Final Fantasy XIV: PvP Series 11 ends on September 8, but your rewards remain claimable until the end of Series 12

Square Enix posted a short announcement on the Lodestone on August 27, and it deserves more than a skim read. PvP Series 11 "will draw to a close with the beginning of Patch 7.56 maintenance on Tuesday, September 8". In passing, this is also the date for 7.56 that Square Enix is confirming here, in black and white.

Players' first instinct will be to open their PvP Profile and clear everything out before the 8th. That's largely unnecessary: the announcement specifies that "rewards from Series 11 can only be claimed until the end of Series 12". So you have an entire season ahead of you. There is indeed a deadline on September 8 — but it's not this one.

What 7.56 resets

Two things, and the announcement puts them in a footnote: "At the start of each new Series period, your Series EXP and level will be reset and the available rewards will be replaced."

Translated into practice: the counter goes back to zero and the catalog changes. The official PvP system guide caps the Series level at 30; "any levels gained above 30 will be tracked as extra levels". Any malmstone you haven't reached by September 8 will never unlock: the reward attached to it won't reappear in Series 12. This is where a player stuck at Series level 22 or 27 actually has something to gain by playing this week.

What 7.56 doesn't touch: trophy crystals

The second note in the announcement is good news: "Any trophy crystals earned will be carried over to the new Series." The PvP system guide describes them as a PvP currency, exchangeable for various items with the Crystal Quartermaster, at Wolves' Den Pier (X:4.4 Y:6.1). Nothing obliges you to spend your reserve before the 8th.

The official 7.5 patch notes also added that "some rewards from past PvP Seasons can now be exchanged" for these marks. So a missed item from a past Series isn't automatically lost. However, we haven't seen the current stock list: we won't guess it on your behalf.

Series 11 rewards run until the end of Series 12

This is the crux of the announcement, and the sentence everyone is going to misread. The malmstones you have already unlocked remain claimable well after 7.56, even if you don't set foot in PvP again before then. Square Enix doesn't give an end date for Series 12. For a sense of scale: Series 11 will have run from 7.5 to 7.56, a little over four months.

A word of honesty: on August 10, we reported here that the official French guide contradicted itself on this window, one page saying rewards last until the end of the following series, another saying they lapse as soon as it begins. The English guide has no such wobble: both its "Series Malmstones" and its "Series Rewards" sections read "Series rewards earned can be claimed until the following Series ends", and the August 27 announcement says the same. So nothing forces you to clear your malmstones in a hurry.

The real September 8 deadline: Series 10

Something does indeed disappear on September 8, and the announcement says nothing about it. The official 7.5 update notes stated: "Series 10 rewards can be claimed until the end of Series 11." And Series 11 ends precisely at the start of maintenance on September 8.

If you've left any Series 10 malmstones lying around — the Series that patch 7.5 closed on Tuesday, April 28 — that's your only real urgency, and you have ten days left. The same patch notes give the exact path: main menu, then PvP Profile, then Series Malmstones, then Previous Series. Square Enix already wrote at the time: "Don't delay in obtaining them while they're still available."

Checking your progress in three clicks

For the current Series, the announcement gives the path: "Character" menu, then "PvP Profile", then "Series Malmstones". The screen shows your progress and how much Series EXP you still need to reach a specific malmstone. Thirty seconds is enough to decide whether the remaining ten days are worth the effort, or whether you're already too far from the next one.

What you actually need to do before September 8

1. Clear out Series 10. The "Previous Series" tab of the PvP Profile. This is the only thing that truly expires on the 8th, and it only takes a few clicks.
2. Push through the Series 11 malmstones still within reach. Series EXP resets to zero on the 8th; whatever you haven't reached will be permanently out of reach.
3. Don't rush to claim malmstones already unlocked. They'll be waiting for you until the end of Series 12. Claiming them in a hurry gains you nothing.
4. Don't rush to spend your trophy crystals. They carry over across the Series boundary intact; let them sit if the shop doesn't tempt you today.

If you've never touched PvP, getting in costs one quest. You need a job at level 30 minimum, then the unlock quest for the Wolves' Den corresponding to your Grand Company: with R'ashaht Rhiki at Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (13.1, 12.8) for the Maelstrom, with Vorsaile Heuloix in New Gridania (9.7, 11.1) for the Order of the Twin Adder, or with Swift Ryder in Ul'dah - Steps of Nald (8.4, 8.9) for the Immortal Flames. Aiming for Series level 30 from scratch in ten days isn't realistic; picking up a few malmstones very much is.

Two caveats to keep in mind

The first concerns the calendar: the Rising runs from August 27 at 7:00 a.m. to September 10 at 2:59 p.m. UTC. Patch 7.56 therefore falls right in the middle of the event, which is unrelated to the series switchover — two separate deadlines, not to be confused with one another.

The second is more mundane: September 8 remains an announced date. To date, the publisher has released neither a maintenance window nor patch notes for 7.56. The Lodestone page remains the only reference to keep an eye on — and if the date shifts, the end of Series 11 shifts with it.
