In brief

Chapter 7 Season 3 introduces six brand-new mythics distributed among three mobile bosses and two mini-events, alongside the new Boss Sprites that replace medallions. Between Voidblade's Surgical Burst Rifle, Skeletor's Telescope Reacher, Wolfe's Automatic Maven, the Baba Yaga 9mm, and the Duck Hunt Slugger, explosive loadouts are back.

Chapter 7 Season 3 of Fortnite, dubbed Wreckreation, has overhauled the economy of exotic items. The traditional medallions have given way to Boss Sprites, while six new mythic weapons are circulating across the map, carried by three mobile bosses or locked behind mini-events.

As a reminder, our previous guides already covered the locations of the three bosses — Voidblade, Skeletor, and Wolfe. Here, we're focusing on the weapons, passive effects, and loadout combinations.

How Mythics and Sprites work this season

Two nuances before you head out hunting. First, bosses no longer spawn in a fixed location: they patrol wide zones, which makes the loot race more unpredictable. Second, each defeated boss doesn't automatically guarantee the Mythic — a dice roll decides between the Mythic and Legendary version of its signature weapon.

Boss Sprites fill the role of the old medallions: passive companions that unlock a permanent bonus as long as you keep them on you. They fit into the season's new overall Sprite system.

Good to know: Sprites can be extracted or upgraded over the course of matches. The Boss Sprite is the one that levels up the fastest, since a single boss kill is enough to unlock a significant tier.

Surgical Burst Rifle (Voidblade)

The first major Mythic of the season is the boss version of the Surgical Burst Rifle, dropped by Voidblade, the sword-wielding boss teleporting around Heatwave Harbor and its surroundings.

  • Type: three-round burst assault rifle, Mythic version
  • Special feature: very tight accuracy while aiming, reduced damage falloff compared to other ARs
  • Drop: Voidblade, with a risk of getting the Legendary version instead

Strategy against Voidblade

Voidblade is lethal in melee: her sword wipes out a full health bar in two swings. The fight is best played at medium range, anticipating her frequent jumps — aim high consistently, as she leaps as soon as she feels pressured.

Keep healing items in reserve: she deals continuous damage while you're exposed. The precision rifle remains the best answer to open her up before she closes the distance, then switch to a shotgun if the fight forces you into melee range.

Best combination

It pairs very well with a shotgun (Striker or Maven) to cover all ranges. Add the Limitless Seven Sliders and you get a versatile kit perfect for endgame fights in open areas.

Reacher Extending Focus Shotgun (Skeletor)

Skeletor drops the Mythic version of the Reacher Extending Focus Shotgun. It's the most original weapon of the season: the barrel dynamically extends to hit at medium range with decent damage, something extremely rare for a shotgun.

  • Type: telescopic shotgun, increased accuracy with barrel extension
  • Special feature: versatile at short/medium range, formidable for precise shots
  • Drop: Skeletor, with a risk of getting the Legendary version

Strategy against Skeletor

Skeletor isn't the hardest boss to hit, but he has a shield regeneration power that dangerously drags out fights. He waves his scepter to restore his shield — not his HP — which forces you to maintain constant pressure and favor weapons with large magazines.

Stay at range: his shotgun hits very hard up close, and his regeneration ability means that any pause in your fire gives him back a full round of shields.

The ideal combo against him is an assault rifle with a large magazine for continuous pressure, then switching to a shotgun to finish him off as soon as the shield breaks. Bring at least one or two Chug Splashes as backup: the fight often drags on.

Best combination

The Reacher pairs very well with the Surgical Burst Rifle to control all ranges. Its ability to hit at mid-range also makes it a relevant choice in duos/squads, to support a teammate rushing in without needing to switch weapons.

Maven Auto Shotgun (Wolfe)

Wolfe drops the Maven Auto Shotgun in Mythic version. It's probably the most aggressive shotgun of the season: high fire rate, solid per-pellet damage, very punishing at close range.

  • Type: automatic shotgun, high fire rate
  • Special feature: constant close-range pressure, very high DPS on a stationary target
  • Drop: Wolfe, with a risk of getting the Legendary version

Strategy against Wolfe

Wolfe is the most mobile boss of the trio thanks to his teleportation. He also uses a howl that briefly reveals your position to nearby players — watch out for third parties drawn in by the noise. He frequently teleports to your flanks or right behind you, which makes his positioning predictable for anyone paying attention.

The fight is best played at short-to-medium range with a fast-firing shotgun or an SMG to capitalize on his stationary windows right after teleporting.

Best combination

The Mythic Maven excels in an aggressive box-fight loadout, paired with a classic assault rifle and especially the Limitless Seven Sliders. A true close-range spam kit.

9mm Baba Yaga (John Wick's Dog)

The John Wick nod returns this season with the 9mm Baba Yaga mythic pistol, the boss version of the Lancehead pistol. Unlike the previous Mythics, this one isn't obtained by killing a boss, but by saving John Wick's dog.

  • Type: Mythic semi-automatic pistol, large magazine
  • Special feature: fast fire rate, solid body damage, special reload effect at close range (magazine toss dealing additional damage)
  • Location: the dog's cage at Sinister Strip (southernmost building) or in the Battlewoods sewers depending on the match

How to get it

Head to the relevant building right from the start of the match — the race there is fierce, as many players target the same spot. Eliminate the guards surrounding the cage, interact to free the animal, then pet it to trigger the drop. Careful: the dice roll can give you a simple Legendary Lancehead pistol instead, but the Mythic version remains reasonably common.

Tip: landing solo or with a duo avoids the chaotic rush. Full squads often tear each other apart in front of the cage, leaving an opening for whoever lands two rooftops over and arrives after the carnage.

Best combination

An excellent sidearm for any loadout. It compensates for a shotgun's slow reload with a quick response in case of a rush. Combine it with the Reacher or the Striker for a versatile kit.

Mythic Striker Pump Shotgun (Duck Race)

The most fun Mythic to grab is probably the Mythic Striker Pump Shotgun, obtained via the Duck Race event that takes place north of Heatwave Harbor.

  • Type: classic pump shotgun, one powerful shot per pump
  • Special feature: potential one-shot damage on weakened targets, angle management essential
  • Location: bridge north of Heatwave Harbor

How to trigger the race

Activate the switch located on a bridge north of the POI. A fleet of ducks then begins to move along, successively hitting a series of crates along the course. The third and final crate is the one with the best chance of dropping the Mythic Striker — the previous ones mostly deliver secondary loot.

Follow the race closely without exposing yourself, kill any opponent who might have the same idea as you, and position yourself within interaction range as soon as the final crate opens. The window to pick up the Mythic is short, so plan your positioning.

Recovery strategy

The main risk remains third parties. Players who hear the race know someone is present — keep an ally on high cover and move as soon as you've grabbed the drop.

Limitless Seven Sliders (Sinister Strip Prison)

The sixth and final Mythic isn't a weapon but a mobility item: the Limitless Seven Sliders. These are boots that trigger an unlimited power slide, with built-in offensive mechanics.

  • Type: Mythic utility item, unlimited mobility
  • Effects: infinite sliding on ground and water, boosted jump during the slide, bullet time effect with reduced ADS spread while sliding
  • Location: prison building in the center of Sinister Strip

How to open the cell

Go down the stairs of the prison building, located facing the POI's large Sprite hologram. The cell containing the Sliders is locked: you must first disable both security gates — the north one and the south one of the prison — before the cell will open. Once both consoles are shut down, go back down to the lower level; the cell gives way and the Sliders spawn inside.

The puzzle takes about a minute solo. Do it early in the match while Sinister Strip is still hot and playable, rather than in a dead zone where other squads will jump you while you're pressing the second button.

Best combination

The Limitless Seven Sliders change the game in any aggressive loadout. Paired with Wolfe's Maven, you get a pure rush kit. They also work great with a sniper: the bullet time allows for precise snap-shots mid-slide.

Boss Sprite: the medallion equivalent

This season, the Boss Sprite takes over the role of past seasons' medallions. It's a passive Sprite companion that boosts both your maximum HP and your maximum shield. At its maximum level (tier 5), the bonus climbs to around +25 HP and +25 shield extra — giving you a significant buffer at the start of fights.

It drops from each of the three bosses: Voidblade, Skeletor, and Wolfe. Each defeated boss therefore rewards you with three things: their Mythic weapon, a healing Chug Jug, and a Boss Sprite. Unlike the Mythic, the Sprite is guaranteed on every kill.

How to maximize it

The Boss Sprite levels up via end-of-match extraction and via Sprite objectives. Bringing it to extraction (map markers) makes it progress permanently from one match to the next.

Prioritize the Boss Sprite from your very first matches: unlike temporary Mythics, the Sprite's health bonus carries through the rest of the season.

Recommended loadout combinations

To maximize your chances of a podium finish with this season's items, here are two setups that work very well.

  • Versatile kit: Surgical Burst Rifle + Reacher Extending Focus Shotgun + 9mm Baba Yaga + Limitless Seven Sliders + Boss Sprite. Good at all ranges, full mobility.
  • Aggressive close-range kit: Maven Auto Shotgun + Mythic Striker + classic SMG + Limitless Seven Sliders + Boss Sprite. For players who rush everything that moves.

Note that carrying two Mythic shotguns is possible but far from optimal solo — long-range fights become impossible to handle. Save this kind of kit for squad modes, where an ally can cover long range.

Going further

Once your Mythics are locked in, several related topics are worth checking out:

  • The Sprite rankings for the Wreckreation season — beyond the Boss Sprite, the Goldfish, Grim, and Striker Sprites unlock useful effects depending on your playstyle.
  • XP-boosted battle pass quests — several objectives involve looting Mythics or defeating bosses, so you might as well chain them together.
  • Exotic chest rotations at Battlewoods and Calamari Canyon — side drops that make the difference in contested endgames.

Happy looting on the island, and watch out for third parties as soon as you pick up a shiny Mythic: nothing draws more attention than a player walking out of a boss room half-beaten up.

What's your favorite mythic to hunt this season?

Frequently asked questions

Why don't bosses stay in the same spots anymore?
This makes hunts less predictable and raises end-game tension: you have to explore wider zones and accept that the mythic is never guaranteed at the usual spot. It's a bet that's constantly reopened.
Is the legendary version of the mythic worth it?
No, clearly not. The difference in damage and accuracy compared to the mythic version is noticeable. Legendaries are the consolation prize when RNG punishes you — drop them as soon as possible.
Which mythic should you prioritize hunting?
It depends on your playstyle: the Surgical Burst Rifle for versatile mid-range, the Reacher for mid-range domination, the Maven for aggressive rushing. The Baba Yaga 9mm and the Slugger are more opportunistic, worth grabbing if you pass through the area.
How do you avoid third parties during the Duck Hunt event?
Land two rooftops away and observe first: while others fight on the bridge, you arrive right as the last crate opens. The chaos creates the opportunity.
Do Boss Sprites stack with other Sprites?
Yes, and that's their main appeal. A Boss Sprite plus a regular Sprite equals powerful cumulative bonuses. The season's economy revolves around this synergy.

Key takeaways

  • Bosses no longer spawn in a fixed spot: they patrol wide zones, making the mythic hunt unpredictable and more competitive.
  • Every boss defeated rolls the dice between mythic and legendary versions — brace for disappointment.
  • Boss Sprites level up faster than other items and replace the old medallion system.
  • The Baba Yaga 9mm and the mythic Slugger are earned through mini-events (dog rescue, Duck Hunt) rather than direct boss drops.
  • Each mythic demands a precise combat strategy: anticipating jumps against Voidblade, constant pressure against Skeletor, post-teleport positioning against Wolfe.
