AION 2: the game will indeed be translated into French, but without dubbing — the proof is on the Steam page

In brief

AION 2 will be translated into French, as confirmed on the game's official Steam page. But be warned: the interface, menus, and subtitles will be in French, not the characters' voices. Dialogue and cutscenes will be in English, Japanese, or Korean depending on your region.

If you're waiting for AION 2 for its worldwide launch, the answer to the question that every French-speaking player has been asking has been public for months, and it comes down to a single line on the game's Steam page: French is indeed among the supported languages, but it doesn't appear among the voiced languages. So you'll play with an interface, menus, quest dialogue, and subtitles in French, while hearing the characters speak in another language.

This is neither a leak nor a forum guess: the information is displayed on the official store page of NC's MMORPG, in a block that almost nobody reads all the way through. It matches the publisher's announcement from April 21, 2026, which detailed the language options for the global service.

Here's how to check this for yourself on any Steam page, what a text-only localization changes in a game as talkative as an MMORPG, and what the already fully translated Founder's Pack store reveals about the care put into the French version.

Ten supported languages, only four with voice acting

AION 2's Steam page lists the following languages: English*, French, German, Spanish - Spain, Japanese*, Portuguese - Brazil, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Korean*, Traditional Chinese*. Below this list is a single-line legend: "*languages with full audio support".

It all comes down to the asterisks. Isolating them splits the list into two clear groups:

  • With full voice acting: English, Japanese, Korean, and Traditional Chinese.
  • Translated, but without voice acting: French, German, Spanish from Spain, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese.

French belongs to the second group, with no possible ambiguity: it has no asterisk attached, and the legend leaves no room for interpretation. Since NC is both the developer and publisher of the game, this is indeed the studio's own statement on its own store page.

The asterisk on a Steam page: a habit worth keeping for all your purchases

This method will come up again for other games. When a publisher lists a title's languages on Steam, it distinguishes between text and audio. When the page takes the form of a simple list, as here, the distinction is conveyed solely through an asterisk, explained by the legend placed right below.

The practical takeaway comes down to three points. A language with an asterisk is voiced. A language without an asterisk is translated in text only. A language absent from the list is not supported. A missing asterisk is never a layout accident, since the legend only exists to explain the ones appearing on the same line.

What a text-only localization actually changes in-game

In a few-hour action game, the lack of voice acting is barely noticeable. In an MMORPG, it shapes the way you play. AION 2 is an online role-playing game with a strong narrative component, whose world NC describes as thirty-six times larger than that of the first AION.

  • Cutscenes and dialogue scenes will be voiced in a language other than your own: the plot will be conveyed through reading French subtitles.
  • You'll need to read while playing, which is more demanding during group or combat phases.
  • Following the story with half an ear during long grinding sessions will no longer be possible.
  • On the other hand, everything needed to actually play, meaning the interface, skills, items, descriptions, and stat windows, will indeed be in French.

In other words: AION 2 will be fully understandable and playable in French. Only the voices will remain foreign.

French was already part of the foundation announced on April 21

The information isn't based solely on the store page. In an official announcement published on April 21, 2026 on its Steam news feed, NC stated that AION 2 would be accessible worldwide and would maintain servers across four regions, namely North America, South America, Europe and Japan, with in-game language options covering English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Chinese, both simplified and traditional.

French was therefore part of the foundation from the very announcement of the global service, not a list added after the fact. An official French-language site is indeed live at aion2.plaync.com, under the title "AION 2 | The skies await you."

A useful clarification for those who have been following the game since Korea: the Korean version currently in service does not include a French client. French arrives with the global service, not before.

The Founder Packs have already delivered the official French terminology

There is a second, even more telling piece of evidence: the Founder Packs page is already fully localized. It already displays official French wording today, the very terms that will need to be remembered to find one's way around in-game and to seek help on the forums.

Among the terms already published in French by NC:

  • Atréia, the name of the game's world.
  • Pack de fondateur standard, Pack de fondateur deluxe and Pack de fondateur ultime, the three tiers on offer.
  • The Coffre de ravitaillement d'expédition de Daeva.
  • The title "Daeva avant-gardiste".
  • The armor appearance "Daeva d'éveil".
  • The weapon "Soleil de l'éternité".
  • "Aria du clair de lune".
  • The companion "Dragon noir".
  • The "Ailes du soleil ardent".

These terms say a lot about the approach. "Coffre de ravitaillement d'expédition de Daeva" or "Soleil de l'éternité" don't look like translations run through a machine: they are crafted phrasings that preserve the series' own vocabulary, with the term Daeva coming from the first AION, and that aim for literary flair rather than a word-for-word copy. Remember them as they are: a homemade translation, even a prettier one, would keep you from finding the item in-game.

Prices are also specific to the eurozone: €21.25 for the standard Founder Pack, €42.49 for the deluxe, and €84.99 for the ultimate, before discount, compared to $24.99, $49.99 and $99.99 in the United States. We have already dedicated an article to choosing between these tiers, so we won't go over that again here.

What NC still hasn't confirmed

Several pieces of information are circulating without coming from the publisher. To be clear about what is confirmed:

  • The exact date of the free launch. Early access is set for September 30, 2026, and the global launch follows five days later, which brings it to October 5. But this literal date does not appear in any NC document we were able to consult: it is deduced.
  • The opening time of early access has not been announced.
  • An AION 2 presence at Opening Night Live on August 25. Sources contradict each other on this point and no NC press release confirms it.
  • The monetization model, notably the absence of loot boxes: the topic is being covered by the press, not by the publisher.

Key dates to remember

AION 2 is a PC-only game, developed and published by NC, powered by Unreal Engine 5, and distributed as free-to-play. Early access opens on September 30, 2026 and remains reserved for holders of a Founder's Pack; the free global launch follows five days later. Until then, the only linguistic certainty can be summed up in one sentence, worth knowing before pulling out your credit card: you will read AION 2 in French, but you won't hear it spoken.

Would you agree to play AION 2 without French voice dubbing if the rest of the interface is translated?

Frequently asked questions

Will AION 2 have French voice dubbing?
No. Dialogue and cutscenes will be in English, Japanese, or Korean depending on your region. The interface, menus, and subtitles will be in French, but not the voices.
How can I check this on the Steam page?
On AION 2's store page, look for the list of supported languages. Those marked with an asterisk have full voice dubbing. French doesn't have one, meaning text translation only.
Can I still play entirely in French despite this?
Yes, absolutely. The interface, skills, items, descriptions, and stats will be in French. You'll understand and play the game 100% in French; only the characters' voices will remain in a foreign language.
When does the French translation of AION 2 arrive?
Early access starts on September 30, 2026 for Founder's Pack holders. The free global launch follows five days later, on October 5, 2026. The French translation will be available from the start.
Are the Founder's Packs already in French?
Yes, the Founder's Packs page is fully localized. You'll already find the official French terminology there: "Daeva", "Coffre de ravitaillement d'expédition", "Soleil de l'éternité", etc.

Key takeaways

  • French does appear on Steam, but without the asterisk that indicates full voice dubbing: text translation only.
  • In an MMORPG as text-heavy as AION 2, reading subtitles while playing changes how you approach narrative and group sequences.
  • The Steam page isn't the only proof: NC had already announced this on April 21, 2026, and the Founder's Packs are fully localized.
  • The interface, items, skills, and all stats will be 100% in French. Only the voices will remain in a foreign language.
  • Ten languages supported in total, but only four with full voice dubbing: English, Japanese, Korean, and Traditional Chinese.
