Fortnite OG: the concept and its evolution in 2026

Launched in October 2023 with the temporary return of Chapter 1 for its fifth anniversary, Fortnite OG has become a fully-fledged permanent mode since late 2024. The concept is simple: relive each season of Chapter 1 (2017-2019) in chronological order, with the map, weapons, and mechanics of the time, but rendered through the Unreal Engine 5.5 and its modernized visuals.

After running through Season 7 (winter theme and X-4 Stormwing planes) then Season 8 (X marks the spot, pirate cannons and the Volcano), the mode has now reached this famous Season 9, the last season before Season X and the game's first ever "blackout."

Release date and duration of OG Season 9

According to leaks relayed by fortnite.gg and fnbr.co, OG Season 9 will kick off on Tuesday, July 22, 2026, with an update scheduled for early morning (French time). Like previous OG seasons, its duration will be shortened compared to the original: expect around six weeks, running until early September 2026.

The map: Neo Tilted and the great return of the future

Chapter 1's map will once again be shaken up. After the volcano eruption that devastated Tilted Towers and Retail Row at the end of Season 8, these two POIs rise again in a new, ultra-modern form. Here are the key points of interest to know:

• Neo Tilted: a neon, futuristic version of Tilted Towers, with katakana signage and cyberpunk vibes
• Mega Mall: the replacement for Retail Row, a huge multi-level shopping center with an underground parking lot
• Sky Platforms: floating platforms connected by zip lines above the map
• Pressure Plant: the geothermal plant built inside the old volcano crater
• Peely Grind and Mecha Team Leader: new secondary landmarks

The anti-gravity ramps and slipstreams (air currents) that crisscrossed the entire map in Season 9 should also make a comeback, offering fast travel across the island.

Weapons and items: the 2019 loot pool revisited

The OG loot pool stays true to the spirit of May 2019, with a few balance adjustments to avoid memorably broken items (looking at you, Guided Missile). The iconic additions expected:

Doggus vs Cattus: the duel of the giant robots

The original Season 9's live event remains one of the most memorable in the game's history. In July 2019, a massive robot piloted by the residents of Pressure Plant rose up against Cattus, the giant monster that escaped the volcano at the end of Season 8. This epic battle — dubbed The Final Showdown — will be faithfully recreated in 2026.

• Doggus (the mech): weekly quests to help build it inside Pressure Plant
• Cattus: the kraken/sea monster will emerge from the volcano at mid-season

The OG Season 9 Battle Pass will remain at 950 V-Bucks, the historic Chapter 1 price. It will contain the 100 reward tiers from the 2019 version, with the legendary skins that long-time players are dying to see back in their locker.
