In brief

The Kazeros Raid Act 2 Extreme is live until September 16, 2026, with three difficulty tiers (Normal at 1,720 ilvl, Hard at 1,750, Nightmare at 1,770) and generous rewards: 20,000 to 45,000 gold per week. Be careful though: only the first clear counts per roster, which radically changes your progression strategy and makes these five weeks crucial for catching up on gear.

The weekly maintenance on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 brought The Bitter Cold online, and with it the centerpiece of the month: the Kazeros Raid: Act 2 Extreme, the Extreme version of the fight against Brelshaza. Time-limited content, big gold rewards, three difficulty tiers — and a reward restriction that completely changes how you should plan for it.

Here's what you need to know before putting together a group.

A closed window: from August 12 to September 16

The raid is playable from the August 12 maintenance until the maintenance on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. After that date, it disappears, just like the previous Extreme modes.

This format isn't new for Smilegate: Extreme modes are beefed-up reruns of already-known fights, brought back into the spotlight for a few weeks with a revised, higher reward scale. We covered Kazeros Act 1 Extreme in July, as part of the Summer of Extremes campaign; Act 2 follows the same structure, with a different boss, different entry thresholds, and different amounts. The practical consequence, however, is identical: this isn't content you can put off until "next month." There won't be a next month.

The three tiers and their ilvl requirements

The raid comes in three increasing difficulties, each with its own item level floor:

  • Normal — ilvl 1,720;
  • Hard — ilvl 1,750;
  • Nightmare — ilvl 1,770.

The gap between tiers is deliberately tight: thirty ilvl points separate each step. For a roster hovering around ilvl 1,700 — the threshold for Horizon Cathedral and the Ark Grid we discussed in recent days — entering Normal is within reach of a reasonable honing cycle, not a wall.

The real stakes: the gold, and the one-clear-per-roster rule

The rewards are the central selling point of this rerun:

  • Normal: 20,000 gold;
  • Hard: 45,000 gold;
  • Nightmare: the same rewards as Hard, plus an exclusive legendary title with a unique icon, awarded for the first clear.

But the most important mechanic isn't in the rewards table: rewards are limited to one clear per roster per week, and they are independent of your characters designated for gold income. This has two consequences, and they both point the same way.

First, there's no point running the raid on six characters: only the first clear of the week pays out, regardless of which character earns it. Second — and this is the good news — this gold doesn't consume one of your weekly gold-earning character slots. It's additional gold, not substitute gold.

Should you aim for Hard or settle for Normal?

The 25,000 gold gap between Normal and Hard is considerable for just thirty ilvl points. Over the five-week window, that adds up to a 125,000 gold difference — enough to fund a serious chunk of a honing tier.

Our take: if your roster can reach ilvl 1,750 within the next two weeks, it's more cost-effective to put all your materials toward pushing a single character to the Hard tier than to clear Normal every week with a comfortable character. The raid only rewards once per roster: better make that one time count.

The Nightmare tier follows a different logic. It doesn't pay out any more gold than Hard, so it's only worth it if the legendary title interests you or if the challenge itself is what you're after. It's the prestige tier, not the profitability tier.

How to prepare for the raid this week

Three tasks, in this order:

  • Pick the character. Since only one clear counts, choose the character whose ilvl is closest to the next tier, not the one you play best. Ilvl margin matters more than mastery, on a fight the community has already known for years.
  • Focus your honing. For five weeks, your upgrade materials have one obvious destination: breaking past 1,750. Spread them thin and you won't break past anything.
  • Review Brelshaza. The fight isn't new, and neither are its mechanics. Extreme modes tighten the windows and increase the damage, but they don't rewrite the patterns: one review session is enough for most groups.

What this format says about the direction Lost Ark is taking

A word on context, because it sheds light on the decision at hand. In recent months, Extreme modes have become the main tool Amazon Games and Smilegate use to inject gold into the economy without opening a new raid tier. The principle is the same every time: a fight the community already knows well, made harder, brought back into the spotlight for a few weeks, with deliberately generous rewards and a strict cap per roster.

This cap isn't an arbitrary constraint: it's what keeps the largest rosters from opening up an insurmountable gap. A player with a single character at ilvl 1,750 gets exactly the same payout as a player fielding six. For once, roster depth doesn't pay off — which makes this window particularly interesting for players who've recently returned.

If that's your situation, the takeaway is simple: these five weeks are your best opportunity of the summer to close a gear gap, without having to catch up on months of weekly content.

The rest of the update

Alongside the raid, The Bitter Cold brings the Panda avatar collection to the store, along with a new mount and a new pet. Nothing that affects progression, but the month's showcase for those following cosmetics.

Maintenance began on August 12 at 12:00 AM Pacific Time (9:00 AM in Paris) for an announced duration of about six hours.

The schedule to keep in mind

Four weekly resets stand between now and the closing window — those of August 19, August 26, September 2, and September 9 — with the window closing at the September 16 maintenance. That breaks the period down into five weeks of play. With one paying clear per week, that's five useful runs at most — and any missed week is gone for good.

If there's only one thing to take away: clear the raid early in the week, at the highest tier your roster can handle, and don't replay it for nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn't it worth running the raid on multiple characters?
Because only the raid's first clear pays out gold per week, regardless of which character earns it. Running the raid six times in a row only gets you what a single clear provides. You're better off putting your materials toward pushing a single character to the highest possible tier.
Should you aim for Hard or stick with Normal?
If your roster can reach 1,750 ilvl within one or two weeks, Hard is far more rewarding: a 25,000 gold difference per week, or 125,000 over five weeks. If that's not possible, Normal is an acceptable baseline. Nightmare doesn't pay any extra and is only worth it for the legendary title or personal challenge.
Does this additional gold reduce my usual rewards?
No, that's the good news: this 20,000 to 45,000 gold is a total surplus. It doesn't consume one of your weekly paid character slots. It's additional gold, not substituted gold.
I missed the first week — can I still catch up?
Only partially. There are four resets remaining before the September 16 closure, which splits the period into five total weeks. Each missed week means 20,000 to 45,000 gold lost forever, with no possibility of double clears the following week.
Why is this one-clear-per-roster limit only applied to Extreme modes?
Because it prevents massive rosters from opening up an insurmountable gap on the progression curve. With this mechanic, a player with a single character at 1,750 pockets exactly the same reward as a player running six characters: that's what makes these five weeks particularly appealing for newcomers or players who've recently returned.

Key takeaways

  • Only one paid clear per roster each week: focus your efforts on a single character and a single tier rather than spreading yourself thin.
  • The 25,000 gold gap between Normal and Hard adds up to 125,000 gold over five weeks — enough to fund serious honing if you can reach 1,750 ilvl quickly.
  • Only four resets separate you from the closure on September 16: every missed week is permanently lost, with no catch-up possible.
  • The additional rewards don't eat into your usual weekly gold slots — it's pure extra gold, perfect for tight rosters.
  • Nightmare doesn't pay better than Hard: only aim for it if prestige or the challenge genuinely interests you.
