In brief

Beast of Reincarnation features about a dozen collectible swords, each with its own element and unique passive effect. Whether they're starting weapons, found throughout the chapters, or purchased from a merchant, these weapons allow you to adapt to the weaknesses of bosses and Elite enemies. Here's a straightforward guide to each one.

Emma can wield many swords in Beast of Reincarnation, each with its own element and passive effect. Collecting them is well worth the effort: you can swap between them on the fly to counter a boss or Elite enemy's weakness, and most are obtained without much difficulty. Here's where to find them, along with their element and effect.

Sword summary table

Sword Element Passive effect (base level) Where to get it
Purifier No element Reduces stagger taken by 1 for 6s when Emma is hit Starting weapon
Mecalame (Standard) No element +1.05x damage on attack 3 for 5s Starting weapon
Cirrus Sword Impact +1.03x damage for Emma and Koo for 5s Chapter 1, before the Nushi's lair
Mecalame (Light) No element +1.05x damage on attack 2 for 5s Chapter 1, ruined tower near Tailwater
Mecalame (Heavy) Impact +1.05x damage on attack 4 for 5s Chapter 2, after the 1st encounter with Lacerta
Thunderwave Sword Lightning Each hit calls down lightning on nearby enemies (Lightning stack) Chapter 2, dropped by an Elite enemy
Hunter's Sword Poison Poisons the blade (Poison stack) Chapter 3, the Mysterious Golem
Purity No element Restores 5% of damage dealt to Emma as HP for 5s Chapter 3, the Merchant
Bell Sword Impact +1.03x to knockback dealt for 5s (enemies easier to break) Chapter 3, the Merchant
Dawn Sword Fire Each hit unleashes flames (slashing damage + Fire stack) Start of chapter 4

Note

Each sword can then be upgraded to strengthen its effect (increased critical chance, better elemental buildup, enhanced healing or stagger, etc.). Other swords remain to be discovered as the adventure progresses.

How to get each sword

Purifier and Mecalame (Standard) - These are Emma's two starting weapons: you have them from the very beginning of the game.

Cirrus Sword - In Chapter 1, while pursuing Rangifer to its lair, you come across a locked door requiring three keys and a weakened Golem. Talk to it: it will point out the nearby Cirrus Sword and invite you to take it. Impossible to miss.

Mecalame (Light) - Still in Chapter 1, explore the village of Tailwater, to the east of the area. Just west of the village stands a huge ruined tower; at its top, the Mecalame is guarded by an Elite enemy Golem.

Mecalame (Heavy) - After your first encounter with Lacerta in the Reservoir, in Chapter 2, the boss flees through a large hole in the ground. Before heading down, use Emma's hair to reach the fresco located opposite: the Mecalame (Heavy) is there.

Thunderwave Sword - It is dropped by an Elite enemy Golem near the end of Chapter 2. Don't worry, it's impossible to miss: you must defeat it to progress. You'll encounter it shortly after powering the reservoir gate.

Hunter's Sword - In Chapter 3, while pursuing Nue Malefact to its lair, you meet a Mysterious Golem near a camp, after taking the elevator. Talk to it and listen to its story: it will then point out the Hunter's Sword next to it and invite you to take it.

Purity and Bell Sword - Near the end of Chapter 3, before entering the Nushi's lair, you come across a Merchant Golem just before the boss arena (near the "Old Sagami Settlement: Approach" camp). This friendly merchant will sell you these two swords.

Dawn Sword - It is planted in the ground right at the start of Chapter 4, just before you face off against Fanatic Golems. Impossible to miss.

Frequently asked questions

Can you miss a sword while progressing through the story?
No, almost none of them are missable. The Cirrus Sword and the Hunter's Sword are offered on their own via Golems who point them out. The others are either starting weapons or clearly visible along the main path. Only the two swords from the merchant Golem require a voluntary transaction.
What's the point of collecting all the swords?
Each one provides a situational advantage: stagger reduction, damage bonuses, elemental buildup to exploit weaknesses. Switching weapons on the fly against a specific boss or Elite makes all the difference. Plus, they each upgrade individually, making every collection useful in the long run.
Is the Mecalame (Heavy) really obtained after Lacerta?
Yes, right after the first encounter with Lacerta at the Reservoir in chapter 2. Before descending through the hole it digs, use Emma's hair to reach the fresco across the way, where the weapon rests. It's a logical checkpoint that's easy to miss if you don't explore.
Do you have to buy the swords from the merchant Golem, or can they be found elsewhere?
No, Purity and Bell-Sword can only be obtained from the merchant Golem in chapter 3. They're worth the investment: Purity returns 5% of damage dealt as HP, and Bell-Sword boosts knockback to make breaking enemies easier.

Key takeaways

  • Swords are collected across the first four chapters, most of them obtained without major difficulty.
  • Each weapon can be upgraded after acquisition to strengthen its passive effect or elemental damage.
  • The Cirrus Sword and the Hunter's Sword are unlocked by talking to Golems who point them out directly.
  • Two swords can be bought from the merchant Golem just before the Nushi's lair in chapter 3.
  • Elements vary (Lightning, Poison, Fire, Impact) to counter specific enemies or build up status effects.
