the final word: it reshuffles the deck ahead of a second pass.
For a Western player, that's worth taking as a piece of advice: don't build your launch class choice around the August 12 numbers. They'll have shifted twice before the global build is locked in.
The added content: Expedition, Transcendence, and accessories
On the PvE side, the patch delivers three blocks:
- A new Expedition, the Deus Research Base, offered in Exploration and Conquest modes (Normal and Hard). Note on the name: English-language sources hesitate between Corroded Deus Research Base and Encroached Deus Research Base, as the official Western translation does not exist yet.
- A Transcendence dungeon, Noiran's Hidden Legacy, split into four stages, which drops the new Dice and Lantern Arcana pieces.
- Two new accessory tiers: a draconic crafting tier and an Abyss tier.
This is a classic progression patch for a Korean MMO: the gear ceiling is raised at the same time as the content that distributes it is opened up. Nothing revolutionary, but enough to keep Korean players busy until the end of the month.
Battlegrounds: no more groups of three
The most concrete PvP change for the average player concerns matchmaking: battlegrounds now only accept solo or 5-player registrations. The intermediate formats disappear.
The reason is obvious to anyone who has played a PvP MMO: partial groups — two or three coordinated players thrown in among strangers — create the most unbalanced matches in the game. NCSOFT is adding class balancing in the solo queue, meant to prevent teams made up of five DPS from facing a full formation.
This is a sound decision, and it deserves to be noted for the Western release: it means that Aion 2's competitive PvP will be played in five, or solo. Plan your groups accordingly.
Interface, shop and end of a collaboration
Three lighter notes close out the patch. The mobile client receives a HUD editor, requested since the Korean launch. The shop has been rebuilt, with a new Appearance tab. And the collaboration with the group fromis_9 is ending: items tied to the event leave the rotation.
What this means for the Western release
Seven weeks separate this patch from the September 30 early access. Three takeaways to draw from it:
- The healer role is being completely rewritten. Between the August 12 cut and the buff announced for the 26th, no one can say today what the Cleric and the Chanter will look like at the Western launch. Any tier list published this week is already outdated.
- The gear ceiling keeps rising. The new draconic and Abyss accessory tiers add to an already dense system — which once again raises the question of catch-up for players who will start in October on fresh servers.
- The PvP format is settling at 5. This is the most actionable piece of information in the patch for anyone planning to play seriously: start rounding up four teammates.
Next notable deadline: August 26 for the second wave of class adjustments, then the Opening Night Live at gamescom 2026, on August 25, where NC is expected to show the Western build.
