Epic Games has officially confirmed the follow-up: Chapter 7 Season 4 will be called Override and will launch on Thursday, August 20, 2026. The current season, Wild Harvest, therefore ends on August 19, closed out by update 42.00.

Since the announcement, articles have been piling up presenting a theme and a list of collaborations as a done deal. They aren't. Let's sort things out, because the gap between what Epic has said and what data miners are reporting is considerable this time.

What Epic has actually confirmed

The list is short, and that's precisely the problem:

• The name of the season: Override.
• The release date: Thursday, August 20, 2026.
• The tagline: "Break the Rules, Change the Game".

That's it. Epic has not officially confirmed either the theme or a single collaboration. Everything else, as we write this, comes from data mining or interpretation of a promotional visual.

A word about the name, by the way: "Override" is the English label. Epic systematically translates season names in its French client — the current season is indeed called Collecte effrénée in French, not "Wild Harvest". The English name for Override hasn't changed in this regard, but be wary of articles that push a definitive alternate name ahead of time; it will appear in the in-game news feed at launch.

What's just a leak

Data mining reports converge on a "Gaming Legends" theme, meaning a season devoted to major video game franchises. The franchises cited by data miners are numerous: Mega Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tetris, Pac-Man, Persona 5, Crash Bandicoot, and Kingdom Hearts. A Gummi Ship from Kingdom Hearts is also mentioned, playable in Battle Royale as well as in Rocket Racing modes.

Two elements lend credibility to this angle: the tagline "change the game", which fits well with a meta season about video games, and the glitch effects present in the promotional visuals.

But credible isn't confirmed. Fortnite seasons have already seen collaborations announced by data miners disappear before launch, or slip from one season to the next. Until Epic has published something official, treat this list as a solid hypothesis, not a lineup.

What you need to wrap up before August 19

This is the actionable part, and it's urgent: you have six days left.

1. Finish your Battle Pass. It's obvious, but it's also what gets missed most often: levels not reached can't be recovered after the switch.
2. Wrap up anything tied to the spirits. The spirit mechanic is the core of Wild Harvest and will disappear along with it. Mastery rewards, in particular, close for good on the 19th.
3. Grab John Wick's dog mascot if you haven't already; that window also closes on the 19th.
4. Spend down your Gold Bars. They don't carry over to the new season. Any unspent balance on the evening of the 19th is lost.

A scheduling tip: don't cut it close to the evening of the 19th. Transition day is traditionally chaotic, between server congestion and early maintenance. Treat Monday the 17th as your real deadline and keep the last two days as a buffer.

The Unstable event on August 15

Between the two comes an event not to be missed: the Unstable narrative moment, scheduled for August 15. The accompanying Power Hours boost the spawn rate of mythic spirits and improve loot.

Mechanically speaking, it's the best slot of the week for anything related to spirits. If you're behind on that front, this Saturday is when you should play, not the 18th.

How long will Override last?

Epic hasn't announced an end date. The usual pace places a season between ten and twelve weeks, which would put Override's conclusion somewhere between late October and mid-November. Again, this is an extrapolation based on previous seasons, not an official announcement.

Should you buy the current season's Battle Pass?

The question is worth asking seriously with six days left, and the answer depends on your current level.

If you're past the halfway mark, buying it remains worthwhile: the levels you've earned unlock immediately, and you'll recoup a good chunk of the V-Bucks invested. If you're starting from very low, though, six days generally isn't enough to make a pass pay off—better to wait for Override's pass, which you'll have ten weeks to complete at a leisurely pace.

What to watch for before next Thursday

Three moments will deliver the real information:

• August 15, with the Unstable event, which will set the narrative tone for the transition.
• August 19, with the 42.00 update, which closes out Wrecked and technically introduces Season 4 content.
• August 20, at launch, when the in-game news feed will finally publish the official English labels—season name, weapons, locations, and cosmetics.

Until then, the only sensible thing to do is finish what's expiring. Collaborations, confirmed or not, will still be there next week; your gold bars and Mastery tiers won't.

Why the season name is worth paying attention to

One last point, often overlooked but with real practical consequences. Epic translates its season names, and the gap between the English announcement and the publication of the localized label creates the same confusion every time for about a week.
