Final Fantasy XIV: the complete guide to the Yo-kai Watch 2026 event — 17 mascots, 17 weapons, 2 mounts and brand-new furnishings

It's probably the longest collection grind in all of Final Fantasy XIV, and it has just reopened. The "Yo-kai Watch: Catch 'em, Befriend 'em! 2026 Edition" event has been live since Tuesday, August 4th at 10:00 AM.

Watch out for the end date — it deserves a warning. The French Lodestone page announces a close of "Monday, October 10th, 2026 at 4:59 PM (Paris time)" — except October 10th, 2026 falls on a Saturday, and English-language outlets are reporting October 5th instead, which is indeed a Monday. So there's an inconsistency in the localization, and Square Enix notes anyway that "times and dates are subject to change." Don't plan anything for the final week: treat October 5th as your real deadline.

Two months' window sounds comfortable. It isn't: completing the entire content requires 49 Yo-kai medals and 165 Legendary medals, all obtained in small amounts from FATEs. Many players start each edition two weeks late and give up.

This guide gives the exact steps, the real costs, and above all the farming method that cuts down the time spent — plus the 2026 addition that Square Enix tacked on at the end of the chain.

Starting the event: the prerequisites

Only two conditions, and they're light:

• be at least level 15;
• have completed one of the three Envoy quests from the starting cities.

Then head to Ul'dah - Steps of Nald, coordinates X:9.2 Y:9.1, to speak with the down-on-his-luck young man who starts the event quest (A Complete Game Changer).

The quest hands you two essential items: the Yo-kai Watch, the accessory without which nothing works, and a first Yo-kai medal. It also gives you the Yo-kai Medallionnaire, your tracking log, viewable from Main Menu > Quests > Collection.

Yo-kai medals: the first currency

The principle is simple, and hasn't changed since 2016.

You earn Yo-kai medals by completing FATEs with a silver or gold rating, in certain zones, with the Yo-kai Watch equipped. If the watch isn't equipped, nothing drops — that's newcomers' mistake number one.

The eligible zones cover a large part of the world of Eorzea and beyond: La Noscea, Thanalan, the Black Shroud, Coerthas, Dravania, the Abalathia's Spine, Gyr Abania, and Othard. In other words, everything from A Realm Reborn to Stormblood.

The exact cost of the 17 mascots

This is where many guides get it wrong, because the pricing was eased in 2020:

• 1st mascot: 1 medal;
• subsequent mascots: 3 medals each;
• total for all 17: 49 medals.

The exchange is done with Nohi, at the Gold Saucer, coordinates X:5.2 Y:6.9.

The 17 available mascots are: Jibanyan, Komasan, USApyon, Whisper, Shogunyan, Hovernyan, Komajiro, Noko, Octorgone, Kyubi, Robonyan F-Type, Blizzaria, Corniot, Enma Daiō, Ananta Daiō, Zazel, and Damona.

Legendary medals: the real mountain

This is where the event gets demanding. The cosmetic weapons — one per job, styled after its Yo-kai — are bought with Legendary medals, and the acquisition mechanic is different.

To get a Legendary medal to drop, you need to complete a FATE with a silver rating or higher, in a zone specific to the targeted Yo-kai, with the corresponding mascot summoned. A detail that frees up an accessory slot: unlike the regular medals, the Yo-kai Watch does not need to be equipped for Legendary medals.

The cost of the 17 weapons

• 1st weapon: 5 Legendary medals;
• subsequent weapons: 10 Legendary medals each;
• total for all 17: 165 Legendary medals.

Among the official French labels found on the Lodestone: the "Grosse patte du chat vermeil", the "Canne du gardien du temple", the "Oreilles du lièvre lunaire", and the "Pistolame du roi des Yo-kai".

Good news for veterans

Square Enix states it plainly on the official page: "Legendary medals earned in 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2024 remain valid."

If you took part in a previous edition and kept a dormant stash, go check it before starting to farm. Some players discover they're already halfway there.

Mounts and collection rewards

Three long-standing milestones structure progression:

• Whisper-go — earned at 13 mascots;
• Whisper A-go-go — earned at 13 weapons;
• Jibanyan Couch — earned with all 17 weapons, added in the 2020 edition.

An important planning note: the mount milestone is at 13, not 17. If your goal is to walk away with both mounts and nothing else, you save 12 Yo-kai medals and, more importantly, 40 Legendary medals compared to full completion. On that last figure, we're talking about several hours of FATEs.

The 2026 addition: Nohi's furnishings

This is the new addition for this edition, and it specifically rewards the full mascot collection.

Once you've befriended all 17 Yo-kai, Nohi unlocks three tabletop furnishings at her Gold Saucer shop, sold for 5,000 MGP each:

• Wibbly-wobbly Jibanyan;
• Wibbly-wobbly Komasan;
• Wibbly-wobbly USApyon.

An exclusive framer's kit is added to the list as well, also purchasable with MGP. Budget at least 15,000 MGP if you're going for all three furnishings — an amount that adds up quickly at the Gold Saucer, but it's worth keeping in mind before blowing it all on Triple Triad.

Be careful not to mix up the prerequisites: the furnishings require the 17 mascots, not the 17 weapons. This is by far the cheapest part of the event — 49 medals compared to the 165 the weapons demand in their Legendary form.

The efficient farming method

Here's the routine that makes the difference between an event wrapped up in a week and one abandoned come September.

Step 1 — regular medals first

Don't chase Legendary medals until you have the mascots. It's mechanically impossible: you need the mascot summoned to get its Legendary medal to drop. So chain FATEs with the watch equipped until you've unlocked as many companions as possible.

Step 2 — the Outer La Noscea FATE chain

This is the trick the community passes down from edition to edition. In Outer La Noscea, two FATEs chain together in a loop: as soon as one is finished, the other appears immediately (known by their English names Making the Rounds and Full Metal Alchemist). The result: zero downtime between FATEs, unlike zones where you spend your time flying from one point to another waiting for respawns.

Over a farm of several dozen medals, this difference in pace is decisive.

Step 3 — Legendary medals by zone clusters

Each Yo-kai is tied to a specific set of zones. A few examples to illustrate the logic:

• Jibanyan: Central Shroud, Lower La Noscea, Central Thanalan;
• Blizzaria: North Shroud, Outer La Noscea, Middle La Noscea;
• Enma Daiō: the zones of Gyr Abania and Othard.

Best practice is to group your sessions by zone rather than by Yo-kai. Figure out which Yo-kai share the same zone, alternate their mascots while you chain FATEs on site, and you'll avoid crossing Eorzea ten times a night.

Step 4 — play in a group and on a useful job

FATEs are scored by contribution: a mobile ranged DPS or a job with wide AoE maximizes your chances of hitting the gold rating. During the event period, the relevant zones fill up with trains of players doing exactly what you're doing — follow them, it's the best efficiency multiplier available.

Is it worth it?

Let's be honest about one thing: the 2026 event is identical to previous editions as far as weapons go. No weapon has been added for jobs released since the last catalog update: those hoping to see the collection expand will be disappointed.

What's new are the three furnishings and the framer's kit. That's small if you've already collected everything, huge if you're discovering the event for the first time: 17 mascots, 17 cosmetic weapons, and two mounts — it remains one of the biggest seasonal reward pools in the game.

Our recommendation: if you've never done the event, start now and aim first for the 13 mascots (Whisper-go), then all 17 (the 2026 furnishings). The weapons can come after, if you're up for it — 165 Legendary medals is a project, not an evening.
