Aion 2: Korea opens its second server transfer on August 26 and puts housing at the top of its roadmap

In brief

Aion 2 Korea is opening a second server transfer window from August 26 to September 2 with increased capacity, signaling population rebalancing issues that are already visible. Meanwhile, the roadmap places housing as a priority, without any gear progression element — a decision that breaks with usual Korean practices and hints at what the West should expect seven weeks ahead of the September 30 launch.

NC held an update preview broadcast on August 11 for the Korean version of Aion 2. Most of its content dealt with the August 12 patch — the one that reworked healing, with a 40-meter range but 20 to 50% less power. But the broadcast contained two pieces of information that have nothing to do with balancing and are of greater interest to Western players: a second wave of server transfers from August 26 to September 2, and a content roadmap that puts housing as a priority.

Seven weeks before the Western early access launch on September 30, these two points say more about what awaits Europe than any trailer could.

The second server transfer: bigger than the first

NC is opening a second server transfer phase, scheduled from August 26 to September 2, with increased capacity compared to the first phase: more players will be able to migrate simultaneously.

This technical detail is worth pausing on. An expanded second wave means two things, and they aren't contradictory.

First, the first wave wasn't enough. A publisher doesn't open a second window, with raised quotas, if demand was absorbed the first time around. Aion 2's Korean population is therefore redistributing itself more heavily than expected — which is the classic symptom of servers becoming unbalanced a few months after launch.

Second, NC knows how to handle the operation. Raising transfer capacity implies having measured what the first wave cost in infrastructure load. That's rather reassuring seven weeks ahead of a global launch where the five announced server regions will not be locked by region.

This last point is the one to keep in mind on the European side. With unlocked servers, the question of population rebalancing will also arise for us, and probably faster than in Korea: French-speaking players who follow friends to a saturated server will find that out the hard way. The good news is that the transfer mechanism already exists and has been tested twice before our launch.

The content of the August 12 patch beyond healing

The broadcast detailed three additions that French-speaking coverage left aside, preoccupied with the healing overhaul.

  • A transcendence dungeon, "the hidden legacy of Noiran," with four tiers, calibrated between 3,800 and 4,800 difficulty.
  • An expedition, the "infested Deus research facility," between 3,800 and 4,500.
  • A set of Arcanas built around two artifacts — a die and a lantern — with bonuses for punishment, protection, and inflexibility.

A necessary caveat: these names come from readings taken on the Korean version. No official French label exists for this content, and it isn't certain that it will arrive as such in the Western build. We are translating them here for understanding, not as final names.

On the class side, four have been reworked: Gunner, Swordmaster, Cleric, and Chanter. The Gunner gains survivability through its blocking mechanics. And a cap has been placed on healing amplification, limited to 300% — consistent with the healing power reduction enacted on August 12, but this time targeting stat stacking rather than the skills themselves.

Quality-of-life features reveal the real friction points

Three announced adjustments are worth reading, because they reveal in outline what's been annoying Korean players:

  1. Batch synthesis at the wardrobe is being increased to 30 items per batch.
  2. An option to disable automatic pet pickup is being introduced — a month after NC capped how it functioned, on August 5.
  3. Stigma presets are in development.

The third point is the most significant for the West. Stigma presets are the ability to switch from one configuration to another without having to redistribute everything by hand. In a game where players alternate between dungeon, expedition, and Abyss, the absence of such a tool is a constant irritant. The fact that it's still "in development" seven weeks before the global launch means it will probably not be in the October build.

The contribution threshold raised: the end of account carrying

A discreet but consequential change: the group contribution threshold has been raised above 1%, explicitly to prevent carry-style play.

In other words: simply being present in a group will no longer be enough to get your share. Actual participation will be required. This is a classic anti-freeloading measure, and it targets both players being carried by friends and paid boosting services.

For future Western players, this is information worth taking on board now: the five-player dungeons and ten-player raids announced for the global launch will not tolerate passengers.

The roadmap: housing first, navigation next

This is the most interesting announcement from the broadcast, and the least covered.

NC stated that housing is the next major content project, followed by navigation systems. And the studio attached an important clarification to this announcement: neither of these two systems will include any gear progression element.

That sentence is a statement of position. In a contemporary Korean MMORPG, the usual temptation is to attach stat bonuses to housing to make it mandatory — and therefore monetizable. NC is announcing the opposite: content for expression and exploration, with no influence on combat power.

For a Western audience that has spent the past few months wondering about Aion 2's monetization — the $15 subscription, Quna, the player-to-player marketplace — this is a signal that should be credited to the publisher. With the usual caveat: this is a statement of intent made in Korean, on an undated timeline, and there's no guarantee it will survive intact once it crosses over to the West.

What all this means for the September 30 launch

Three takeaways to remember ahead of the Western early access — reserved for Founder's Pack holders, with the free release following on October 5.

Western content will be ahead of ours, not ahead of theirs. The transcendence dungeon and the August 12 expedition will likely arrive in our build; stigma presets will not. The gap has to be assessed project by project, not as a whole.

Rebalancing is not finished. Three Korean patches in one month have touched PvP damage, healing, and four classes. No one, whether in Korea or elsewhere, can say today which class will be strong on September 30.

Server choice will matter. Two transfer waves in a few months on a mature market, with Western servers not locked by region: the risk of ending up on an unbalanced world is real. The consolation is that the mechanism exists — and that it will have been tested twice before our turn comes.

What worries you most about the September 30 Western launch?

Frequently asked questions

Why is NC opening a second transfer wave so quickly?
The first wave wasn't enough to absorb demand, a classic symptom of servers becoming unbalanced after a few months. A second window with increased capacity lets NC correct course before the Western launch.
Will housing be mandatory for progression?
No. NC has explicitly announced that housing will have no stat bonuses — it's expression and exploration content, not gear progression. That's the promise for now.
Will stigma presets be available at the Western launch?
Probably not. NC states they're still in development, and with early access starting September 30, there's little chance they'll be ready. It's a quality-of-life tool that will arrive later.
Will I be stuck on a server because of population mergers?
No, but you risk ending up on an unbalanced world if you arrive after launch. Western servers won't be region-locked, and transfers will be available to fix mistakes — the mechanism will have been tested twice in Korea before your turn.
Can I get carried through a dungeon without really participating?
Not anymore. The contribution threshold has been raised above 1%: you need to actually participate to get your share. This is an anti-freeloading measure that hits paid boosts as well as generous friends.

Key takeaways

  • An expanded second transfer wave indicates the first wasn't enough: Korean servers are already suffering from population imbalances.
  • Housing will arrive without stat bonuses, unlike Korean standards — a stance from NC against forced monetization.
  • Stigma presets are still in development and will likely not make the September 30 Western launch.
  • The group contribution threshold has been raised to kill paid carries: no more free-riding through dungeons.
  • Western servers won't be region-locked, exposing them to the same rebalancing risk as Korea — but with an already proven transfer mechanism.
