In brief

Windrose, released in early access in April 2026, hides its best rewards in one hundred points of interest scattered across the archipelago. This guide lists ten essential spots for progressing in rare loot, from pirate camps to the bosses that unlock the next biomes, along with access mechanics and proven tips.

Released in early access on April 14, 2026 on Steam, Windrose (Kraken Express, formerly Windrose Crew, published by Pocketpair Publishing) leans heavily on exploration. The archipelago has around thirty procedurally generated islands, but more than a hundred points of interest are hand-placed: that's where the real rewards are hiding. If you skip the unmarked islands and only chain through the objectives already highlighted on screen, you'll miss out on the best loot. This 2026 guide lists the ten priority spots to visit to climb the tier chain copperironsteel, unlock the unique weapons, and clear the current endgame. Names are deliberately kept in English: French localization is still partial in this early access version, so it's better to stick to the game's own naming to avoid confusion when talking with your crew.

How to read this guide (and why there are no fixed coordinates)

A quick methodological note before diving in: aside from Tortuga, no point of interest has absolute coordinates in Windrose. Island layout is randomized per server and POIs are recomposed every time a new game is created. So we'll give you the zone/biome in question, the type of site to spot visually with your makeshift spyglass, the recommended tier, the specific access mechanics, and the target loot. Three biomes are playable in early access: Coastal Jungle (tiers 1-5, copper), Foothills (6-10, iron), and Cursed Swamps (11-15, steel). The Ashlands are announced for the next major update but remain locked as of this writing. Be wary of guides claiming to give precise coordinates: that's technically impossible, since the map is regenerated.

1. Tortuga — the archipelago's only fixed hub

Biome: northwest of the map, behind the blue flame barrier. Tier: accessible as soon as the tutorial ends, once you've launched a Ketch. Loot: faction merchants, piracy contracts, a dry dock to repair/upgrade Ketch, Brig, and Frigate, and crew recruitment. This is also where you spend your Piastres, the game's main spending currency. Access: the first approach requires going around the Undead Waters (level 6-10) through "the pier," the only breach in the blazing barrier. Once unlocked, fast travel to Tortuga avoids the perilous trip back through the ghost ships. Why start here? Because all your rare loot runs inevitably end with refitting the ship, repairing the sails, and selling ingots to one of the specialized merchants standing at the dock.

2. Pirate Remains — the opening camp you shouldn't rush

Biome: Coastal Jungle, on the starting island, east of the spawn point. Tier: 1-2, before even your first hull upgrade. Loot: the Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest treasure (5 Guinea, 4 Silver Ingots) and, most importantly, a guaranteed Fast Travel Bell that immediately sets up your first teleport point. Mechanic: as soon as you dig through the dirt mound, four Drowned spawn in a circle — have a bow and a dodge ready before you start digging. Many players in a hurry miss the bell: that's a mistake, since it saves you hours of back-and-forth sailing as early as act 1.

3. Blackbeard Pirate Camps — the hunt for rare maps

Biome: Coastal Jungle and Foothills, never on the starting island. Tier: 3 to 8. Loot: Blackbeard Treasure Maps, a rare drop from camp chests, which kick off a chain of nine buried treasure quests. Each map points to a mound or a makeshift grave, guarded by a skeleton on the ground as a visual clue. Cumulative rewards: Piastres, Silver Ingots, Ship Style Books (hull skins) and equipment at the biome's tier. Mechanic: you have to loot every chest in every camp until a map drops — the maps hide randomly, you can't target them. Proven tip: crates stacked outside tents very often contain already processed materials (braided rope, forged ingots) that simply skip the smelting step at the furnace.

4. Coastal Jungle Boss Arena — the gateway to iron

Biome: Coastal Jungle, at the back of a fortified camp closed off by a wooden gate. Tier: 5. Boss: Thomas Richards (which some guides also call Bosun/Boatswain). Loot: the gate to the next biome. This fight is what unlocks access to the Foothills and the entire iron progression. Mechanic: you must first complete the Revenge Is Best Served Cold quest by collecting four Black Marks from the pirate captains in the area. Without all four, the gate stays sealed. Bring at least one loaded musket and two Standing Torches: Thomas Richards opens the fight with a frontal charge that the torch interrupts.

5. Senkamati Ruins — the tier-3 alchemy stockpile

Biome: Foothills, Ancient-type ruins. Tier: 8-10. Loot: chests filled with tier-3 alchemy reagents, powders and essences that fill half the endgame grimoire in a single visit. Senkamati ruins are rarer than Robinson, Universall, Panno or Garden Ruins — each world typically has one or two. Mechanic: the rooms are populated with scripted enemies (no dynamic spawns): clear from the outside in, since each triggered room spawns three to five opponents. Bring at least an iron pickaxe: several chests are sealed behind a destructible wall.

6. Ancient Fire Sanctuary — the Firebowl puzzle

Biome: Foothills, two variants coexist (the 4-chest one, faster, and the 8-chest one with platforms). Tier: 6-10. Loot: up to 5 Tumbaga Ingots in the final sealed chest, plus Gold and a big XP payout. Mechanic: four Firebowl Braziers are scattered around the ruins — one in a hole to the southeast, another behind a blocked tunnel to the west, a third on a rooftop accessible via a ladder, and a fourth already in place. You need to repair each brazier with stone and then light it with a carried torch. Some rooms trigger pressure plates that require a vase to be placed in the right spot — it's possible to mess this up. Small tip: in case of a softlock, Alt + F4 resets the POI with no penalty.

7. Israel Hands' Lair — the guaranteed Soul Eater drop

Biome: Foothills, an isolated den in an inland cliff. Tier: 9-10. Boss: Israel Hands. Loot: the post-fight Ancient Chest drops Soul Eater (unique sabre, iron/steel tier), a Charon's Obol, 30 Undead Essence and around 50 XP. This is the first "endgame" sword you'll get your hands on. Mechanic: the Needle in a Haystack quest gates the opening of the den; without it, the door stays sealed. Israel Hands alternates between fast melee phases and shots from a three-barrel pistol: keep your distance while he reloads, and stick close when he draws his blade.

8. Ancient Temple — Ghost Captain, the optional branch

Biome: Foothills / Cursed Swamps border, a full-fledged dungeon. Tier: 10-12. Boss: Ghost Captain. Loot: the fight also guarantees Soul Eater, plus extra Tumbaga Ingots in the chests — handy for double-drops if your group has several players to gear up. Mechanic: this boss is an optional branch of the same Needle in a Haystack quest; you can therefore choose Israel Hands, Ghost Captain, or both. The Temple demands precise stamina management: the boss chains three fast spectral attacks followed by a two-second window where he's vulnerable. Bring a tier-3 iron pickaxe — several crumbling wall sections hide the 4 or 5 bonus chests reported by the community.

9. Stargazer Tower — astronomical puzzle and Tumbaga farming

Biome: Cursed Swamps, an isolated astronomical ruin. Tier: 11-13. Loot: every Ancient Chest hidden in the tower drops 3 Tumbaga Ingots, and turning in the Fate of the Prophets quest adds a further 10 Tumbaga Ingots plus a rare lore note. This is the best Tumbaga-per-time ratio in the current version. Mechanic: the central puzzle requires aligning celestial symbols by rotating several stone discs — the order is shown on fresco fragments scattered throughout the tower. Three floors, each adding a constraint (night, fog, wind). Bring a lamp: the fog literally hides the glyphs if you don't light up the room.

10. Priestess's Chambers — the current steel endgame

Biome: Cursed Swamps, funerary complex at the heart of the marsh. Tier: 12-15. Boss: High Priestess (official endgame boss of early access, ranked steel tier). Loot: the eleven chests stacked in the adjoining Crypt spit out tier-3 alchemy reagents, corrupted accessories (offensive bonuses + corruption penalties) and a second Charon's Obol at the end of the fight, rounded out by the endgame schematics that unlock the full build of the Frigate. Mechanic: the Forgotten Relics quest opens the path; the Priestess fights in an amphitheater bathed in a pool of blood that applies a corruption stack every five seconds. The real challenge isn't the HP bar but managing the corruption gauge: cleanse with Purifying Herbs between phases. Rare tip: several players recommend the Swamp Creature (wandering mini-boss at the tooth) right before, to farm the crafting component used on anti-corruption accessories.

Recap: the optimal farming loop

If you want to maximize rare loot without spreading yourself too thin, the efficient order is as follows:

  • Day 1-2: Pirate Remains + three Pirate Camps in the Coastal Jungle for the Fast Travel Bell, a few Blackbeard cards, and your first stock of Guinea.
  • Day 3-5: Coastal Jungle Boss Arena → Thomas Richards → opening up the Foothills → Tortuga via the safe route.
  • Day 6-10: Senkamati Ruins + Ancient Fire Sanctuary for your stock of Tumbaga, then Israel Hands (or Ghost Captain via the Temple) for Soul Eater.
  • Day 11+: Stargazer Tower two to three times to fill your inventory with Tumbaga Ingots, then Priestess's Chambers in a group of three to four players to complete steel-tier progression.

One method point worth remembering: ore deposits (copper, iron, steel) and camp chests respawn every 24 in-game hours. Placing your base near a cluster of mines and a Blackbeard camp therefore multiplies the value of a single coastal trip. Finally, keep in mind that Windrose is planned to remain in early access for another 1.5 to 2.5 years: the 2026 roadmap promises the Ashlands biome with the next major update, likely with the Kraken itself as the final boss, plus tiers 16-20. The ten spots described above will obviously remain relevant, but you'd better start preparing a Frigate fully outfitted down to the last part: word is that the crossing to the Ashlands won't forgive any structural weakness.

Do this today: check your current playthrough to see which of the ten listed POIs have already appeared, note them precisely on your hand-drawn map (the game won't do it for you), and plan your next two or three sessions around the Foothills → Tortuga → Cursed Swamps loop. This is where the difference is made between a sailor stuck at iron tier and a true captain who unlocks the full Frigate even before the official arrival of the Ashlands.

Which type of POI appeals to you most in Windrose?

Frequently asked questions

Why do all my guides give different coordinates?
Because Windrose's map is regenerated per server and POIs get reshuffled with every new game created. Only Tortuga stays fixed. Guides that promise precise coordinates are technically talking nonsense.
Do I really have to beat Thomas Richards to move on to the Foothills?
Yes, he's the gatekeeper of the iron biome. Before that, you need to complete the Revenge Is Best Served Cold quest by collecting four Black Marks from the captains of Coastal Jungle, then face the boss himself with a musket and two torches.
Is Soul Eater really better than anything else you can drop elsewhere?
It's currently the game's first endgame sword — it completely changes your damage output and melee playstyle. Even if other weapons can be competitive, Soul Eater remains the first real power tier.
Are the Senkamati Ruins hard to find?
Yes, much more so than the Robinson or Garden Ruins. Each world typically has one or two, so spot it as soon as possible if you need tier-3 reagents.
I'm stuck on the Firebowl puzzle, is that normal?
Completely normal, these puzzles are a pain. If you're truly softlocked (for example, a vase thrown to the wrong side), Alt + F4 resets the POI with no penalty and you can start over.

Key takeaways

  • Tortuga is the only fixed hub: it's where you sell your loot, repair your ship, and recruit your crew.
  • The Fast Travel Bells at secondary POIs save you hours of sailing — don't skip them.
  • Blackbeard Treasure Maps kick off a chain of nine quests that fill your inventory with Silver Ingots and skins.
  • Soul Eater, the unique iron/steel sword, drops from Israel Hands or the Ghost Captain — top priority.
  • No POI has fixed coordinates outside of Tortuga: procedural generation reshuffles every server, so rely on biomes and visual clues instead.
