Fortnite: the Unstable event on August 15 and the final stretch before the end of the Runners season

One week. That's what's left before Chapter 7 Season 3, the Runners season, closes its doors. In the meantime, Epic is hosting Unstable, a story moment broadcast only once, on Saturday, August 15 at 8:00 p.m. Paris time.

Two deadlines, neither one recoverable. Here's the exact schedule and the list of things you need to have wrapped up before the switch.

Unstable: Saturday, August 15, 8:00 p.m. in Paris, a single broadcast

The event takes place at the Zero Point Stabilizer. It's not an old-school global server show but a story moment, played directly in Battle Royale, solo or in a group.

The announced schedule, in Paris time:

• 7:30 p.m. — damage starts being reduced around the Zero Point Stabilizer;
• 7:55 p.m. — damage is fully disabled in the area;
• 8:00 p.m. — Unstable begins;
• 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. — first window with a boosted spawn rate for Mythic Sprites (Mythic Sprite Hour);
• 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. overnight — second window of the same type.

The crucial point: there is no rebroadcast. Unlike some past events that were replayed several times during the day to cover different time zones, Unstable only airs once. If you're not logged in Saturday at 8:00 p.m., you'll be watching it on YouTube.

Practical advice proven at every Fortnite event: launch the game twenty to thirty minutes beforehand. Queues get saturated in the final fifteen minutes, and the playlist fills up well before the announced time.

The two Mythic Sprite windows: Saturday's real bonus

The two two-hour slots surrounding the event don't hand out automatic rewards. They increase the odds of getting the rarest Sprites, particularly those tied to the Zero Point.

For a season entirely built around collecting Sprites, this is the best opportunity of the end of the season. If you're still hunting a specific Sprite to complete your collection, block off the 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. slot: the second window, in the dead of the European night, isn't going to work for most of us here.

The battle pass: what's lost, for good

The Runners battle pass closes with the season. The rule hasn't changed in years, but it still catches people out with every switch: unclaimed tiers do not carry over. They disappear.

The pass is sold for 800 V-Bucks — included for Fortnite Crew subscribers — and grants access to more than a hundred rewards: eight brand-new skins, including a John Wick, a Vanguard Slone, and a Mecha-Sprite, remixes of historic characters like PJ and Slone, as well as additional weapons, emotes, gliders, and styles.

To do before the evening of the 19th: open the battle pass tab and manually claim everything that's unlocked but not yet collected. It's the most common oversight, and it also applies to V-Bucks handed out along the way as you progress.

The secondary deadlines falling at the same time

Several pieces of content from the season expire at the same time, and we've covered them over the past few weeks:

• John Wick's dog, an unlockable mascot, is available until the end of the season;
• Spirit Mastery and its spirit tied to Point Zero, to be finished before the 19th;
• Season quests still open: they feed into the last Battle Pass tiers, and they're the fastest way to catch up on levels this week.

A general note: the weekly quests released last Thursday are the last of the season. There won't be a new batch before the switchover.

The exact schedule for the switchover

The Runners season started on June 6, 2026. Its closure is spread across two dates depending on the reports: August 19 for the effective end of activities, with Chapter 7 Season 4 taking over on Thursday, August 20. In practice, consider that everything happens during the evening of Wednesday the 19th: that's the safety margin that will keep you from finding your progress locked out when you log in Thursday morning.

Historically, major season switchovers happen around 3:00 PM Paris time, preceded by several hours of maintenance. Expect downtime on the morning of the 20th.

What we know about the next season

Season 4 has been announced under the name Override, with a thematic focus turned toward video games themselves. It's still thin on details, and Epic rarely shows its cards more than a few days before a switchover: most of the reveals will come between the Unstable event and the launch.

This week's checklist, in order

• Today: check on unclaimed Battle Pass tiers, and finish any season quests still open;
• Saturday, August 15, 7:30 PM: log in before the event, don't cut it close to 7:59 PM;
• Saturday, 8 PM to 10 PM: take advantage of the Mythic Spirits window;
• Wednesday the 19th in the evening: your last chance to claim everything, including mascots and mastery rewards;
