Genshin Impact: Odette's guide · Swirling Snow — why she doesn't have a Vision and how to build her

Version 7.0 “The Merciless Eternal Winter” has been live since August 12, and with it comes Snezhnaya's first ballerina. Odette · Whirling Snow is a 5-star Cryo one-handed sword character, available on the event wishes “Shadow of a Frost-Silk Swan.”

We deliberately held off publishing her kit before release: beta datamines contradicted each other on almost everything, from the names of her skills to that of her signature weapon. The French client is now accessible, the labels are locked in, and we can finally talk about her properly.

The detail no one is pointing out: she doesn't have a Vision

It's written in black and white in the official 7.0 patch notes, and it's gone completely unnoticed. Odette's profile doesn't list “Vision: Cryo” like every character has since 2020, but rather “Stellar Pivot: Cryo.”

For comparison, Alyosha · Brisk-Paced Hound, the 4-star Electro polearm character released in the same version, does keep the “Vision: Electro” label. So the distinction is deliberate, and specific to Odette.

The game doesn't yet explain what this means mechanically. But in a context where Snezhnaya is precisely the region where Visions have a bad reputation, this wording discrepancy is no translation accident. Worth watching as the Archon Quest progresses.

Her role, as described by HoYoverse

The official description is thankfully unambiguous. Odette is a Cryo support character who enables her team to trigger Stellar Conduction and Stellar Dispersion reactions. She can:

• deal Stellar Reaction DMG continuously and off-field;
• provide the team with continuous Cryo application;
• grant the team a Stellar Reaction DMG bonus.

Translated into team-building terms: she's not a damage dealer. She's a reaction engine you set up and forget, exactly how the best off-field appliers from previous versions were played. Her value isn't measured by her own numbers but by what she enables for the rest of the team.

Her skills

The labels recorded in the French client since release give an Elemental Skill “Slow Dance – Ghostly Night Trance” and an Elemental Burst “Fast Dance – Dream of Black Feathers.” The concept relies on a dance double that alternates between two stances and intermittently strikes nearby enemies with AoE Cryo damage, while Odette herself is elsewhere.

We remain deliberately cautious about the exact numbers: HoYoverse hasn't published a value table in its French-language announcements, and first-day community datamines are rarely final. What is certain is the structure — persistent off-field Cryo application, paired with a Stellar Reaction damage bonus for the team.

Artifacts: Furnace Heart, no question about it

The set to aim for is Furnace Heart, which boosts the wearer's ATK and the team's Stellar Reaction damage. That's precisely Odette's profile, and no other set rivals it in terms of team-wide contribution.

An important warning, often forgotten: identical team-wide bonuses don't stack. Only one character on your team should wear this set. If you'd already built it on someone else back in 6.7, don't double up — move it over.

For main stats, the logic follows an ATK-scaling support: ATK on the sands and the goblet, and for sub-stats, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG first, then ATK%, then Energy Recharge and Elemental Mastery.

This last point deserves emphasis because it goes against the usual instincts: unlike a classic Cryo sub-DPS, most of Odette's value comes from reaction damage, not raw Cryo damage. Stacking Cryo damage bonus here is a build mistake.

Weapons: the signature, and the free sword everyone can get

Her exclusive weapon is the Winter's Feather of the White Lake, a 5-star one-handed sword obtained through wishes. It considerably increases ATK as well as Astral reaction CRIT DMG, and restores Elemental Energy. All three effects line up perfectly with Odette's kit.

But here's the most useful piece of information in this entire guide, and it costs nothing: the Hexaphanous Blade, also a 5-star one-handed sword, is obtained for free. All you need to do is progress through Archon Quest Chapter VII – Act 1 and complete "Great Feats on the Tundra". It considerably increases the Traveler's ATK and restores Elemental Energy after hitting an enemy. It can then be upgraded by using the Cryo element to awaken the Statues of The Seven of Snezhnaya and connect to them.

However, be careful not to mistake who this weapon is for: its official description explicitly targets the Traveler. It's an excellent sword, but it's built for the Cryo Traveler, not necessarily for Odette.

If you're looking for a free alternative geared toward astral reactions, look instead at the new 4-star forged weapons from Snezhnaya. The Ember-Well, a one-handed sword, increases ATK after triggering an elemental reaction and Astral reaction DMG after an astral reaction. The forging blueprints can be obtained from the NPC Kuzmichev, in Snezhnograd, in exchange for certain materials.

Who to pair her with

Odette fuels both known astral reactions: Astral Conduction (Cryo and Electro) and Astral Dispersion (Cryo and Anemo). Her teams are therefore built around these two axes.

• Astral Conduction axis: pair her with an Electro damage dealer. This is the most straightforward path, since it turns your team's regular Superconducts into their astral version.
• Astral Dispersion axis: pair her with an Anemo character who disperses. More technical, but it's the novelty of version 7.0.
• The Cryo Traveler is a natural and free companion: after entering resonance with Cryo, they too trigger astral reactions, with off-field damage and a quick entry into combat.

Should you pull for her?

Three scenarios.

You want to fully explore Snezhnaya and play around with astral reactions. She is currently the only 5-star designed for this, and she single-handedly carries an entire archetype. The bet is a reasonable one.

You already have well-honed Cryo teams. Careful: she doesn't replace a classic Cryo sub-DPS, she changes the way your team scores damage. You'll need to redo your artifacts and probably your rotations.

You're not convinced by Snezhnaya's content. Remember that phase 1 runs until September 1st and shares the spotlight with Arlecchino's rerun. There's no rush to decide today: the Heart of the Furnace and the Exaphane Blade can be obtained without spending a single Intertwined Fate.
