The creators of Steins;Gate are back with Seeker Eye, an occult adventure that translates a ghost story into a video game where the fourth wall becomes the very heart of the experience. Slated for this winter on PS5 and Switch, the title plays on unease and player contamination, going well beyond a simple kaidan tale.

MAGES. announced on Thursday, August 27, 覗怪 (Seeker Eye), an occult adventure slated for this winter on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. The one-minute-five teaser opens on a red line: "what science cannot understand." Coming from the veterans of the Science Adventure series (Steins;Gate, Chaos;Child), the phrase amounts to a manifesto.

What follows are kanji cards that almost all sound alike — 視界 (field of vision), 異界 (the other world), 遺骸 (the remains), 支配 (domination) —, overlaid on a pallid walkway, a house with a red roof, a close-up of an eye. The final card reads 視たい？, "do you want to see?" The title 覗怪 is read shikai, like 視界.

The clues converge. The story stems from a homemade ghost tale, 「赤い屋根の家」, published in November 2024 and republished on Thursday as a seventeen-minute reading by Mariko Honda. MAGES. claims that the player who listens to it becomes contaminated in turn: the fourth wall isn't an effect, it's the subject.

A winter release window and a mere teaser in late August: the full presentation shouldn't be long in coming. The game is rated CERO D, and MAGES. has announced neither a localization nor a release outside Japan.
