Genshin Impact 7.0: the Anemodesctruction guide and free Cryo Traveler
In brief
Genshin Impact's version 7.0 introduces Bloom of Astral Dispersal, a second astral reaction born from mixing Anemo + Cryo, capable of landing critical hits. The big shift: the Cryo Traveler becomes free and accessible right upon arriving in Snezhnaya, finally giving free access to the astral system without spending a single wish.
Version 7.0 "The Merciless Eternal Winter" arrives on August 12, 2026 and, behind the opening of Snezhnaya, it installs a second astral reaction in the game: Anemodescruction. Where Astroconduction in 6.7 married Cryo and Electro, this one is born from Anemo + Cryo contact — in other words, a plain old Cryo Swirl, the most harmless reaction in the game, promoted to the rank of damage engine.
The real shift isn't there, though. In 6.7, the only entry key into the astral system was Sandrone, a limited 5-star. In 7.0, the Cryo Traveler in turn becomes a stellar pivot: free, accessible to every account, unlocked within the first minutes spent in Snezhnaya. A player who has never spent a single wish will be able to run Anemodescruction on release day.
Here's exactly what the reaction produces, who can trigger it, which teams to prepare, and which stats to level up before next Wednesday. A note on methodology: 7.0 is not yet playable. What follows is based on the official version special program and on beta data relayed by the community. Every figure is flagged as such and remains subject to change before deployment.

What Anemodescruction does, case by case
The reaction triggers when Anemo touches a target already under a Cryo aura — or vice versa — provided a stellar pivot is present in the team. It then produces two distinct effects, and it's this duality that makes it interesting:
- An immediate instance of Anemo damage on the target, exactly like a regular Swirl.
- A Cryo polestar wind cluster ("Polestar Wind Cluster: Cryo"; the French wording has not yet been published) that materializes on the spot and explodes after a delay, dealing one large instance of Cryo area damage.
The key point can be summed up in one sentence: both instances can land critical hits. This is the second time Genshin Impact has broken the rule that "transformation reactions can't crit," after Astroconduction. Your crit rate and crit damage stats stop being wasted on a Swirl trigger, which completely reshuffles artifact priorities on Anemo carries.
A single cluster, but one you feed
Only one cluster can exist in a given area at any one time: no use hoping to stack three around a boss. However, every new Anemodescruction triggered nearby feeds the cluster already in place. It grows, changes tier, and its final explosion hits harder over a wider radius. Pushed far enough, it detonates before its timer runs out instead of waiting.
The consequence for team building is immediate: this system doesn't reward the single big hit, it rewards application frequency. An off-field Cryo applicator that ticks every second will be worth more than a spectacular burst at 400% attack. That's exactly the opposite of the reflex inherited from Vaporize teams.
The Radiance state
Triggering the reaction places nearby characters in a Radiance: Anemodescruction state, a direct transposition of the Radiance: Astroconduction introduced in 6.7. This state does nothing by itself. It serves as an activation condition for effects grafted onto the kits of certain characters already in the game — and that's where 7.0 becomes interesting for older accounts rather than new ones.
Two stellar pivots, one of them free
The lock on the astral system hasn't changed: without a stellar pivot among the four party members, a Cryo Swirl remains a Cryo Swirl, with no cluster and no Radiance. Version 7.0 offers two of them.
- Odette, a 5-star Cryo one-handed sword user, ballerina and Fatui assassin. Her elemental skill summons a dancing double that deals continuous Cryo area damage. HoYoverse presented her as converting both Superconduct into Astroconduction and Cryo Swirl into Anemodescruction: she is the only announced character able to switch between both astral reactions on her own.
- The Cryo Traveler, who regains their seventh element in Snezhnaya. The special program was explicit on this point: they can trigger all astral reactions when in the party. For the first time since the system was introduced, access is no longer gated behind a pull.
In concrete terms, this means a beginner account can test the full mechanic on August 12 without spending anything, and then decide with full knowledge whether to invest in Odette during phase 1 (from August 12 to September 1).
Unlocking the Cryo Traveler and their free 5-star sword on day one
According to beta data, the process is noticeably lighter than for Pyro in Natlan, which required several quest chapters: it would reportedly be enough to reach the Tsaritsa's Statue of The Seven in Snezhnaya and interact with it. No narrative prerequisites, no reputation tier.
Right after that, the Chapter VII Archon Quest, "The Merciless Eternal Winter," would hand out a free 5-star sword exclusive to the Traveler, the Exaiphanes Blade (French wording not published at the time of writing). Beta figures give it 608 base attack at level 90 and a crit rate secondary stat, with a passive that restores 3 elemental energy points and increases attack by 16% for 8 seconds after hitting an opponent, once every 5 seconds, including off-field.
The real curiosity lies elsewhere: this sword reportedly wouldn't refine with duplicates, but instead by unlocking Snezhnaya's Statues of The Seven. In other words, exploring the map becomes direct weapon progression. If this information is confirmed, the opening weekend routine is already mapped out: waypoints, statues, then content.
The characters in your vault that gain an effect
As in 6.7, HoYoverse grafts Radiance-conditioned effects onto already released characters. Community reports from the 7.0 beta cite four names. These values are not official until the patch notes are published.
| Character | Effect noted in beta |
|---|---|
| Yumemizuki Mizuki | Can directly deal Anemodescruction damage; her bonus hit would go from 550% to 600% of Elemental Mastery while in the Radiance state. Her Constellation 6 would grant the whole team 10% crit rate and 20% crit damage on Anemodescruction. |
| Sandrone | Part of her damage would be converted into Anemodescruction damage, and she would increase the reaction's base damage for the team. |
| Qiqi and Diona | Would increase Cryo Swirl and Anemodescruction damage for the whole team. |
The message is clear: Mizuki, long filed under "comfort support," becomes a serious contender for the main trigger role again. And Qiqi as well as Diona, two 4-stars that many accounts own without playing, gain a reason to exist outside of survival support.
Three team skeletons to prepare
Nothing is testable before August 12, but the logic of the reaction already dictates its backbone: a stellar pivot, regular Cryo application, an Anemo carry to trigger it, a buffer.
- Premium version: Odette (pivot and Cryo carrier) + Yumemizuki Mizuki (Anemo trigger and Radiance) + Kaedehara Kazuha or Faruzan (grouping and Anemo damage bonus) + a Cryo support like Escoffier or Shenhe.
- Free version: Cryo Traveler (pivot) + Sucrose (Anemo trigger with high Elemental Mastery) + Diona or Layla (off-field Cryo application and shield) + Faruzan if you have her, otherwise a second Anemo unit. No 5-star required.
- Exploration version: Cryo Traveler + any Anemo unit. The goal here isn't damage but the jump, more on that below.
One pitfall is already emerging: overloading the team with Anemo. Two Anemo carriers competing for the aura risk consuming the Cryo faster than your applicators can lay it down, and running the cluster empty. One trigger, one applicator, that's the starting ratio.
Elemental Mastery: the stat that becomes king again
This is the most important difference from Astroconduction, and the one that will cost hours to those who don't anticipate it. Astroconduction derives from Superconduct and didn't particularly reward Elemental Mastery. Anemodescruction derives from Swirl, the transformation reaction that has historically scaled with Elemental Mastery — and the 600% Mastery ratio noted on Mizuki points in that direction.
Practical translation, to be done right now:
- Stop discarding your Elemental Mastery artifact pieces as main stat, whether Sands or Circlet. They're about to become viable again.
- The free and farmable 4-piece Instructor set grants 120 Elemental Mastery points to the whole team after triggering a reaction: a credible stopgap for a budget Sucrose.
- The Viridescent Venerer set remains the reference gear for any Anemo carry, but it's still unknown whether its Swirl damage bonus applies to Anemodescruction damage. Wait for community tests on August 12 before sacrificing Condensed Resin on it.
In exploration, the reaction acts as a springboard
HoYoverse confirmed a use outside of combat, and it's far from anecdotal in a snowy, vertical region: after the cluster explodes, nearby characters can perform a high jump. Where Astroconduction unlocks interactions with certain environmental objects, Anemodescruction acts as a springboard.
Combined with the Graie's Eye, Snezhnaya's exploration tool that protects against the cold, hails trains, and generates ice structures, this shapes a movement loop specific to the region. For chest hunters, keeping a Cryo Traveler + Anemo duo in the exploration team will probably be more profitable than any damage composition.
What's left to do before Wednesday
Three tasks, in this order. First, level up a neglected Anemo carry: a level 80 Sucrose with an 8-level skill talent will do the job, whatever pivot you end up using. Next, pull the Elemental Mastery artifacts you'd set aside back out of storage, and check that your off-field Cryo applicator is leveled — Diona and Layla are tiny investments for an immediate payoff.
Finally, keep a cool head about pulling. Odette shares phase 1 with Arlecchino, and the Cryo Traveler will let you judge the mechanic firsthand before deciding. This is the first time a major Genshin Impact reaction can be tested for free on its release day: might as well take advantage of it before opening your wallet.
