The Mythic Golden Fish has been present in Fortnite for several seasons, but it remains one of the hardest items to get. In Chapter 7 Season 3, it's still part of the loot pool, and has the potential to turn the tide of a fight in a split second. However, tracking one down is often no small feat, especially if you don't have a predefined strategy.

How to get the Mythic Golden Fish

In theory, the Mythic Golden Fish can be picked up from any classic loot source, whether on the ground or in chests. In practice, the odds of finding one are so low that random looting isn't really advisable. Here are three noticeably more effective methods:

• Golden fishing spots: These are fishing spots that stand out with a golden glow at usable bodies of water on the map. To try your luck, find a fishing rod in a nearby barrel and cast your line into one of these spots. This method offers the best effort-to-odds ratio for getting this type of item.
• Rare/blue chests: Look on the map for points of interest whose name glows blue. These areas offer better loot potential and spawn rare chests more frequently. Blue chests increase the chances of getting mythic items.
• Vaults: These often contain high-rarity loot. To access them, you need a golden keycard, which you can generally get by eliminating a season boss.

Even when targeting these three sources, unfortunately, getting the Mythic Golden Fish largely comes down to luck. The best way to boost your chances is to explore as much loot as possible in every match. The more chests you open and the more lines you cast, the higher your chances of it dropping.

The Mythic Golden Fish, okay, but what's it for?

This item is thrown and doesn't work like a regular weapon, but more like a grenade in terms of use. If your target is hit, they are instantly eliminated, regardless of their health at the moment of impact. It's a true one-shot, with no prior conditions.

In terms of damage, it's the most powerful item you can find in the game. Nothing else in your arsenal can compete with it. Its only drawback lies in the fact that it's a projectile with a physical trajectory, not a bullet. Throw accuracy is therefore crucial, especially when you're facing an opponent who's shooting at you at the same time.

Tips for using it effectively

Avoid wasting it on a distant target that's hard to gauge. The Mythic Golden Fish is much more effective in close-range or mid-range combat, when you have time to adjust your throw. If possible, practice on stationary targets or in a creative mode before jumping into a real fight with this item.

Save it for critical moments: against an enemy with a full shield late in the match, or against a player who has gained height and would be difficult to deal with otherwise. Using this item on an opponent already down to 10 HP would truly be a waste...
